Customizing & Enhancing Movement & Melee Styles in ME:A?

One of the best things about ME3:MP was the diversity of movement styles and the different light and heavy melee animations which gave every character a distinctive unique feel or flavor to their gameplay - notable even between different human chars. Returning to singleplayer it's not hard to feel constricted to the same dodge combat roll and handful of static melee anims which make shepard feel like a stock character rather than an extension of ourselves. What I would like to see in ME:A is the option or ability to customize and even upgrade our movement and unarmed fighting styles (e.g. the way we walk, run, dodge, roll, enter cover, block, punch, kick, etc.) which would greatly help to shape the 'feel' of our characters (enhance feeling of self - added emersion) so that you don't get this feeling of detachment as if you were walking in someone else's shoes so to speak. I want to move and fight in my own way, don't you? Wouldn't it be nice if your different player avatar characters felt like different people even down to subtle differences in their movement and combat animations?

Are you quick and nimble like a drell... maybe you could use light melee weapons like the N7 Shadow or Phantom to supplement your powers and side arms or maybe you're a more of a straight up brawler who favors shotgun melee attachments on their vanguards and occasionally heavy melee weapons which would be cool to see. Adepts might for example want to add more points to fitness if it meant they could traverse through walls like the fury. Soldiers might like a lovely pair of jet boots instead of the basic stock combat roll. It would be nice to have more options in your arsenal at your disposal besides guns and biotic/tech powers.

I like the idea but I'd venture to make melee styles tied to class (like the power attack in ME3). Dodge could also be tied to class and possibly armor (heavier armor means harder, slower rolls while light armor is quicker. If they ever go the teleport route I'd like to see Tech/Biotic-based classes use tech/biotics to vanish and reappear).

Run is a bit much though. I think one animation per gender is enough.

With all the love that melee got in ME3 MP I would hope that they just make melee a new weapon slot in ME:A and let us choose between different melee attacks.

As for the dodge/roll you'd need to add more variance between them, as right now the side step is the best one due to the speed it has.

Could we get new class focused on melee fight please? :c

We don't really need a new class for that, just the existing evolutions that boost melee need to not suck like they did in ME3 SP and we could some better melee attacks that we saw in ME3 MP.

Vanguards would fit very well into a melee style.

My kind of thread! In before the "melee belongs in Dragon Age, not Mass Effect" posts. :D

When I play a krogan in MP, I basically spend most of my time making melee attacks. The laugh is kind of infectious.

Not opposed to melee I'm opposed to making it overly effective in order to balance it with ranged options. Melee outside maybe Krogans should be less effective. Not saying less damaging but it shouldn't be more damaging too compensate for lack of range.

I too have this problem, especially as the warlord.

I think some of the movement styles we've seen in the MP should be implemented in ME:A.  However, I think armor system should affect the weight and movement of the character.  So, if you have light armor, you can dash and sprint easier than someone in heavy, bulky armor.

For me it depends on the character. Shepard was a soldier covered in heavy armor regardless of class or player input, it wouldn't have made any sense for him to be flipping around like a ninja.

I would love if we got to choose our animation style for the protagonist. Have a few options like aggressive, strong, elegent, sultry, etc.

I doubt they'd consider doing different animations for our protagonist in the campaign, although it would be kinda cool and it will add to the uniqueness and replayability.

The best I hope is differentiation between races (MP only in this case), classes, and depending on armor type (light, medium, heavy).

As mentioned, light armor should allow you to dodge quite easily, while heavy armor could let you do things like falcon punchs and/or other slow heavy-hitting melee attacks.

Another thing that I always loved was when in ME2 Vasir use her biotics to safely descend to the ground. Man, allow biotics / techs to have this sort of awesomeness.

I wanna be able to do small biotic teleports like the N7 Slayer (and other classes) from the ME3 multiplayer. Going through walls would be kinda OP in the single player, but I guess they could work it around.

I've been a strong supporter of incorporating the various elements of ME3:MP classes into MEA to add more variety to the experience, so I support this idea.

I've always wanted to be a able to do that controlled decent thing that the Asari can do from above as well, it looks so bad ass.

Loving the idea of light and heavy armor effecting your mobility and options in combat in cqc. Faster movement is always a better choice than straight up Damage Reduction unless you can do some insane DPS. Vanguard to me has always felt like the melee class in waiting although all classes could really do with more cqc options.

I've always felt that the Drell martial arts light melee attacks could be a template for a much improved combat system. While it might seem simplistic to have all melee attacks tied to one button/key for melee why not add a combo to the melee button with the left thumbstick/WASD for more control? So e.g. on Xbox;

Tap B = alternating left and right light attacks

Hold B = auto target heavy melee

B + left / right = directed left / right light attacks

hold B + left / right = left / right (roundhouse) kicks

B + Right Bumper = block

Hold B near fallen target (situational) = stomp
