Before I say anything against it, I want to say I understand how Inquisition's dev cycle can be seen by some as a prelude or a hint to ME:A's general performance, since they're developed by the same company, but quit the lame comparisons already.

 

We get multiple threads on a daily basis about "how this from DA:I applies to ME:A" or "can we have this in ME:A because of that in DA:I". I don't believe I'm the only one who couldn't give a flying dung about anything that has to do with DA:I when we're in the Andromeda section. Not everyone here has touched DA:I nor do we know what the hell you're talking about.

 

Who the hell is Krem anyway? How is he/she/it relevant to ME:A in anyway? Yet 1 out of 5 replies in almost every thread will mention DA:I. Here's a hint: if we wanted to talk Inquisition, we'd be in the Dragon Age section.

 

I am sick to death of hearing about DA:I in here.

You hear stuff about ME everyday in DA section as well. That's because both games are from Bioware, somewhat close to each other and tons of people are fan of both series. You will also hear from older BW games from time to time, but since they are less known/popular not so often. I'd say that you should just deal with it ^^

I think it's reasonable that these comparisons exist. That said, all the DA2-ism during ME3's development period got on my nerves at times, so I can appreciate your angle.

I'm not talking about characters but a common base between the two games. They both use the FB3 engine. Also, ME:A devs mentioned they borrowed heavily from the DAI systems technology and last the vast open areas ready for exploration.

Load times suck in DAI. I just bought the new DAI DLC and tried DAIMP for a laugh. Now, I've been playing ME3MP for the past three weeks. God almighty, between the two, its like the Turtle and the Hare in terms of load times.

 

What I now fear is that load times for ME:A will truly suck.

 

Exploration

The angst here is that ME:A will fall prey to the faults of the DAI exploration/open world concepts... with filler quests to fill the massive ME:A game. And exploration, as you know by now, is a focus of the new game.

 

Performance + Plastic Hair

Since DAI uses the FB3 engine and ME:A will do the same, the fear is poor game performance and the plastic barbie hair unless you set the settings to HIGH or ULTRA.

 

You can see why there is DAI vs ME:A comparisons.... you really can't help but compare.

Yeah...that's not gonna happen, pal.

 

The comparisons are there for a reason.  From a technical standpoint, many of the core systems for Dragon Age Inquisition were taken and modified for Mass Effect Andromeda to save on dev time, since both dev teams were inexperienced with the Frostbite 3 engine.  Additionally, both games share similar gameplay elements such as the dialogue wheel, the approval or Paragon/Renegade system, companion customization, and the way how narrative choices play out.

Well, DAI was BW's first game based on Frostbite, MEA will be their second.

Both games focus on open world exploration.

It's not that stupid to speculate about what parts BW will take from DAI and use it for MEA.

 

No matter how people liked DAI as a whole, there are quite some parts of it that need  polish if they are reused in MEA. Best thing BW can do is listen to the player feedback and improve what they have to make MEA a better game.

Considering that DA and ME have become more and more alike with each passing game in their respective series it IS a bit of a worrisome subject. I liked DA way more than ME even though I like the idea of ME more than DA:O, but by ME3, I wasn't sure. DA:2 clearly tried to be more like ME2, and that ended up making me like ME2 more than DA:2. For Inquisition versus ME3, I'm not even sure which one I like more.

While we're at it, lets forbid people from mentioning all other RPGs. Knights of the old republic, Baldur's Gate. Never played them, sick of hearing about them, so stop it.

There's no sense reinventing the wheel. Both games involve, say, a bunch of dialogue so why wouldn't they use DA's dialogue systems again. And DA's face gen is good, so reuse that and hopefully you've got time to make non-horrible hair.

That is not paraphrasing in the slightest and I'd appreciate it if you don't twist my words like that.  If you're going to be a jackass, I'd prefer that my words have nothing to do with yours.

 

It's true that the devs team had no experience with the Frostbite engine and that a good chunk of time was spent on learning how to use it.  Once they did, they passed this knowledge onto the Mass Effect Team and allowed them to use the same core systems that they had to take the time to create.  Now, I'm no game developer, but, if I had to guess, these core systems involve the loading of textures, models, and terrains into the game.  Maybe even saving/loading game files and how damage is calculated.  I don't know the specifics, but you'd have to ask Bioware.

 

The fact is, both teams now know how to use the Frostbite 3 Engine.  If they didn't, Inquisition would have never been released and Andromeda wouldn't look as good as it does.

Actually forums are meant as feedback and suggestion to something not only for "Thank you" letters and reason why everyone goes comparing these two is because devs said that next game of ME will greatly be inspired after DA:I, so not everyone comparing these two hated DA:I, in fact many loved DA:I but they are giving feedback and suggestion of mistakes DA:I had that we don't want in ME:A to repeat! Again not because they or I hated DA:I but because we want of BW to understand what things should be improved and what things were bad and shouldn't be repeated again!

I agree it can be annoying as hell having so many comparisons, but again feedback and suggestions are necessary especially while game is under development so it is important to give devs hints of what we as fans and consumers want in this game and what we don't want! And I sure as hell for start don't want 7 shaved/bald hairstyles in upcoming game and other thing again I don't want or I will throw my speakers trough window is another 'Disney' song that we can't skip and that we are forced to listen.

Also those annoying unskipable dreams from ME3 - I find the idea that some game-dev decided to force me to watch unskipable cut scenes or similar abomination do to his or her "artistic vision" - extremely irritating.

 

The arrogance is quite staggering as well: "No, you will not skip this part, you will play the game the way WE want you to play it."

(no matter how cringe worthy you find the specific part, or if this is your fourth playthrough.)

The conveniently forgot to mention other loading times....such as starting the game......

 

Again, sorry, but my experience with DAI tells me quite a different story....

I agree, entirely, absolutely, no question about it!

 

Long load times are here to stay, with the FB3 engine, unfortunately.  High resolution textures are very big and contribute to load times... and Bio does want to show off the pretties.

Both games are from BioWare. Both games deal with similar "real life" topics. Both games put a huge emphasis on character interaction. Both games involve boning. Comparisons are gonna happen.

Agree, comparisons will happen.  While I can see how it can be annoying, some of us are simply looking at we've liked from previous BW titles, and looking to add what we feel worked from those, for ME:A.  There's a balance between BW's "artisitic integrity" and the paying customer's desires for games they'll spend hours playing. 

 

If want something, we have to ask.  If it is a comparison with something we feel worked well, I think we should go ahead and share that.
