So it was clear from the trailer that politcs was going to be a huge part of the Tresspasser DLC yey!  And Arl Teagan was going to be a rival.  Boo.

I was a bit worried about this...

But lo and behold they presented it awesomely, as BioWare did.  Teagan did not turn into a mustache twirling villain, for the most part.  But he, and Orlais, had real legitimate concerns and made fair point after fair point about the role of the Inquisition in the affairs of Southern Thedas.  They actually made sense.  Given who they were the background of their nations, and everythign else.  It was realstic, because of who they were.

One of the biggest draws of the game even before the game came out was the fact that you were a brand new organization.  A private organization not beholden to anyone.  No prince or Arl.  No church or holy mother.  No government.  You were an entirely private entity with no official support and sanction.  For the first time in thousands of years Thedas had an organization 'outside the law'  Not since the early days of the Grey Wardens has this been true.

But this organization is exactly why the two opposing governments felt so threatened.  Because the Inquisition didn't need them.  Because in some ways the Inquisition has more power then them in some ways.  So they do what any government does, they try and tax it, regulate it, or ban it.  I mean this may sound like a diss but I am actually really proud from BioWare, it was a favorite plot point...though not properly exploited...in Inquisition...and it was given a lot of chance to air in the game.

And given how seperate the church is from the governments in the game at least the Inquisition can maintain some measure of autonomy going forward.
