You mean if you were female the only straight male was goofy Alistair. Zev was Bi-Sexual I take it. Males had Morrigan, because Leliana was Bi-sexual right?

OMG! Alistair was the best. Don't offend him. Morrigan was also awesome, yeah she may have ran away from me, which suked. But why do people like Solas? Leliana in DAO was meh at the most. I have never done a Zevran romance, so I don't know.

CHOICES. THAT. MATTER.

Actually matter, not just make believe.

A world that is shaped or at least heavily affected by your choices as you make them. and the consequences can actually be experienced in gameplay as they happen, one at a time.

Enough with War Table missions or side quests that have ZERO relevance, either for your PC or the world. PLEASE BW!

1. The Inquisitor as a playable character. Sole protagonist, dual protagonist, "cameo" in which we get to choose the dialogue options, whatever. If we're dealing with Solas in the next game, I'd want the Inquisitor to face him and the player to be able to choose how to interact with him.

1b. (If the Inquisitor is a playable character that gets more than 5 minutes of screen time) Customizable arm prosthetics. With the Inquisitor as a protagonist, it'd be nice if our "prosthetic" choices may influence the actual combat/gameplay too. I.E., want a mechanical arm? Nice, but it's going to give you a ton of issues in combat and not do as much damage. Want to try something better? Either get a lyrium arm or use blood magic. But know that the lyrium arm is going to affect your entire health (and possibly your behavior, too), while using blood magic is going to make you look really bad in front of your allies. (...Obviously these are just my ideas, but I'd love to see something similar in the game, where our choices for the "gear" to use are going to influence the gameplay as well).

2. Long hair for both males and females. Especially for Qunari D: In DA:I, I liked the fact that all hairs were unisex, and I hope this happens in DA4, too.

3. Customizable body shapes. Yep, I know, it's difficult to make and it would probably mean less armor options (not to mention that long hairs would be even more difficult to do). But one can dream ;___;

4. Dialogue options: a compromise between the Inquisitor and Hawke, maybe? I liked the Inquisitor's dialogue wheel more than Hawke's, but I think that it could be tweaked a bit so that our characters can show a little more emotion. I could see it being done with something like 4-5 choices: diplomatic/neutral, snarky, straight to the point (without being rude) and downright aggressive. In this way, we could get to choose whether we want an "emotional" type or response or a more neutral one for every dialogue, without necessarily being over-emotional (like Hawke) or  way too polite (like the Inquisitor).

5. More cutscenes, less Skyrim-style dialogues! Even if it's just a zoom on the character's face like in DA:O, it'd still be better than having to stare at our characters standing and talking while doing nothing D:

6. I'd love to see shapeshifters coming back :D and also blood magic and healing magic.

7. Quests: I honestly found the war table missions interesting... if only it wasn't for the fact that it was just a bunch of text to read with little to no action at all. Fetching quests, on the other side, were extremely boring. Maybe we could switch the two things? Give us interesting quests with an actual plot in which our choices matter for the "active game" and leave the boring fetching stuff for "war table" type missions? I still can't get over the fact that I could have killed the entire clan Lavellan and there would have been no cutscene at all for it. Not even a comment from my Inquisitor. And I honestly think that something as emotional as that would have deserved some more space dedicated to it D:

8. Speaking of which... I'd like to see more personal involvement from our character. Which doesn't necessarily means an "origin" thing, but still... something in which our character can be seen as a *person* and not only as a hero/killing machine. Hawke definitely succeeded at that (...although he was just a bit *too* unlucky as a character D: ). The Warden, too, both with his Origin story, but also with the whole Dark Ritual/Ultimate Sacrifice thing (...alright, I still think that some more weight should have been given to a Cousland defeating Howe, but whatever). The Inquisitor got Trespasser, which was awesome... but that, and the LI parts, were about the only moments in which we got to see him/her as a "person" with emotions and weaknesses. I still think that bringing the Inquisitor back as a character would be an awesome chance to show off more of his/her personality, emotions and weaknesses, but even if that's not the case and we get a whole new character ( ;___; )... I'd like to see more attention put on his/her feelings and not just on whatever their "mission" is.

*dons a set of tier 5 titan-bone armor*

No romances. Seriously, they should consider this. I've often said that a good romance can add greatly to a story, but it seems to me that more and more, they've become a disconnected feature. I used to get passionate about such stuff, too, but not anymore. The only romances I'm interested now are those that are relevant to the story. That's where they're meaningful, but in any other case, I'd rather they spend the resources for something else. If removing romances frees resources, and they use those to add depth (and cutscenes) to conversations about topics important to the story, I'd consider those resources better allocated than now.

All right, here goes.

Now that the old gen is over and done with and no adjustments have to be made in order to accommodate it, there are no excuses for these things to not be in the game:

- Day / night cycle
- Better animation
- Hair physics (DA2 had this, btw)
- cinematic dialogue

These things would be welcome:

- Black Emporium available day one, as a part of the base game (if available but only as paid DLC I will personally hunt down the people responsible)
- different body types, not just one model for every human male regardless of age, occupation or affinity for pizza (origins did this previously)
- the option to save and reuse faces in the Cc
- No more pointless fetch quests
- background specific quests to better flesh out the main character
- side quests tying into the main narrative

Minrathous

Minrathous done great, with 2-4 large subzones filled with sidequests and areas to explore.

...

Amen!  And all they need to do to achieve this is study Novigrad in Witcher 3: a real, sprawling, living city - full of sailors, merchants, priests, urchins, whores, jades, soldiers, fanatics, bandits, etc.

I liked the war table as a concept - it gave a strategic feel to the game and underlined the idea that we were at the head of a large continent-wide organization.  Which is why I doubt they'll have something like that in DA4, even if you chose to preserve the Inquisition.  Be that as it may, what I would have appreciated with the war table is the ability to use your assets more widely.

There's a stray baron to punish in Orlais?  Send in the Bull and his Chargers, and I mean literally: once selected you are the Bull and go through a small mission on the map with your band.  In other words I would like to have the ability to play one of the companions besides the main protag - just like those small interludes with Ciri in W3.

I refer to W3 a lot I know but it is such a well done game.  I believe there's no shame in borrowing the best ideas out there.

Other than that less companions but better ones - meaning more development so more screen time.  And here's an idea:  BW can write the character - the sex, race, background and voice would be set - but we get to chose how they look like - just like with Hawke in DAI.  That would go a long way into making each game unique.

Exploration is fun but it should be relevant to the progression of the main story.  If you wish to allow the players to discover all those well crafted zones then make sure you pace your main quest line accordingly - no more you can complete Adamant when half the map hasn't been visited yet.

Like someone mentioned it's essential the choices we make have a direct, visible impact in the game world.

If the BW people feel compelled to develop DA4 for consoles first then at least do so intelligently so the port to PC is transparent.  And please!  Do away with the infantile color coded control buttons and anachronistic interface menus that look like they're coming out of Star Trek.  That's precisely the kind of detestable consolitis I abhor.

More freedom in tailoring your character.  Think Skyrim where you could choose whatever skill you wanted and get better if you practiced.  Granted here the lore limits the permutations possible but still, it's something worth investigating.

The horse in DAI was useless - if the zones are to be more compact in DA4 I suggest dispensing with it altogether.

More options for the wardrobe.  In DAI the pyjamas were used everywhere in Skyhold whereas they should have been reserved for your bedroom and the cut-scenes with you lover.  I'd like a designated outfit for home, for the city, for formal occasions, for the outdoors - so whenever you go from one type of scene to another your outfit changes with it.

I quite liked the crafting in DAI - but everyone could it.  There was no cost associated with it.  The only limitations were the shcematics and getting Dagna to make runes.  We should have a skill tree for that - just like in DAO - and have ourselves or a companion specializes in it.

Speaking of crafting - there should be shops that sell mats - like in Val-Royaux in Trespasser.  Gathering is nice during the exploration phase of the1st playthrough but after that it's tedious and reeks of MMO.  Oh and sliders - such simple things sliders...  So we don't have to click 300 times to get enough elfroot to brew potions...

Oh and one last thing.  Make it easily moddable!  That is essential if you wish to insure longevity to your game.  Once again think of Skyrim - 5 years down the road and its gaming community remains thriving; in fact it's powerful enough to make Steam's Boss back down when he tried to monetize mods.

I want to know what you think DA4 NEEDS TO HAVE so that you feel fully satisfied with the game. It doesn't have to be just one this and they don't have to be big.

Fully satisfied?  It needs to have a good story and be reasonably enjoyable to play so that I don't get sick to death of the combat long before the end of the game.  Getting sick to death of the endless unavoidable combat is pretty much what eventually ruins these games for me.  Because of the party mechanics they also have to deal with this unfortunate situation where the leveling is dull and shallow but ALSO you have to do SO DANG MUCH OF IT because you have 10+ characters you have to fiddle around with.  So you have to mess around a LOT with a system that is NOT VERY INTERESTING.  That, and when you've played the game through once you've seen every possible character build in action, so there's VERY little reason to play again as another class/build.  That's a recipe for soul-killing amounts of boredom in my mind.

I know people love customizing their companions, but if I could have anything I wanted gameplay-wise at this point, I'd probably go for giving the companions their own leveling schema that doesn't spoil potential PC builds.  I'd also like to see some more build variety.  The absurdly limited number of combat modes (FIVE) in this series is really tiresome.

As always I want to see more gameplay that doesn't revolve around combat.  The exploration is nice but there's no skill/investment/learning involved (although the search mechanic is quite cool, I want them to keep that for sure).

I want more story/gameplay integration rather than explore zones where you just do the exploring and story zones where you just do the storying and never the twain shall meet.  I'd really like to have them come up with ways to get more of the INTERESTING stuff that happens ONSCREEN somehow instead of just appearing in text blurbs and codex entries!  Modern/scifi games actually have an advantage here because they have radio or similar so you can get voiced reports/datalogs where your voice actors can really sell the story for you.  They have a system where this type of thing can happen (with the ability to have dialogs that don't become cut scenes) they just need to take more advantage of it.

In particular they need to pay a lot more attention to how they introduce things.  Stuff needs DEVELOPMENT.  People need MOTIVATIONS.  There needs to be TIMING and PACING.  DA:I had WAY too much game for the amount of story but it could have been fixed so easily by just DEVELOPING some things a bit more.  Making 3/4 of the game "optional" is only a bonus if that optional stuff is pointless **** that nobody wants to do, and the reward is maybe 1 more perk that nobody cares about and a piece of "unique" gear that isn't remotely as good as what you've already crafted.

I wouldn't say that Skyrim is a good example, but at least it's an example of a game where the gameplay is so compelling (even if it really does 99% consist of picking things up and transporting them to a store/storage area) that I can install a mod that cuts the "main story" completely out and still play the game for hours on end.

Having some sort of sneakypants "I kill the boss and the minions run off" mechanic or being able to gather up an army of wandering animals and send THEM to attack that fortified bandit camp would have been both hilarious and so much more fun.

That's really the sort of thing I'd like to see, both more of and better of.

Actually I like Alistair and Morrigan more than I like Zev or Leliana. I have one Cousland Queen and one Elf who became Morrigan's common law husband. I didn't do any of the other romances in DAO. Those two offered the most content.

Solas is all about romancing an ancient elven god. He is not the best pick for a long term relationship unless the person is a glutton for punishment. You need to be honest, and Solas is free to lie or withhold information. (Not a relationship of equals)

I did that romance just to torture my stupid Dalish Elf. That won't be the final Inquisitor. My final Inquisitor married reliable Cullen. I just wanted to see a wedding scene.

Protagonist:

Inquisitor: My preferred option (though I go back and forth), my elf disbanded the Inquisition so she could be hand on in stopping Solas (her love interest) and be there to pull him back from the brink if possible. So if not the protagonist they NEED to be highly involved.

New Protagonist: Wouldn't mind this either, I want them to be an agent of the Inquisition/Inquisition Underground (if you disbanded). Let me explore the hierarchy in Tevinter as well, from slave to magister's kid.

Origins:

I would like origins back if it's a new protagonist. I want the how and why I became an agent, I want to explore my family and life. Like I said I want to see what life is like in Tevinter, I want to be able to play as a slave elf or a magister's kid with and without magic (see how they treat those without). I would love to have Dorian be like Duncan in this sense to recruit you, because well more Dorian XD

I would also rather these origins be less like Origins and more like DA 2, in the way that it's not like you never seen your family/friends again due to some catastrophe or another but have it be you can go back home and see them (frequently) and grow with them still nearby.

Customization:

I liked how deep Inquisition's could be with the grid thing but please bring back all hair/beard options from past games and add so many better ones. And for the love of the Maker make my beards and stubble separate again.

Story:

Spies. That's what I want especially after Inquisition which was everyone knew you right away and was very overpowering, awesome but overpowering. But Trespasser made it clear this was a game of spies and I want to be one for the Inquisition.

My mask to the world is my origin. I am just an elf slave you don't see, I am the Magister's frivolous kid, but then I slip away and become an agent trying to stop the world from ending. And if you're the Inquisitor go under cover, Tevinter won't know your face unless someone finds out *gasp*

I want the PC to give a freaking inspiring speech at the end of the game that makes you feel all "YESSS THIS IS IT!" like in ME1/2/3 and DA2 before the final battles/end run. Kinda sucks how in Inquisition how you're supposed to be this leader of an organization but never say anything to motivate anyone really. (I don't count addressing the Grey Wardens since someone just died).

I just completed the Trespasser DLC. I want the developers to know I adore Dragon Age Origins. Of all the role playing games I've ever played, that is the one I really got into. It's my favorite ever. I was disappointed by DAII. DA:I was somewhere in between for me. DA:I only became really interesting at the end, with the Trespasser DLC. I think I am driven by the story in games. What was missing from Dragon Age II and DA:I were the twists in the stories and the hard decisions. Origins had a lot of these for me which made it interesting. This also gave it replay value where I replayed it to see how making different choices would affect the world. Simply put Dragon Age II was boring for me. DA:I seemed a little similar in that the story was very linear and I didn't feel like I had much effect on the world, one way or the other. I love this series, and I want to see it grow. Please bring back the choices and the twists of Origins. And thank you for all your hard work!! All of the other improvements were spot on <3

I can see why they did what they did for the dialogue, I really liked being able to switch between the diplomatic and the more aggressive options without the latter feeling jarring and out of character. You're right that they probably need to fine-tune the amount of emotion shown, though, since I think this seems to be a common complaint. (I personally was fine with it, since I tend to play diplomatic characters anyway).

Re Skyrim, have you played it in first person view? The dialogue scenes are awesome in first person! I really wish DA could do that, to be honest. Zooming in on the character's face a la DAO would be the minimum I'd want though.

And yes, I would love to play the Inquisitor as the main protagonist, or part of a dual protagonist approach. Especially after Trespasser. It just makes sense to see the Inquisitor again, though probably no longer as Inquisitor in DA4. I'm looking forward to seeing how my character develops in DA4, especially after all the s*** that happened in Trespasser.

All I want is a finished game. You know, like there used to be before the internet let companies release half finishes boxes of crap for their audiences to pay for and beta test for them.

-not a buggy mess from the start

-no day one patch

-no day one DLC.

-no plot DLC  of any kind. Ever. Period.

-no multiplayer

-Story is completely 100%  finished in the main game. (looking at you with extreme rage Trespasser) I shouldn't have to buy the end of the game separately. Either give me a full proper sequel or nothing.

I know I wont get any of these things, which is why next time around I wont pre-order, I wont buy the game at all until nearly a year after its out and I can get the ACTUAL finished product with the game of the year edition that will cost the same, or less then the game cost when it was new and half finished.

That mages become powerful again. Restoring the old magic schools would be truly awesome for me. Let mages become glass cannons again, not just weird-useless battle-control "freaks".

Apart from that... my second wish is diplomacy returning as some kind of skill. The way DA2 and Inquisition deal with this was... very disappointing.

And in a more positive streak, I would love if they keep the awesome work they made in Inquistion with environments, but reducing the hubs to four or three, but much more populated and alive. Just imagine... the cinematic style from the previous games within the rich world of Inquisition, and none of the filler content. That would be freakin' awesome.

Also, I appreciated the effort to bring back tactical-camera, but the result was... well. Pretty bad. If they could adapt the controls as they were in Origins and DA2 for DA4 in pc, I would be a happy fan ^_^

1. At least one big city, ideally Minrathous (I'm not sure about spelling). Bigger than Kirkwall and more lively. I was really dissapointed with the Winter Palace and Val Royeaux. I mean, seriously? One of the most beautiful city in Thedas and the only thing we see is a MARKET?!

2. Less "I need you to solve my mental problems" companions, please.

3. More social quests. Basically the Citadel DLC with less fan service and killing. Maybe a wedding... A side quest where the game would slow down for a few moments.

Ditch the open world thing
More story focused
Add finishing moves like Origins
Add more skills
Healing magic
Able to carry more potions
Better dragon battles
Better villain
Race selection stays
No more mage templar crap!
Desire demons need to return. Can downplay the sex appeal, but they should return.
Dwarf romance option...long overdue
Female qunari companion. ..long overdue
Better loot (crafting made 80% of the loot worthless in Inquisition )
Origin style story for each race (a 20 minute or so intro works)
Less human focused plot! Would like to see more dwarf, qunari and how about finally showing the Fex.

no open world-boredom, like chores, simple fetch quests,

yes to good graphics and animations and effects like inquisition, interesting story and characters

more rmance options for straight male main character,

the inquisitor as main character

that'd be all, just let bioware be creative

leliana as companion and romance option, no doubt

Quick preface:  This thread is very long and I haven't read most of it.  I also know and accept that I am not an original thinker.  Given those two points, I'm sure most of the things on my list have already been said.  Regardless, here's what would make DA4 amazing for me in no particular order:

  • A return to DA2 style tactics.  The Preferred/Enabled/Disabled settings on companion tactics just doesn't cut it.  Their AI is not good enough to use their abilities intelligently.  I'd rather they let me tell them the circumstances under which to use each of their abilities.
  • No more random elemental resistances.  I get fire elementals being immune to fire and undead being immune to ice (that's a pretty standard RPG stabple) etc., but why are random humans impervious to damage from various elements?  This is not only puzzling, it disproportionately affects mages more than other class in the game.  At least in DA2 we could still open the inventory in combat and equip an appropriate staff.  In DAI the only choice is to run away, change weapons, and come back.  Or reload the last quick/auto save.  I can deal with it, but it's. . . irritating.
  • If it's going to open world or pseudo open world, make the world feel more alive.  A day/night cycle, dynamic weather, more NPCs behaving more naturally, may an actual city or two.  Inevitable comparison incoming:  Look at the world of The Witcher 3 for an example of what I'm talking about.
  • If you're going to include some kind of points system, like Power, then make it mean something.  When I finish the game I usually have somewhere around 300 Power Points and nothing to spend them on.  An over abundance of points makes them devoid of all value.  I never have to worry about not having enough to do everything, and once I've unlocked all the areas on the map there's nothing left to spend them on.  So why are they in the game at all?  It seems like an arbitrary way of (very slightly) slowing player progression from one area to the next.  I don't like that.  If I want to enter a high level area before I'm "ready," then let me.  I'll deal with it.
  • Either fix or remove the tactical camera.  It's kind of pathetic as is.  The only thing I ever use it for is to issue "move to point" commands to ranged characters.  I would rather not have to use it at all.
  • For the PC version, make a UI that was designed for the PC.  By which I mean a keyboard and mouse, not a PC with a console controller plugged in.  I don't expect this one to happen since console parity seems to be hard requirement for any AAA game these days, but this is a wish list right?  A man can dream.
  • Let us hotkey more than 8 abilities and create additional hotkey bars on the screen.
  • If there are to be specializations at all, make them more unique.  Maybe add race specific specializations, like Keeper for Dalish mages for example.
  • Speaking of races, please keep race selection in the game.  Try to do a little better with race specific dialogue.  I know it's hard to keep track of so many options, but it's really jarring when my Dalish elf mage suddenly doesn't know anything about elven gods and has to rely on an NPC for exposition.  Or when an elf NPC calls my elf character "flat ear," a slur for humans.

I thought I had more, but now I'm drawing a blank, so I guess that's end of list.

All I need for DA4 to make me happy is:

1) An attractive gay/bi male KAS romanceable companion and/or an attractive gay/bi male brooding/anti-hero romanceable companion. If they can manage both in the same game I'd probably have a brain aneurysm. I'm just tired of the guy I like always being the one I can't have. Real life romance is bad enough! Let me have a little wish fulfillment in my games :P

2) The crafting system to return with even more options for customizing the look/colors of your gear. I also wouldn't mind seeing more clothing otpions that show a little skin. Some cleavage baring options for the ladies and some bicep showcasing options for the guys would rock!

3) Character customization to be at least equally robust as DAI but preferably with more options, including body customization.

4) A really great and really meaty story. Less of the step and fetch and more main story as well as compelling sidequests/sidestories.

5) Less filler DLC and more story DLC.

1. World where the **** you do actually matters

While the environments in Inquisition are large and beautiful, they are very static and lifeless and don't have much of interesting stuff to do. Only exception pretty much being Crestwood where you can see some actual changes. Also, the actual choices the game offers are mostly just cosmetic. No matter who ends up ruling over Orlais, nothing really changes. You can also be a lazy Inquisitor who ignores the additional missions and fails to recruit pretty much anyone without any consequences.

2. Better side quests

Inquisition is full of non-engaging fetch quests which have no memorable NPCs and no different outcomes. Since the main quest is short, these quests right here are what make most of the game's content. Many of the War table missions sounded very interesting if we could actually do something like them as actual gameplay. I'd happily trade 50 hours of fetching to have 10 hours of that.

3. Cinematic camera in conversations

I detest the non-cinematic camera we had in Inquisition. It made the conversations feel less personal, less immersive and made it harder for me to care about what was being said and who was saying it. I don't remember any of the NPCs outside the main quest / inner circle while in previous DAs even very minor characters managed to stick with me. Good testament of this was Jana. My first character encouraged her to join the Grey Wardens which caused her to meet an unfortunate end during a main quest. However, I failed to connect her to my earlier adventures and had absolutely no clue who this character was when she was shown in the cut-scene. I only learned about this through these forums. If I had actually shared a cinematic conversation with her in Crestwood, I'm certain I would have remembered her and thus gotten the full effect of my actions.

4. Better combat / AI

If they have really decided to ditch the tactics for good, then I'd appreciate if the tactical camera and AI had some improvements. Like, could my ranged characters actually realize that they are ranged and try to keep their distance? Also, I'd happily get rid of the annoying 8 ability slot limit.

5. Diverse customization and roleplaying options

Pretty self-explanatory.

6. Quality over quantity

This is pretty much where it boils down to. I'd rather have 20 compelling missions than 100 pointless ones. I'd rather have 5 rich and dynamic environments than 20 lifeless ones. And so on...

1. Focus on city maps. Perhaps some outside areas to explore as well, but please, no more of these gigantic pointless maps such as the Hinterlands and the Esmeral graves.

2. If multiple races return make it matter. I felt absolutely no reason to play as qunari or dwarf. It brings almost nothing to the story.

3. Side quest with actual stories. No one cares about fetching things for people we don't know or care about.

4. More direct conflicts. Enough with outcast groups causing trouble. If there is a struggle, I want to see an all out war, not some skirmish with little relevance to the big scope of things.

5. An actual option to verbally beatdown a companion during conversation. Why are companions the ones with a final say in every discussion?

6. More then 8 ability slots.

7. Give more story relevance to romances. Apart from Solas, romances in Inquisition added little to nothing to the overall story.

8. Friendship and rivalry. I don't want to be utterly agreeable in order to keep companions around.

9. Playable origin, or at least, the ability to meet characters from my protagonist background. The Inquisitor was too much of a blank slate, and as such, a hard character to relate to.
