The DA series has a theme of the next protag being from the country the previous protag was in, examples Hawke-Fereldan and Inquisitor Free Marches. DAI while covered two countries the bulk of the game was in Orlais but with the next game in Tevinter that opens of a chance to play as a hero in there home country again like back in Origins. So I am curious to see the stance on where we want our new hero to be born. Orlais a outsider in Tevinter or a homeland hero from Tevinter?
Pros for Oralis
-it allows more of a outsider feel to the culture so while we the player learn more about Tevinter we are roleplaying a character who knows just as much as us so it wont feel awkward not knowing traditions or culture you should know.
-Representative for Orlais in the DA series will grow. Outside Leli who isnt full Orlesian we never had a real french hero even Viv while living in the culture was a Marcher.
- Similar to hawke the hero could provide dialogue about the breach and how the rifts effected there life providing a unique RP experience.
- The hero could be captured and sold into slavery, I know alot of folks want a former slave hero but a hero born into slavery makes less sense because there combat skills wont be on par to combat qunari let alone solas regradless of any secret training you headcanon them, a future hero with at least past experience that ends up in slavery as a guard or arena fighter makes sense.
Cons
-Accent, finding the perfect voice actor would not be easy to deal with a french protag the whole game. Which is the biggest con.
-Orlesians may be the least liked people and cultures of thedas(so far), even though tevinter leans towards evil to the outside Orlais is annoying to many.
Tevinter Pros
-A hero to reform and bring good name to tevinter
-chance to play as a mage noble and non mage humans can now be the lower class
-Playing a darker hero RP wise would seem alot easier giving the history of the country if the player picks that route
-Voice would to still be English based off the npcs and companions so finding a voice actor would be easier and we wont have to worry about being a marcher or fereldan to speak in a english accent.
-Dialogue options will hopefully appear at moments when we should know certain parts of our current culture, history is one thing but current lifestyles should be known if that is recognized that will be a huge plus.
Cons
-Qunari origin would be questionable but still workable.
-While i would put this as a pro bioware track record with this is not all that good but elves should be treated worse then all three former games especially if they are slaves and non mages those factors should make your experience less pleasant, so until proven this can be a pro im adding it as a con because I doubt it will happen.
Feel free to add any pros and cons as well. Also feel free to add other countries you would like your hero to be from it is not limit to these two I just focus on the one that tradition follows and the home country of the next game possibly. My personal stance is each race should be from a different location - Elves can be from the Dales if Dalish or slaves in Tevinter if city slaves is picked this time, Dwarves Tevinter trader as well or Kal-sharok to shake things up, Qunari- Not tevinter because I am sure they will be killed before they would be anybody slaves the hatred is to strong so Rivanni or Seheron seems more likely, and Humans if mage Tevinter noble no where else, if non mage either Tevinter still as a gladiator slave or a neighboring country like Antiva or Rivanni. If each race also comes from a different place with a playable origin the replay value of the game increases.
