Please Read:

I am a huge fan of Mass Effect and was not as upset as others about Mass Effect 3's ending. My disappointment was how it ended Shepherd's story and left nothing to expand upon. I created my forum account just to write this and wanted to know what people's thoughts are on this idea. I'd love to hear feedback from other fans of the franchise or even developers. I hope somebody reads the whole thing as I know this is lengthy lol. Anyways I wrote this for fun.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's my story If I wrote Mass Effect Andromeda:

The events of Andromeda actually begin shortly after the discovery of the Prothean ruins on Mars in 2148 CE. In the data cache they find a large amount of data and technologies that caused technology to jump forward. Through years of research different concepts were decoded and made a reality through gradual understanding of such advanced technology.  One concept discovered was one the that the Protheans had finished and tried, but was labeled as a failure.  This concept was to escape the Reapers by leaving the galaxy. The Protheans were trying to travel to the Andromeda Galaxy. Time was short and there was no way they could reach their destination in time by means of mass effect technology. They needed to travel by wormhole. The humans did not understand what was meant by escaping the reapers or even what the reapers were, but the idea of traveling to different galaxies intrigued them and peaked their curiosity.

[Space Science, just for an idea but not crucial to the story]

They found that wormholes were very similar in structure to that of a black hole. Black holes fueled by dark matter. Instead of traveling distance creating a hole in space that in a way brings the galaxies closer together. A good visual of this would be the length of an 8' rope. The rope will always remain 8'. If you were able to bring the ends together they would be closer, yet the rope itself would still remain 8'. In the same way the wormhole bends space to where the Andromeda galaxy is very close and they could travel there in seconds rather than years.

[End Space Science]

[Story From the Milky way continued]

It was unknown why the project failed the Protheans all they knew was that their team disappeared, but the science still was worth trying out for humanity. The Alliance researched the technology for years alone, but made leaps forward when peace with council races were made and their participation was welcomed on the project. Through the events of the Mass Effect trilogy and the unknown threat of the Reapers developed an urgency to finish the project. The council formed a small team called ARKCON, a Pathfinder Initiative to pioneer the way into the Andromeda Galaxy. Time was short and they needed to test the technology now. The ARCON team got together on the first wormhole spaceship to embark on their journey. They powered up the dark matter cores and opened the window to the Andromeda galaxy, but when the ship touched the portal there was a massive explosion and a bright light. The ARCON team was gone. Time went on and the Reapers had finally arrived. No contact had came from the ARCON team. Unknown whether or not the team survived the journey the council had to consider them to be dead and the project a dead end. Their last hope was with Shepherd uniting the galaxy and stopping the Reapers himself.

[Story from the ARCON team]

After passing through the Portal there was a blinding light and then an explosion. The entire ship shook as sparks flew. When it passed they were all still alive but the ship was heavily damaged. Long range communications were out and the galaxy nav was down. They could not make any contact. They needed to find more materials to fix the ship, find a safe planet to inhabit and return to the Milky Way to begin preparations for a large migration across galaxies. Upon exploring their first planet they find clues to the whereabouts of the original Prothean team. The weird thing was that the clue seemed just a few years old.

The general game plot is the ARCON team trying to find where the Prothean team ended up and what happened to them, as well as finding a way to fix their ship and return home.  Along the way they find the Prothean team and find out that traveling by wormhole not only travels distance, but in bending space you travel through time as well (Which is why the clue was only a few years old and why the Prothean team is still alive thousands of years later from human perspective). Together they discover the remains of an ancient civilization that once stopped the Reapers in the Andromeda galaxy. Blueprints on weapons that proved to be very effective in destroying Reapers. If they defeated the Reapers, why are they all gone? A subspecies had evolved and wiped the civilization out. The old civilization had technology, but the new one had numbers, and their numbers were too great for the ancients to destroy. (This new specie is the one you and your team fight while exploring Andromeda.)

ARCON and the Prothean team find an egg in stasis in one of the ancient labs. They believe this egg is what the new specie came from. They take the egg and eventually fix the ship and head home to the milky way galaxy.

[Here is the part I'm having trouble with. Time travel problems]

ARCON and the Prothean team travel through the wormhole back to the Milky Way galaxy but through time again. They had technically been gone for years even past the end of the Mass Effect 3 game. But when traveling through a wormhole they travel through time as well and end up in the middle of mass effect 3. They bring the blueprints of the new weapons to the council and mass production begins of them. Each ship being equipped with the new weapons.

The ending: your team and the Prothean Team team up with Shepherd and his team and defeat the reapers conventionally. Due to time travel all the events of Mass Effect 3 are undone and the Reapers are defeated. Mass celebration ensues across the galaxy. Later in another scene scientists are analyzing the egg that was brought back from the Andromeda galaxy. There is a similar DNA found in the Milky Way Galaxy on the Drell homeworld, no contact had been made with that world since they had assumed they all killed each other out of hunger. The truth is that the new specie had already began to evolve and rapidly with the new conditions of the Drell homeworld.

-Cue Mass Effect 4-

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do not know if anyone will take the time to read this story. It is very lengthy, but I hope some do and would love feedback and ideas to expand on this. Let me know what you guys think! Thanks!

If your basis for making Andromeda is to fix ME3 then I don't want to play that Andromeda. :)

Is there a Mass Effect explanation for black holes?

Quick summary of your idea to 'fix' ME3. So, Protheans have an accident when technology they created to theoretically travel to a different galaxy, does exactly that. Now humans decide to try it themselves they also have an accident. Protheans meet Humans in Andromeda galaxy they find some stuff, they come back to the Milky Way and they defeat the reapers.

As I said already if the whole purpose of a new game is not for enjoyment, but to 'fix' another game then I don't see the point in it.

There were plot failings in ME3 but it was written by professional writers and had a theme. Could it be better? Yes. But the story it tells is nothing short of magnificence based on what they had to work with and what they achieved. One of the best story based games of the last ten years. ME3 is the story of how one man in a Quintillion (How many intelligent beings were there?) managed to end a threat that had devastated many 'cycles'. It was credible even if you disliked it.

" Haestrom was established to observe the phenomena on Dholen ,the system's parent star. Dholen appeared to be unstable, with a high possibility of erupting prematurely into a red giant. "

The Dark Energy might be a lot bigger problem in the future for the Milky Way, dying stars destroying the habitable planets and this means the Milky Way civilization need answers for the Dark Energy, maybe they can find what they want in the Andromeda Galaxy.

Dark Energy threat might be fix Mass Effect 3.

Justifying Mass Effect 3's ending will just seem moronic at this point.

Yeah, on the contrary, Andromeda should be the game that makes people focus on the clean slate - a setting for future ME games - instead of the shameful display RGB was, and somehow manages to continue the franchise despite Hudson's best effort to end it.

I totally get that. A new game trying to fix an old one is kind of pointless and a waste of time. My goal with this was to just write a way that you could continue the franchise. I am like you and liked the ending of mass effect 3 (after the extended cut), I was just sad how it seemed to leave no room for expansion or continuation. It just, ended. This was my attempt at finding a way to conclude the previous game and lay ground work for another trilogy to take place. New bad guy, new enemy, new threat. It seems a lot of people want Shepherd back, or at least see their Shepherd in the next game. This was an attempt to show how that could be possible.

However, in the end, I trust bioware. I wrote this just for fun and to bring hope in possibilities that this franchise can and will have a future.

Thank you everyone for your feedback!

Interesting idea.  I don't really remember much information being given in game or through the codex about the current state of the Drell homeworld.  If we're to run into any previous races from past cycles I'd like to see more than just the Protheans.  Anyway, enjoyed reading this more than the majority of BSN lately.

The Issue here is that there are a lot of people who don't feel Mass Effect 3 needs fixing.  I have ran into tons of people that didn't have an issue with the ending (because, lets be honest, that is the only thing people just can't let go) and even say gameplay wise ME3 is the best in the series.

How about we just let Bioware do what they want to do and then we can respond be either purchasing and thus supporting there product or not purchasing which if enough do this they would need to rethink the direction the series is going.

Black holes are not fueled by dark matter and wormholes probably do not allow you to travel through time, so I have a slight nitpick with your take on the science of how it would work (I do agree that, in theory, wormhole travel from place to place could be possible if you can stabilize the wormhole). From http://www.space.com...-wormholes.html:

Another problem comes from stability. The predicted Einstein-Rosen wormholes would be useless for travel because they collapse quickly. But more recent research found that a wormhole containing "exotic" matter could stay open and unchanging for longer periods of time.

Exotic matter, which should not be confused with dark matter or antimatter, contains negative energy density and a large negative pressure. Such matter has only been seen in the behavior of certain vacuum states as part of quantum field theory.

If a wormhole contained sufficient exotic matter, whether naturally occurring or artificially added, it could theoretically be used as a method of sending information or travelers through space.

Wormholes may not only connect two separate regions within the universe, they could also connect two different universes. Similarly, some scientists have conjectured that if one mouth of a wormhole is moved in a specific manner, it could allow for time travel. However, British cosmologist Stephen Hawking has argued that such use is not possible. [Weird Science: Wormholes Make the Best Time Machines]

"A wormhole is not really a means of going back in time, it's a short cut, so that something that was far away is much closer," NASA's Eric Christian wrote.

Although adding exotic matter to a wormhole might stabilize it to the point that human passengers could travel safely through it, there is still the possibility that the addition of "regular" matter would be sufficient to destabilize the portal.

I side with Stephen Hawking on this one, personally. And I don't think ME3 needs to be "fixed" through ME:A; I think it would do a disservice to the new game to make it go through any kind of time travel-related contortions solely for the sake of "fixing" a game/game ending that you still have a problem with.

The new game needs to stand, and aside from the Reaper War in ME3 providing an impetus for people to go to Andromeda, I feel it should have nothing more to do with ME3 than that. Wormhole travel is fine and going somewhere else during the events of ME3 on an ark as a contingency plan is fine, but please don't try to shoehorn in a weird time travel plot just to "fix" ME3. I'm someone who doesn't mind the idea of time travel in general (I mean, hello, I'm a Doctor Who fine with all the time travel-related wackiness, etc.), but only if it's appropriate, interesting, and actually works science-wise (assuming that you're going for a hard sci-fi approach).

Sorry, but I kind of find the whole revisionist time-travel team-up proposal to be a bit silly (this is, alas, not the universe of Doctor Who where you could totally get away with being that silly). Aside from that, the resulting ME:A/ME 3 hybrid ending you've whipped up is pat and unrealistically happy. It's kind of like if you took Game of Thrones and then suddenly threw in a time travel plot to save Ned Stark from certain doom because you like him so much that you can't give him up (I like Ned, but he's dead - RIP, Ned).

I actually hope the exact opposite: not even a mention of the original trilogy, aside from a Blasto cameo.

I didn't like the ending, but it is what it is. But I loved the world, so let's see what else they have to offer.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

You make some very good points! Frankly even though I wrote this I agree with you. As for pulling from game of thrones, I actually have never even seen an episode nor do I know what it is about haha (I don't have satellite tv).

From reading the responses given by the people here I can see that almost nobody wants to go back to the original trilogy. I was always under the assumption that people didn't like how things ended and wanted Shepherd in the new game. I wrote this as a way of showing a possibility of how that could happen. However, since contrary to my original perception it seems people just want a clean slate. Frankly I agree with them so long as bioware will provide great character development and story depth again (which I have faith they will!)

Thank you for your response!

That's not how some internet consumers work. Unlike an offline consumer who holds the wallet, some internet consumers will kick and scream until Bioware rewrites the ending. Despite having told multiple times it would only be expanded upon.

I don't think anyone should expect MEA to be an attempt at fixing ME3 but rather an attempt at rebooting a franchise that was extremely well-done and beloved by fans, even if it wrote itself into a corner. Don't blame BW for the inconsistencies in the story: we all know EA had a huge role to play in those...

I liked the ending of Mass Effect 3.

The reapers try to indoctrinate Shepard and its up to you to make the choice whether they succeed or not.

It's a typical plot twist BioWare ending and it was awesome :)

Pretty much.  My issues with the ending were resolved with the Extended Cut.  Bioware has confirmed they are moving on.  They are not touching the trilogy.  Shepard's story is over.

Well you got me second guessing myself now... I thought I'd read somewhere that the plot for ME3 had leaked and that EA had ordered BW to come up with a different story/ending because of it. Now I can't find where I read that anymore so I'll take back my previous comment and plead the fifth.
