Where do you want ME4 to be set?

Yeah I know, I'm jumping the gun a bit with this thread...

Since we don't have any concrete info on Andromeda to either fuel the hype train, or complain about, I thought I'd start this pointless thread to go with all the others.

Assuming for a moment that Andromeda is a standalone and not the start of a multi-game series, where would you want the next game to be set? Would you want to remain in Andromeda, or would you want the series to return to the Milky Way?

As much as I think the Andromeda setting could turn out to be interesting (I'm down for some Ark Theory), I do hope at some point the series will explore the aftermath of ME3. So I'm hoping that eventually we'll get a Milky Way sequel of some kind.

If Bioware returns to the Milky Way for a sequel, I think their best bet would be just to role with one of three main High EMS choices as the sole basis for a sequel,. The other choices would still be canon if you chose them, but wouldn't form the basis for the sequel.

I want a spin off or something like New Vegas (not a legit sequel) where the entire game takes place in one giant area (like the Citadel in the original trilogy) or just one planet. Also for it to be more personal story. Like Dragon Age 2 but good.

I doubt Mass Effect: Andromeda would be a standalone.  Mass Effect was developed in mind with the player being able to carry over their choices, from game to game.  I see ME:A following the same formula.  And to be honest, I see us being in the Andromeda galaxy for quite sometime.  That is until BioWare decides to reboot and retcon ME1-3 entirely.

I think ME:A starts us off in a smart part of the Andromeda galaxy, and then eventually opens up to other star clusters within that galaxy.  I am with you though, I want to revist the Milky Way with the consequences of our actions from the original trilogy.  However, I am happy that we are going somewhere new, with new races, and new characters.

Right now, in my opinion, Andromeda is a sure thing.  They just have to correct their mistakes over the past three games, and make sure ME3 ending does not happen again.  I can tell BioWare is already regaining some of their fans.  And despite their being a lack of relevant data, fans ask questions and devs answer.  And some of these questions are pretty well thought out.

I definitely want to return to the Milky Way in a game set after ME3 at some point.

I don't care how they'd handle it, I just want my Milky Way back!

Eventually, but not for a long time.  OR if we do go back to the milky way, I don't expect it to be in ME:A1..

I'd prefer to stay in Andromeda for sequels.

A prequel or sidequel in the Milky Way would be nice. It would be way to complicated to make a sequel in the Milky Way.

There won't be a Mass Effect 4. If Andromeda is a success the next one will be Andromeda 2. If not, Mass Effect is dead, Jim.

I think it would be difficult to make a game which imports the stuff that happened 3 games ago. If they have several games after Andromeda, then that is up to 4-5 games worth of save information to take into account.

I can sort of see why they would want to wipe the slate clean and start fresh and not have to worry about what happened in Shepard's trilogy. I mean, we already saw the actions of his choices.

What happened in the Milky Way, stays in the Milky Way. What happens in Andromeda stays in Andromeda.

I do agree with that.

If there is an ME4, it should only be affected by previous choices made in the galaxy it is set in.

Maybe this is crazy, but I would eventually like to see a C-Sec game set entirely on the Citadel.  Just pure sci-fi, cop drama meets Mass Effect.  As for a "Mass Effect 4", I'd like to see it set in the same area as the original setting, but after the ending.

I am not going to write off Andromeda until I see the locations and environments. I am hoping for a nice neo-noir "Blade Runner" type city.

Better idea: Playable game featuring Blasto and his By-The-Book Elcor Teammate.

Bio can always go the Multiverse theory.

This concept allows everyone to be happy, as there exists a parallel universe where all thee choices + the EC exists. The next MW story can then be told from one of these parallel Universes (ie: alternate realities).

Google Multiverse for lots of explanations.

Milky way based on a destroy ending. Of course Andromeda might have a really awesome story and change my mind. But I do think ME3 left things in a very interesting and wide open position and would love to see what happens next.

That would be my preference for a Milky Way sequel. All ending choices would be canon (multiverse), but the sequel would only explore the outcome of one of the three endings. I'd even prefer that to a mashup of all three ending choices even if it means that my choice wouldn't be the one the sequel is based on.

Might be interesting if it was set in the Milky Way, only 3000-4000 years later, so that the endings are basically meaningless.  The Citadel civilizations have advanced to such a degree that:

(1) Catalyst Shepard (if they exist) has either been deactivated or decided to put the Reapers in mothballs, meaning no interference from the Machine God.

(2) everyone has some degree of cybernetic enhancements

(3) Synthetics (if they exist) have developed that capacity to understand and empathize with organics, at least to some degree.  (Related to the "understanding organics" part of Synthesis)

(4) the Citadel races are building new Mass Relays (either because they had to do extensive repairs on them following Destroy, or simply because they want to do so)

In terms of continuity, the latter two points would be the only ones that depend entirely on whether Destroy was chosen or not.  It could be argued that these four points either invalidate the ending choices for ME3, or the second one is illogical (given the Citadel Race's experiences with a certain techno-organic species), but that's why it would be set thousands of years later.
