"Walk Softly" (and "Grizzly End") and "Even Ground" are always on for me now. I've played the game a lot of times, and I really like the randomness of coming across an enemy with immunities and abilities I don't expect. It's adding a nice little dose of challenge without turning combat into a war of attrition, endlessly chipping away at ridiculous health bars.

I started a new game to try for the "Trial of the Magician" achievement (I didn't have a save before Val Royeaux), but I don't know if I'm going to turn on "Travel Light" again any time soon. That one was a bit tedious. I'll probably also save "Rub Dirt on It" for the tropy. I'll turn on "Rest Easy" once I'm settled in the new stronghold and actually have focus for it to matter.

All things considered, the new trials are a lot of fun. Well done!

Completely agree, the combat is better than ever now. I was playing Knight Enchanter and it was starting to get a little boring, but this - along with the new ability upgrades and KE balance changes - has completely switched up my playstyle and made the combat so much more diverse. Plus, you get extra items in your special delivery chest every so often if you have the trials on (it's mostly fade touched materials and the occasional rare piece of equipment). The combat is just a lot more fun and it encourages more tactical thought now.

Given DA track record, I am surprised they didn't put the trial:

Hard Cheese: you never get critical hits

in the game. :D

Can lead to a few oddities, though

I wholeheartedly agree. I am finding these a new reason to replay the game (together with excellent ending for the game itself). I in particularly love the aforementioned Even ground and Walk softly, but also I find Take it slow to be exactly what I needed to freshen things up- levelling was just so fast I ended with gazillion skills I did not want, but slapped in anyways because I had points to spare (all hail new skill upgrades too to sort out this problem!).

Fair-weather friends I did not bother with. I have played the game through so many times that I do not find much reason to tweak the companion approval (I have seen it all and pretending I do not know how to milk the approval is getting hard..). Bunched with NM I now find game worth replaying, so great work on this improvement.
