Since the disapprovals are doubled you are seeing slightly -> normal -> greatly -> not sure but probably bordering on you disgust me inquisitor!

Yes but slightly is worth -1. Normal is worth -10.
I'm not a great math person but 1 x 2 is not 10.

When exactly is the Trial of the Fool achievement supposed to unlock and did anyone else just not get it when reaching Skyhold at lvl 5? I just spent the evening getting an Inquisitor to Skyhold as fast as possible and now I simply didn't get the achievement.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the solution on reddit. I simply had to travel somewhere else after reaching Skyhold and got the achievement.

Both of these require that trials be "always on" from the very start of the game... but that's impossible.

You can't set the trials to "on" until you have control of your character on the bridge in Haven, but you can gain approval or disapproval while still in the dungeon. Is this intended? I would hate, hate, HATE to get all the way to the Winter Palace before discovering that it was wasted effort.

You can, you just have to -start- a new character, when you're picking your cards, there's a Custom difficulty setting. Use that to turn on Trials from the start.

Also, you have to make it to Halamshiral, WITHOUT losing any of your Inner Circle. Thankfully, you don't have to actually finish Halamshiral to get the achievement.

I just finished my run and you can take the greatly disapprove from going templars from cole/dorian and they don't immediately leave.

I forgot that upon recruiting cole after Champions of the Just, you get a free Greatly Approve and Dorian just didn't leave when he showed up. Might have gotten some approval from the inquisitor speech/recruiting him that prevented that.

From a metagame standpoint, you get enhanced amulet of barrier for killing fiona, so it's better to go this route.

I went with Champions of the Just alongside Trial of the Lovers. You can gain approval with Dorian when you recruit him and war table operations. The only problem is Cole. If you try talking to him again after you recruit him at the infirmary tents he gives his warning message. Something like, "We're not helping enough people." So simply don't talk to him and get enough power to start Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts.

For Trial of the Fool I made a rogue to use stealth to hide from enemies. You don't need to upgrade your equipment right away because you're not going to be fighting. Avoid Codex entries but grab all the loot around Haven. Talk to Mother Giselle then Corporeal Vale to turn on power. Grab all the camps, get the forder from Dennet, and then do requisitions (including Threnn's). I was able to claim the camp next to the ravine without fighting by using stealth and then running away. The only tough camp to grab without fighting is in Hafter's Woods Of Overspawning Death. Once you have 15 power return to Haven and grab Mother Giselle's requisition. Now upgrade your gear to survive the battles ahead. In Val Royeaux pick up Belle but no one else.

Once you have picked a side, entire battles can be skipped by running past enemies to the next door or by turning the crank at the trebuchets. I was about halfway through level 4 when I started In Your Heart Shall Burn, and was still level 4 after.

Your Cole advice is wrong. Cole can gain approval before reaching skyhold HOWEVER he can't leave until skyhold.
Cole with auto leave when you zone into skyhold, no exceptions. You can't start WEWH until you leave once.

I totally forgot it's been that long since I did any - requisitions only give power and not xp boost then? I'd avoided them so far since I wasn't sure.

And are all the quests related to the refugees available after Skyhold? I know you get some agents from them. (I might just get the achievement then reload before IYHSB to go back and do stuff that can be missed.)

2 quests dissapear. The mage and templar encampment are gone and are required to recruit vale.

@ An unculteredpotato - Nah. I wrote that you shouldn't talk to him until you gain enough power to start WEWH. You have to leave Skyhold to do that. If you ally with the templars Cole greatly disapproves x 2. You then have to let him into the party and he approves. If Cole auto leaves then you are doing something purposefully to cause him to leave, i.e. playing evil between letting him in and moving to Skyhold. Since you're trying to gain as much approval as possible playing evil is shooting yourself in the foot.

If you're really frightened about him bailing you can leave some side quests open in the Hinterlands (the wolves, rescuing Druffy, Flowers for Senna, Lord Woolsley) These are easy and quick to complete. You can even do these quests beforehand, just don't turn them in. Accept Cole into the group at Haven, don't chat with him, and then run and finish these quick quests. Even if he isn't in the away team he'll approve. That should be enough to pull him back from the brink.

Yeah I know. Cole auto leaves at -30 when you zone into skyhold. It doesn't matter if you talk to him or not.
That's what I meant. Talking to him or not talking to him doesn't change anything.
EDIT: umm...Cole...doesn't get a greatly approve anymore. >.>'''

I didn't realise you could set it before starting the game and turned on Lovers as soon as I gained control. Have I screwed myself over? Just made it to Skyhold and got Fools so I'm loath to start all over again...

@ OllyOlly - I turned on trials right as I gained control of the character and had no trouble as long as they stay on.

Thanks for clarifying how to turn these on pre game.  Some trials can be toggled on mid game for the trophy/achievement, but I know that activating Rest Easy right before taking Suledin's Keep doesn't work.

Has anyone else randomly got this achievement without selecting the trial? I swear i have never used the trial at all and immediately after capturing suledin keep it gave me the achievement..

Blackwall and Dorian can leave.

You're stuck with Solas. We all are. At least we can punch him... If needed.

I turned on 'Take it Slow' after I got control of my character at the start of the game, reached skyhold at level 5 and the achievement didn't unlock, and the achievement mentions nothing about turning 'take it slow' on before the game even begins.

[Edit: Ok seems I had to travel somewhere outside of skyhold for it to activate, phew.]

That's good to know, I was a bit worried there as I have a save made as soon as you can with - finally - a good looking character but no trials on.

I got to Skyhold at level 5. I used Varric to stealth me past enemies and establish camps in The Hinterlands and on the Storm Coast. didn't recruit anybody til Skyhold. I did go to Vivienne's party and refused her help after telling her to go ahead and kill Lord Rudeling. I defeated the rift in front of Redcliffe as well as in the Chantry. I read all the codex entries in Haven except for the dungeon (if Sera can unlock the dungeon cells for you why not Varric?). I read the ones in Redcliffe Castle during In Hushed Whispers and fought everybody and every rift during that quest. I avoided other codex entries til later. Many of the personal quests also yield experience, so don't finish them til after you get the achievement. One word of advice about the requisitions: quicksave before speaking to the req. officer to make sure you get a req. you can easily fulfill. I made the mistake of not doing that and my first Hinterlands requisition required Obsidian, which is difficult to get without fighting. You can't purchase it either until you are a higher level. That's one reason I went to the Storm Coast.

I have Trial of the Lovers turned on for the heck of it, this wasn't the pt where I was going for the achievement. Had the fun of seeing Cassandra drunk after making me Inquisitor.
