I need 9 of some type of cloth for one of the components for the Necromancer (and unfortunately at some earlier point I think I goofed and used up some of what I had and remade my current character/respecialized when I didn't know what I was doing). I just need a few more bits of cloth. How the heck can I get more quickly so I can get on with creating my new character?

If you have a surplus of leather and metals make staff upgrades from the weapon crafting screen using metals and leather.  Then break those items down into cloth.

Thanks. Basically, I need some Silk (or Silk Brocade).

salvage any runes in your inventory. When I first started, this was the only guaranteed way to get some cloth. You can live without runes. What Kalgerion said above is another way if you have lots of leather and metal.

Salvaging staves works too.

light armor upgrades also give cloth when salvaged.

If you get the 1,000,000 mage exp chest that should unlock all the mages except Virtuoso.

I didn't know about the making staff upgrade with metals trick until after I made the T2.5 cloth armor.   But I figured out that normal salvage didn't seem to get much of cloth.  So I started doing runes and armor upgrades and found that they do give cloth.   I don't really need 10 lesser fire runes or apprentice arms or legs.

Ha! I'm stealing that one.
