Anyone think the Scaled Ones will make a return, or do you think they are all dead due to darkspawn?

Does anyone want to play as a Scaled One in DA4? ^_^

Do you think it was just a tongue in cheek "lol, we had underground lizard people" trope?

Do you think they were the Scaled Ones because they drank the blood of dragons, possibly being the initial Old God worshippers?

If you have no idea who I'm talking about, check out Chronicles of a Forgotten War in the codex entries from The Descent DLC (or check the Dragon Age wikia).

They fought the dwarves sometime between -1195 Ancient and -975 Ancient. It is was in -975 that Arlathan was supposedly sunk by the Imperium. So, within the hundred years or so gap, the Imperium fought Arlathan, and the dwarves had these skirmishes with a hidden foe who they could never really defeat and the two sides seemed to have just avoided each other for thousands of years?

The Deep Roads are as mysterious as the Fade, there is even a Nug King!

My wild theory is that they were probably a branch off species of the elves who went underground when the Veil went up, drank dragon blood to survive the new way of the world, and became the Scaled Ones. So, because elves were immortal and reavers are powerful, they were surprised when the dwarves killed one of their own.

No we probably won't get to play as one, ever. Or ever see them for that matter. It's just adding lore to the world.

seeing as how they are being hinted so strongly I would say that they are likely to have some part in DA4 even if in a small lore way. I too think there is a connection with dragon's blood and reavers and in the forgotten war codex they seems to be very deadly and skilled warriors wears what the dwarves said looked like tavinter armor.

Well, at least they're not drow, I keep half expecting/dreading Bioware to pull those guys out at some point.

I doubt we'll be playing as one anytime soon. My current theory is that they were/are Kossith, precursors to the Qunari that may still exist.

Tied to the Kossith? That's an interesting idea, considering the Kossith sounded like they were not from Thedas, but that group the dwarves met may have been just invaders, who probably returned to where the Kossith came from after the craziness of the surface happened. Bull did say that they probably don't look like the Qunari do, and its obvious the Qunari have a reaver history, with needing the Qun to stay civilized according to Solas or someone, and being a reaver for a long time can make one develop scales.

I think it was tongue and cheek. I found the same book in the Trespasser DLC

Hmmm, could be precursers to the Kossith or maybe....the Fex?

If you're a reaver, Cassandra does mention that the were tales of her relatives being greedy and drinking dragon blood excessively.
Maybe these scaled ones fed on a dragon and were transformed by the primal power in an effort to reconnect with their dragon gods?

I have no idea, but if I were to hazard a guess I would say that the Fex and the Scaled Ones are not the same race. I would not be surprised to see a Scaled One appear at some point, ala "Javik" in ME3 (but who knows)? The Fex are probably nothing more than a primitive tribe similar to the Avvar.

There's evidence of qunari in Tevinter long before the First Blight. And Corypheus says that the Qunari "aren't even a race" and calls them "a mistake". I suspect that the Kossith originated as a Tevinter experiment, later expunged from the historical record.

These scaled one aren't described as having horns but that might have been to avoid giving it away too easily and Iron Bull does say that they probably don't look the same as the qunari, thanks to generations of selective breeding.

I was hoping for a little hint of Qunari origins in this dlc. Hopefully it will be addressed in the next game.

Couldn't those Scaled ones be some sort of nonperfect product when someone was making Qunari from Kossith? Something like: We have Kossith(elves of some sort?) and we want them to be more powerful. With first try, they made these Scaled ones, but they were to much like a dragon/lizard(so they lost their interest in them). the second time they tried, they created Qunari?

I half hold out hope that "those across the sea" are related to the scaled ones in some way because of how skilled their spies were.

But more likely I think they are the perfect form of the Qunari, Cory calls Bull or Qunari Inquisitor a mistake so what was the perfect outcome? We know Qunari are somehow related to dragons, and the scaled ones are maybe related to dragons and were seen performing blood rituals. so I'm guessing they are what the Qunari were supposed to become.

I hope the darkspawn didn't kill them off. Even if we can't play as one it'd be interesting to see them return.

Maybe Kal Sharok knows more about the Scaled Ones, if they didn't leave Thedas or die out. Perhaps they helped Kal Sharok survive?
