Greetings. As you all know, the 1.10 update changed many things. With regards to Rogues and Tempest, it changed Shadow Strike and certain Flasks.

I am simply curious if Tempest Archer is still viable post 1.10, especially since we can no longer rely on Shadow Strike to reduce cooldowns.

If it is viable, I am curious so as to what abilities would you recommend for me to use.

Thanks & have a nice day.

I used to be a archer Tempest until the recent changes tempted me to adopt a more in your face kind of style with daggers.

I've been using Sera to test out Archery and Tempest.
I think the new upgrade to the FoF is pretty decent if you want to use multiple varied attacks in succession. I find the stealth upgrade in leaping shot is good as the last skill in a combo.
I used to keep FoFr as an emergency panic button but the stealth leaping shot seems to suffice.
Also, the leeching poison weapons upgrade plus FoL with thunderstruck for Sera seemed to work well.

Yes, the patch seems to be pushing the Tempest towards Double Daggers. I thought I was weird to think that but apparently not. My Inquisitor will go with Artificer then. The alternative upgrades to Spike Trap and Fallback plan are juicy.

Nah not weird at all. For example, the twin fangs upgrade really favors tempest!

I agree that Artificer seems a very natural fit for an archer -that's not to say a dagger isn't good, but if you're interested in Archery then it seems Artificer blends better than Tempest.

I like the toggle upgrade for elemental mine- feel like Varric should be called N7 Artificer :)

Fixed it for you.

I've really been wanting to try out the alternate Flask of Lightning upgrade for archer.  I think the knockback sounds awesome for archer tempest.

Really the only change is you can't stay perma-flasked anymore.  But the same is true for DW.  Sure Flask of Frost new upgrade favors DW, but Flask of Frost has ALWAYS favored DW.  They really should toss out the taunt upgrade and make it so your attacks do frost damage or something instead.

I used to use this before, and I'd still use it after.

I might switch a few upgrades here and there, but basically the same.

Of course it's viable. I only see improvements to Tempest Archer, nothing that makes it worse.

The FoF upgrade Flaming Chain is a lot of fun. You don't even have to use the full chain. If there are 2 or 3 actives that you would typically use anyway, you can now do them for free! Poison Weapons, Long Shot, Leaping Shot (to Stealth), for example, or Leaping Shot, Long Shot (for 900% bonus).

Take your favorite Archer skills: I'm partial to Long Shot, Leaping Shot and Explosive Arrow.

Add in at least two flasks: Fire and Lightning

Take Poison Weapons with upgrade,  you can toggle to the gain health alt at lower levels to help combat squishiness.

Take Thousand Cuts.

That leaves one spare slot for whatever you want: Flask of Frost, Full Draw, Hook & Tackle, Stealth (though I don't recommend this), KO Powder, whatever.
