made a dual wield artificer and trying out elemental mines.

I have a big problem targeting these mines.

the skill is not upgraded to throw everything yet, so i dont know if that will make a difference.

 

The mines fly everywhere, except to the target.

Watched some youtube video's of artificers, and when they throw elemental mines the spread out neatly 

near the target, but when i throw them they seem to go all over the place.

 

Is this because they arent upgraded yet(so i throw far less maybe) or should i target differently?

I wasn't very good at using them when I played an artificer but in my games, Varric isn't either. Well after the battles are over, he has things exploding all over the place.

They don't necessarily go towards your target, but instead are thrown in an arc in front of your character.  So if you are turned slightly, it'll throw them all wonky.

 

Think of cone of cold from DA2.

Also one thing to keep in mind as a daggers artificer is that the mines are thrown at a set 'distance'. This distance is very short but it is always the same. Meaning, if you are close enough to hit an enemy with an auto attack and you use elemental mines you will throw them past the target. They take some skill and experience to use well but they can be devastating when you do.

It's a bug since patch 10, where the mines fly to the heavens instead of your target. Funny when the mines get stuck on a Giants face.

I haven't seen this bug and I have an artificer.  Very strange.  But I rarely lock my target.  Maybe that's the difference.

wow I am having the same issue! as this is my first playthrough I initially was not sure if that is how it was supposed to be. sometimes the mines will be thrown towards enemies but most of the time they just take off flying across the map! hopefully there will be a fix soon

i'l experiment some more with the target distance.

 

Sometimes they spread ok, but sometimes they indeed fly to heaven 8-)
