i only ever play as Human anyway. I find it easier to get into the character.

I'm more interested in good presets. Both Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 had great human presets, and Origins had good elven/dwarven ones, too. Dragon Age: Inquisition doesn't really have any human ones (and only elven #5 works for me), AND character creator isn't very newbie-friendly, especially if you start with chin and cheekbones.
So I'd certainly love to be playing as an elf, but I want character creator presets, too!

Important enough.
I'm a huge DAII fan, but one of the things I did not like was the lack of race options. The origin stories in Origins were enjoyable, and I think Inquisition made a step in the right direction by bringing race selection back.

This is really overdue, for both PCs and NPCs. I'd kill to finally be able to play a warrior who actually looks like one.
Hawke looks like a warrior, even as a mage ![]()

I'd prefer another Hawke but I think race choice isn't something they'll go back on now, most I can hope for is a single set background.

Oh I agree, but a lot of me just feels a bit insulted by the whole "ideal form" thing. I mean, when they clearly prefer using it over being realistic, it makes me feel... can't think of the right word here - Used? Undervalued? - As a woman. It's also like that for men, but at least the built-up look makes sense, so it's not so bad.
If they really didn't want to use resources to make more than one model, they should have made them both realistically toned. As much as I appreciate Bioware being better than other studios when it comes to being progressive, I find it disappointing they elected to be "sexy" rather than realistic.
Same. Otherwise, as long as the premise is right and the model doesn't put me off (painfully scrawny female elves, female dwarves who don't look like dwarves i.e. stocky and heavyset at all), I'm open to playing just about anything.
Male and female elves are painfully scrawny. I wish they could look more like Solas and the ancient elves, but I guess the point is that they don't. Dwarves though? Yeah... no. I would be a lot more tempted to play one if she looked like an Origins or DA2 dwarf - that is, looking like a dwarf and not like, well, a child. It's also annoying because it's a retcon - again, because "sexy". Female dwarves before DA:I were only a little thinner than Oghren. It was much better, and made the race actually have differences from others.
Good point. And yes, I really hope the Inquisitor will be back, and under played control in some capacity.
I really hope so too. I've written a lot about in in a thread about it. I'd even be open to playing as them and a new protagonist, but I need control over her, especially in regards to Solas.
The best we can get is controlling Aveline and Cass
Well, your Warden, Hawke, or Inquisitor can all look at least as warrior-like as them as a human female... In armour. It would be nice if they looked just as imposing in casual wear.
Sorry for the rant.

There are many people who want to play their Inquisitor again in DA4. This would require character customization to get the look as close as possible.
There are also many people who want their Inquisitor to show up in a non-protagonist capacity. This too would require customization to replicate their appearance.
In either case, "Inquisitor appears = character customization with multiple races", and it makes no sense to have said customization in the game for the Inquisitor and yet restrict it for DA4's protagonist. It's not even a matter of preference, it's a matter of logic.
Addendum: It's less a matter of my opinion on whether PC race should be selectable. It's a matter of "if the Inquisitor shows up (and that's a big if), you should be able to choose your race" because it really bothers me when certain features are locked out "logical" use for no good reason. Like when a fighting game character with a full moveset is for some reason not part of the playable roster.

I'm still waiting for good female animations that don't make me want to hit something. Sure there not as bad as the ME2/3 ones but still.

If it effects gameplay or matters like it did in Dragon Age origins it's important but if it just lets you pick a race for the sake of picking one and means very little in the long run then I don't see the point of it

Given where the plot of the next game is going, it'd feel really off to go back to a Hawke-style human only protagonist. At the very least a human/elf option is almost a must, dwarf should be in there to, Qunari would be trickiest given they're in active war with the Imperium most of the time.

A slave background for all pcs in DA4 would work for all races and classes. It would also give us something to work upwards from.

Since elf was the only race outside human that even had real differences, chances of an elf being playable again is high. Biowares never done good with dwarves so I rather they not personally.

I'm just bitter that after two games and a expac they have still done a poor job with dwarve PC and qunari was very eh.

I have a feeling this will be a very likely scenario with how they introduce the new PC if there is one.
Allowed for all races and classes?: Check
All from the same starting point?: Check
Doesn't know much about setting?: Check

I'm just waiting for good animations in general. I actually don't want separate animations for males and females though, I think it's silly for the same reason the current body types are: It generalizes males as stomping around like apes and females as being so dainty they would actually have to be putting effort into it. Think of the ridiculous hip-swaying - no one does that naturally. I'd much rather go back to neutral, non-over-the-top animations like ME1 had. Plus, it would take less effort.

I don't know about dwarves, but I feel like Qunari time to shine is yet to come. DA:I was also the first time out for Qunari pcs, so there hasn't been much opportunity yet. Since DA:I had races added in pretty much as an afterthought, there will probably be better integration if they're included from the beginning. Even in the DLCs, I saw an improvement. (Elves were better at remembering their own lore than they were in the base game, lol.)

What made the ME1 good was females had a very very very subtle tweak to their animation. You will notice if you pay attention and it worked. Don't know why we went from that to hip swaying, gorilla walking and re-using old madden running animations.

I'm never against more options, but I'm not exactly sure what that would consist of. Hip-sway or no hip-sway? Are there even many other differences at the moment? Do you have ideas?

Well, having never played ME as a male, I can't say I noticed. Can you describe it? The skeleton for male and female bodies is almost the same, but not quite, so do you just mean minor adjustments to keep the animation quality with a different skeleton (like races), or something actually different?
