Did they change the RNG recently?

Rng has always been a game of chance. Think of it like the lottery, the more you spend the higher your chances of hitting something yet the odds are always stacked against you (army/highland dorks, common runes vs. Physical immunity amulet). You may get something nice at first (beginners luck), but the odds even out in the end eventually.

An observation from yesterday.

I entered the store with Reaver selected, and received 3 superb belts of health out of 4 chests. I backed out, changed to Archer to check something and went back to the store, receiving 2 enhanced belts of urgency out of 3 chests. I know I'm not the only one regularly receiving multiple of the same items in one sitting, and if changing class possibly resets something in the store, it may be better to just spend gold as you get it; on the off chance that it will ensure some variety between chests.

Yeah, I know, RNG. But this multiple duplicate stuff is happening a lot lately, and it's annoying as hell. I'll put the tin foil hat away now.

Yeah, I'll confirm this too.  Since I came back to this game a few days ago, I've found two purples.  Both in the same chest, both the Tenasarin bow.  I was kind of excited, my first purples since I came back, and two in one pack!  Wait, level 8...

Agree with class dependence on the chest loot. Got things like starfang, stagger ring & Sullivan blade with Avaar. Wish I received those items before hakkon weapons were released :(.

I don't know the programming feasibility of this, but I was pondering about future DAMP and loots...

Considering a loot system like now (which as I understand is a lottery %chance + stages of loot buckets progressed thru by item acquisition, pls correct me if wrong) then perhaps MODIFIERS could be applied to the equation. Such as games played, gold spent, class presently playing, challenges progression and promotions used. Each modifier could provide a precentage chance increase to the lottery. Still no certainty, but modifiers that allow a player to actively focus and improve their chances at a drop.

So a player playing a rogue who wants a chance at that special bow plays that character and progresses thru those challenges and promotions. In match modifiers and in store modifiers give a +%chance for that active class and weapon type etc. etc.

This should facilitate a reward scenario whereby the more a player puts in the greater chance at reward. Perhaps in order for the lottery to not continually tip in player favor, thus incrementally reducing time needed to invest, that some +% chance modifiers (eg. games recently played or something) are reset to a base value after a certain +% reached and unique earned. In this way these types of modifiers are similar to how a critical chance modifier works and resets during battle.

Giving the player these things allows us to know both our time and skill can affect our reward.

Thoughts?

I like the idea of modifiers but I don't necessarily like the active class thing.  Right now my best weapon is a two handed axe which I will use to play the harder difficulties hoping to find weapons for my other characters not necessarily a new shinier two handed weapon.  I think this would lead to people who have their best gear focused into one group and just kinda meh gear for the others.. leading to people sticking with their good stuff and not venturing as much into the other classes. Not sure if Im explaining it clearly but it would sort of act like a positive feedback loop for sticking with the same kind of character.

Find best item for warrior... use warrior in peri/nightmare bc other classes aren't there yet.. find better warrior gear.. other classes are even further behind... stick with warrior...  and so on

You have a fair point about the Active Class Modifier. However, by your own admission, you are essentially already playing in that loop with the present system, at least inadvertently. You're playing a warrior with your best warrior weapon hoping to get a weapon for another class. With an Active Class Modifier you'd be giving yourself the better chance, a +% not a certainty, for that other class weapon by actually playing it.

Correct, I'm looping strong warrior looking for other weapons besides a two hander.  I just wouldn't want to have to use my crappy bow for the best odds at a better one.  However, if the modifier brought the odds at a better bow to a point that its close, even or better to use my crappy bow on a low difficulty rather than a two hander on a harder difficulty it may be worth it I guess... but I'd reach the highest difficulties faster by just staying two hander and combining the better loot from the harder difficulty + the modifier.  Plus if I get a new weapon I want to use it, rather than feel obligated to switch characters to get a better weapon for them. However Im sure my point kinda loses weight once you get to a certain point gear and promo wise and you're farming for the very top stuff.  I dunno.. there's a few different ways to view this.

I've also noticed not getting a single high level unique weapon since before the weekend. It's like every unique is a level 11, level 9... the only good thing I managed to acquire all week was a Sup Ring of Crit Chance and a Proving Shield (which I already had... and I don't think is even a unique...)

I've noticed this for a while. Unique's seem regular, but are low level. Every so often, I'll pull a high level. I've gotten 3 Winter pact belts and one fire. This evening I pulled a Bloody Bargain and Kingfischer staff from the 3 chests I opened. I already had the king staff, but it's nice to know high levels are dropping. "Loot buckets" need to have more tiers than they do now in order to scale with game progression, and at some point, lower 'buckets' need to end when you're well above lower tier items--low level uniques aren't any better than greys when you're a Promo Lord. High level items should salvage into higher level crafting items as well. It's not like you've got 300+ promotes and you're still using iron to craft your weapon mods.

Just my 2 cents, fwiw.

I think it's gone back to normal...

Definitely back to normal.

Spend away in the store.

Still strange there was no comment on this and then suddenly it's working again.  Wasted hundreds of thousands.  Wish I'd waited now.

LOL. Conspiracy Theory.

We'll show all these people who saved up hundreds of thousands of gold. Lets make sure to tell them we're spending 300K and that the store is all good to go. Meanwhile, we'll shadow nerf the drop rates and reset the economy.

Well done Luke, Rothschild. Well done.

Just like to say that nothing had changed between when the patch dropped and this post. I think all the vocal forumites were just really unlucky

It really seems like there are periods where no matter how much gold you spend you can't get anything good, and other periods where you get a lucky streak of many purple items. How does that work?? is it all psychological??

I think it's fair to say DAMP RNG is like a huge black box with some really complicated algorithms inside of it making it work.

And as with all complex software components, it probably has some bugs here and there.

Maybe the loot tables just filled with too many junk weapons. We've had quite a few new weapons added, and not many have been taken off the loot tables. In fact, we have weaken versions of older uniques to boot. If the drop chances of rares hasn't been adjusted to compensate for the influx of weak weapons/many more accessories, then of course you're not going to see the item you are looking for, even after 100-200k or even more gold spent.

Is a drop chance increase for rares in order for those in the highest "loot bucket"?

Idk, I got some nice stuff in the last few days

Superb Belt of the Winterpact
The Knight's Second

Today I even got Heart of Despair :wizard: (and the Boon of Spoon, but that one was in a chest in perilous  )

Wooow. Gilli, you know you're great and all but right now I hate you a bit for rng giving you stuff that it hasn't given me after many more millions spent. :D

But you know, I've said it again, I'll say it now too. Screw that rng monster that BW created etc. etc.
Also I am drunk so take my words with a pinch of salt. Except that rng thing, rng sucks...

Can you guys please take the highland/army dirks out of the loot tables? I don't mind getting boon of spoons, but the dirks they have to go or at least out the high tier chests. If someone spends 2000 gold on a superb requisition, than they should have greater chances of not scoring crap that's worse than inquisition weapons.

I'll say something I never thought I'd say in my life. It's better to get cryo ammo than those crappy Highland dirks.
