I'm looking for a cool 1-handed sword schematic.

I noticed that, at least in the Vanilla, there wasn't any cool looking Tier 3 One-handed Swords. I love playing a Warrior, and when I do, I like looking like a Paladin with his holy magical sword of justice. I love beautiful shiny swords that could pass off as Excalibur or something. The closest sword to that is Caliban, but unfortunately it's not a schematic, and quite frankly it's easily surpassed by anyone who makes a One-hander with decent enough materials.

So now that I'm jumping back into the game with all three DLCs, and the "Special Shipments" patched in, is there a one handed sword schematic in the game that would make demons trembles as I unsheathe it, hold it high in the air and shout "Behold!"

?

EDIT: You can blame my love for beautiful fantasy swords on Ocarina of Time btw. The Master Sword mesmerized me as a kid.

Avenger from BE looks awesome.

Give it Cleansing Rune and you're good to go as a paladin.

Aww yuck.

The Avenger looks cool though. I heard about the Tevinter Longsword as well, but apparently it was removed from the game and you can only get it via cheats apparently. There really wasn't a lot of love for Longswords in this game. Plenty of love for those friggin daggers though.

Yeah, simple longswords with cool looks are none existent in this game. Only ugly abominations.

I quite like the dwarven longsword. Nothing too fancy, but a bit of detail to keep it interesting.

Avenger is the nicest looking one, but it's not as good as some of the others.

I have a Tevinter Long Sword I noticed after golden nuging all of my characters to ensure I had all of the schematics. It's kind of buggy though as it clips rather badly with the handle upgrades.

Yeah, shame it's Tier 2.

If you have Essence of Perfection you can boost it to match both the Hakkon and Descent longswords. That what I did and it a monster now, stick a Superb Rune on it and you've basically got ghe best longsword in the game

Unless there is one in Trespasser anyway, haven't seen one myself

I think Brand is supposed to be the OP one-handed sword schematic from Tespasser (judging by the fact that there are multiple unique swords available that use the same design), but the devs screwed up the coding for it and it ended up with an abysmally low damage output, as well as apparently being classified as a staff (even though only warriors can wield it). Hopefully they'll fix that in the next patch.

And the lack of cool looking one handed sword designs that are also actually viable for combat irks me too. What really gets me though is that there *are* some amazing looking one handed swords in the game, but they're all really weak, and we can't even get schematics for most of them. -sigh- Yet another reason that Bioware should add an in game system that allows us to combine the looks of one item with the stats of another. Ah well. At least we have Avenger for now.. I guess. :P

Think this applies to all the weapons in the game and armours as well.

Couldn't agree more, there are some really cool looking one handed sword hilts but since the only good one handed swords hace no hilt slot, they become pointless :(

Yeah, shame it's Tier 2.

I thought there was a T3 schematic of it? Maybe I'm imagining things.

I just checked and yeah, I was wrong. It's Tier 3.

I must have been thrown off by it's pathetic base damage. There is a Tier 2 mace that has higher minimum damage then the Tier 3 Dwarven Longsword has maximum damage.

Good to know I'm not mad completely mad :)

Though yeah, it's not a great weapon when compared to some of the other schematics. As a sword, I'd expect it to have a lower DPS, but it doesn't even seem to have a higher per hit damage than T3 maces and axes.

I ended up just using Caliban on my last sword and board inquisitor. Thankfully its base stats and the masterwork it's crafted with aren't too bad, and if you equip it with a masterwork skull grip it makes for a half decent weapon that doesn't look too bad either. Aaaand now, coupled with a crafted "The Best Defense" shield from the Trespasser DLC, it should make up for any short comings that Caliban has with dps. :P

Oh, and @ the OP, that's what I'd recommend if you want a one handed sword that looks paladiny. Caliban's stats are good enough for end game play as long as you change out the hilt for something better. I'd have mentioned it before but I honestly completely forgot about Caliban until about an hour ago when I was looking through my old reaver file. lol

Orrrrrrr if you're up for the idea of going two-handed, I really like crafting a Balanced Greatsword for Cassandra, and using the Jeweled or Etched Pommel schematic, along with either the Butterfly/Firm Greatsword Grip, or Masterwork Etched Greatsword Grip upgrades to really compliment the "divine" look that I aim for when I'm making a weapon for her. Just a thought! ^_^

Here's what that looks like crafted with the Butterfly grip, and Etched Pommel if you're curious. Admittedly the materials I used in this file weren't the best or most optimal, but I really like the look regardless, and Cassandra seems to do pretty well with it even on nightmare, soooo yeah, I kept it.

Spoiler

Anyway sorry for the long post, I just happen to share your affinity for cool looking swords (and all fantasy weapons and armour in general really), so going a little overboard was too easy. haha

The most annoying part is that there are fine good looking swords in this game... but they don't have schematics so they are crap in mid-late game.

I find it is the same thing with mauls and great swords, personal favorites are the whale and the last Stand awesome looking things, with great swords I have not really found anything awesome. I am on the fence with the sure in blade
