You think there's even going to BE a DA 4?

I remember some Bioware employee on Twitter saying it was a very big if on whether Dragon Age 4 was going to happen.  They hadn't gotten the green light to do another one.  Honestly, I never got the chance to role play as a badass elf in this one because they all had crappy hair and messed up character models.  So I'm actually kind of hoping they do make another one.  If only so they can actually be more comfortable with the motherloving game engine this time.

What are your thoughts?

Considering how Inquisition ended and also being very successfull i wouldn't be surprised if the franchise will continue. But don't expect any big announcements until Andromeda is released.

That's a serious question?

If DAI could get the greenlight given DA2's reception, then the production of a DA4 is assured. When that happens is up in the air, but "If" it happens is not in question.

I think DA4 is pretty much a given.

No one said anything to this effect. Stop panic mongering.

What the devs said is that they haven't gotten the green light yet, presumably because they haven't created a vertical slice demo to show EA. There's no way they would have a green light this early in the game design process (assuming they've even started to work on DA 4 yet).

Given how the latest DLC ended, I think DA4 is happening.

DA4 not being greenlit yet is completely standard practice.

It will most likely happen at some point but I hope we get a Bioware game in the future not connected to mass effect or Dragon Age, it would be nice to see a fresh world

I'm fairly confident, yes. It'll be a while before it's at the "we can talk about it now" stage, but it will happen.

Mark Darrah even tweeted the phrase 'I'm not worried' straight after the 'DA has not been greenlit' line, so pretty sure it'll be ok. There are also tweets back and forth between Mike Laidlaw, John Epler and Patrick Weekes suggesting that they may be in the middle of preparing a vertical slice. So I'm not worried either!

I certainly hope so - This universe is my favorite among all of the medieval-fantasy settings. The only other universe that closely rivals it is the Elder Scrolls, in my opinion.

I believe it is more a matter of when we will see the next DA title though.

I don't think it is 100% sure it will happen, they way devs talked about it was pretty suspicious, perhaps there is more happening in the background than we know. If it was about sales and awards it would be confirmed ages ago...

"It's not greenlit" is just marketing-speak for "we have two other games on the table first and we don't want to eat into their hype".  Give it another year or so.  Once ME4 has been out for a while and chugging along, they'll probably have more to say about more Dragon Age as well.

Ugh. No.  No it wouldn't have been confirmed. Why? Because they need to present something to give to EA first before they green light it. Jesus.

I doubt they would have appointed a new Lead Writer for the franchise if they were intending to wind it up in the near future. The odds of there not being a DA4 seem pretty slim given the game sold reasonably well and was positively received by consumers and reviewers.

If their wasn't going to be a DA4 Laidlaw, Darrah, Weekes and others would already by either working on another project or updating their resume.

I think it's a fairly safe bet that we'll see the next one. Probably won't be announced for a few months though.

Fixed it. Sadly until ME:A is out I doubt there will be any information at all on a new DA. Even after that Secret IP is going to take priority as it needs much more hype assistance than an established franchise. I would be surprised if there was even an official announcement by next E3. 2017 is when I'd expect to hear some real info about it.

Granted there might be some 'leaks' before then (DA2 and DAI were filled with leaks before they were even officially announced), but official announcement at a guess will be E3 2017 (or a similar event that year, maybe Comic-Con? [the only event I can actually go to lol]).

The only way I could see DA4 in jeopardy is if the promised new IP is set in a medieval fantasy world.  Otherwise, there's a niche to fill and no reason to dump it.  I'd say odds are good we are seeing another game in this series. There really isn't any benefit to announcing a decision either way, though.  As others have mentioned, the company is gearing up for two highly anticipated releases, and it would not be smart business to stomp on their own hype. DA4 is at least 4 maybe 5 years away.

And to quash this the new IP is confirmed for a 'contemporary' setting. So definitely not medieval-style fantasy.

I understand that but if it was that simple I don't think dev would put so much emphasis of "IF" so many times... this is what strikes me as weird. Doesn't seem just "official" talk like "it is a matter of time", the way they talk is more "we REALLY don't know"

It was exactly the same between DA2 and the official announcement of Inquisition. It was obvious that the team were not being paid to take up space in the building and play with LEGO, but they couldn't talk about what was in the works. I don't expect to hear a single official thing about DA4 until after Andromeda comes out next year, and even then it will probably just be 'the game has been greenlit, now everyone pay attention to Sekrit New IP.'

We're probably not getting another game until 2018, but there's no indication that the franchise is dead.
