He gets mad at your for drinking from the well, does anyone else think it's because the wisdom of the well could have exposed his true nature and identity to the Inquisitor? It did help them get past Solas' spirit guardians in Trespasser. His protests seem like they make a lot more sense considering this.

Nah, I reckon it's genuine. He doesn't like people making themselves slaves to the Evanuris, which is pretty much what you do.

I do think that sentiment is genuine, I'm just wondering if there's more to it on top of that objection. It does offer the Inquisitor the ability to get past his guards.

Interesting idea. If true, though, he actually might have preferred to see the Well destroyed. I mean, Morrigan having the knowledge isn't much better. Also, his knowledge of how to create and destroy the veil may be exclusively his, and not something Mythal's priests would have known.

I'm beginning to think his duty to Mythal is not out of love, but that he is her slave and bound to her Will, so what he is doing is for her, but not because he wishes it, but because he has to do it. If you drink from it, you are bound like he is to her and he knows she has plans for you that would make you suffer as he did. I also think she is still around in some form or another.

Solas despises slavery and forced servitude,
Exactly why he is possibly her slave in my theory. He also learned how to remove the marks, so perhaps he removed his own, though he could not completely escape her if he somehow is bound to her like the Sentinels (he even wears a sentinel outfit in Trespasser) and now has a piece of her inside him.

I think he truly loves her. more than life itself. I think he created the veil and caused all this chaos because they murdered her. Simply blind rage over his lover.

Cole implies that Solas might in fact have been a spirit who was given a elven body by Mythal. We know that is not impossible as the forbidden ones where once elves who where banished and shed their bodies to become demons.

I thought that too at first, but it's just some of his dialogue to my Inquisitor after she drank seems to leave me with the impression he is trapped and fears the same for them. Perhaps his blind love led him to bound himself to her and now that he knows other truths, he is trapped? Either way, I am more convinced now than ever the real threat is Mythal, though she is currently in pieces. If we kill Solas then we might destroy one piece of her, unless she finds a way to pass it on to another, like Morrigan or an Inquisitor who drank from the Well.

If you ask Solas if he wants to drink from the Well of Sorrows, he says something like "Please don't ask me again." It's not the indignant tone I'd expect from a guy who refuses on principle of hating slavery. It's almost sad. It could be a guy who's still hurting over his good friend's (possibly lover's) death. Or it could be the tone of a guy who was once her slave... Hmm.

I thought of this too. I read some codex entries that the statues of Fen'Harel stand always as guardians to protect Mythal, so Solas duty is to protect her. I believe she's manipulating him somehow, and Solas is weak ( he has a soft heart and a great sense of duty and justice). Through him she will seek for vengeance.

Exactly! When I saw that conversation, I immediately concluded Mythal is the one setting all this in motion and Solas is a puppet thinking he is doing what's best for his master, the woman he thinks he loves, and is bound to forever and when Morrigan wonders why a statue of Fen'Harel is in the temple, it's pretty obvious he was her protector. We also see Fen'Harel statues everywhere! I truly believe he was worshiped and put on a pedestal. He even says in Trespasser that the bad or good said about him are half truths based on points of view I would guess. Lavellan can also say his/her clan used Fen'Harel statues as protection. Both he and Mythal were viewed as the good Gods until something went horribly wrong. Her sympathizing with Flemeth makes me think Mythal was killed by her husband, just like Andraste.

Yeah I was just replaying the game and I got to this scene and I was thinking she is playing everyone like a fiddle, In the temple solas said she is "motherly" but she is also dark and vengeful at the same time. Honestly I think she may have a part in solas plan or perhaps it is mythal's plan from the beginning and Solas is the unwitting pawn in her vengeance.

Yo, that theory about Solas playing to Mythal/Flemeth's music is on point. I wouldn't be surprised if we go down that route now.

If this were true, then he would not have been able to kill her. Note that all "slaves" of Mythal were bound with her vallaslin. Solas would probably have those as well if he was one. I'm sure she's probably going to survive what happened to her because plot armor, though.

Or he was worried if you drank from the Well you'd have the Anchor and the knowledge of a matron of the Ancient Elves on your side of the chess game. Solas is cunning and constantly playing The Game better than any Orlesian, though he would never admit it because he is prideful and arrogant and believes he has some clarity no one else has, which he feels gives him the ability to command who lives and who dies because he feels bad about it afterword.
I think Mythal might be in on his plan, but I also think she might be sympathetic to the mortal races of the post-veil world. She raised countless daughters. She possessed a human woman because she empathized with her. Flemeth helps the grey wardens, who she knows may very well destroy the Urthemiel soul even if she does try to protect it. She has also been in the world for a very long time, and has yet to do anything destructive besides killing Templars in her Swamp. While she may be plotting the sundering of this world and may be the ultimate villain pulling the strings of Solas, I don't think so. She says while the music plays, she dances. She's doing things because someone else is guiding her actions. I think that someone else is Solas, whom she is working against. Though I do think she wants to kick some choice members of the Pantheon in the face, but I think her plan is more subtle than Solas'.
EDIT: Oh and I just thought of this! Flemeth also helps Hawke who is important to the sealing of Corypheus and the Red Lyrium and the Mage War, all events that foiled Solas' original plan of using some schmuck to use his orb and then destroy the world before anyone knew! And in so doing, Mythal was partially involved in delaying Solas' plan long enough for Solas to realize the world is not populated by 'tranquil"! Maybe. Who knows.

I think the spirit guardians let Inky pass because Inky knew what to say to them and Inky knew that because she/he had drank from the well. Maybe there is something else that Solas doesn't tell. But I think it might be related to Mythal and how you gave her the ability to control you.
Cole implies that Solas might in fact have been a spirit who was given a elven body by Mythal. We know that is not impossible as the forbidden ones where once elves who where banished and shed their bodies to become demons.
Where is this said? I don't remember reading it anywhere. Maybe I have missed something.

To me it sounded like Solas is desperate. Really desperate. He really doesn't want to drink.

That's brilliant! I never thought of that but it would make PERFECT sense. It would explain why he's all: I don't want to but I MUST.
