Don't know if this is the right sub forum, but oh well, don't know if it's the new patch or what but the bard in the tavern sings but there is no melody has anyone else encountered this (on pc)? This has only happened recently, conversely I have now also had melody but no singing (subtitles though)

It's not a bug, it's intentional. Sometimes the bard will only sing, sometimes she'll only play, and sometimes both. It's always been like that.

Fair enough but surely if the subtitles are going there should be singing, or did bioware put that in for a sing a long
