Okay, I'm in the final stretch heading to Amaranthine.  I did upgrade the walls of the Vigil and gave Wade at least two ore deposits to make weapons for the soldiers.  I know some companions (Anders at least) make it beyond Awakening into other games -- if they survive.  So, who should be in my final team?

I'm inclined to take Velanna to see the end of her storyline.  As far as I know, she doesn't make it to other games and though she may see her sister again, there is no conclusion to that situation.  (How does ally or kill the architect play into this?)

I'm also thinking of Justice over Oghren.

I liked the Sigrun character and want to take her.  Now in her case (she was the last companion I picked up), she agreed to join the wardens but there was never any joining.  (Was there a limit to how many companions could join?)

OTOH, I believe Nathaniel may make it to another game, but what if he's left behind at the Keep?

As to impressions of Awakening, not a bad follow-up to DAO.  I do miss the companions from Origins.  I also miss the romance option.  The whole rune system was needlessly complex, though I did like the idea of armor runes.  Having your companion craft the runes outside the throne room so that you could bring them back into the throne room to have Cera enchant them was annoying.  (Yes, I should've given that ability to my warden, but she was a warrior.  I thought that ability should go to a mage or a dwarf.)  The idea of sapient dark spawn was interesting, although they looked a bit too much like "Skeletor" from the old "He-Man Masters of the Universe" cartoon.  As to the architect, he looks a lot like Cory from Inquisition.  Is he also a fallen magister?  Too bad Velanna and Sigrun aren't coming back.  I liked both characters.  I also liked Velanna's special powers.

I think Sigrun leaves you if you do something but I forget the details.  Can you choose a different character if she does that?  Yeah your thinking on Justice seems sound since he's a tank and all.  If you speced Velanna  to be a healer she's pretty interchangeable with Anders if I remember right.  I don't remember but there might be chests to open at the end.  If you don't fight the Architect you miss a great boss fight.

It would be neat to take Oghren if you can get away with it though.

There wasn't a limit to how many companions could join per se, it's just that whichever companion you recruit last won't be able to go through the Joining because Varel will be busy with getting defenses ready at Vigil's Keep.

There's an unofficial fix you can download from http://www.nexusmods...age/mods/2997/? for your next playthrough, though.

Here's the team I use for Amaranthine-in fact after Sigum joins the group for all quest. I use my Elf Rougue, Sigum,Oghren and Velanna (all are GWs) since I build her up to be a powerful mage and  she has beaten the Mother several times in my games.  All four are tanks since I prefer strong fighters and mages and not depending on one tank since they can be taken out early in a battle as I've learned in my early RPGs like Final Fantasy.

I do urge you and all others to consider making a main battle group and focus on building these characters into tanks. By doing this you can rule the battlefield.

I think you need 3 ore deposits.

I think the Architect is a fallen Magister, maybe one of the first.

Velanna reacts pretty badly if you go against the Architect's deal. For that reason, i leave her behind.

Mike3207, The only reason I agree with the Architect's  deal is I see it as a possible way to end the blights.

As far as Velanna. She's a grumpy hard case with one agenda  and therefore she can't really be pleased. She sees the Architects deal as a means of saving her sister even though her sister is beyond saving at this point.

I think in the short term it probably does work-that's sort of born out in the Awakening epilogue. The main weakness I see is that in time some ambitious darkspawn will want to kill the Architect to restart the fight. Thy're not going to stay down in their tunnels forever, and they'll likely be much stronger later.

The Architect a fallen magister like Cory?  Makes sense though he claims he "doesn't remember" why he is different from other Darkspawn.  (Has the Dragon Age team ever commented on this?)  I made the deal with him both out of deference to Velanna and the fact that he seemed sincere about wanting to stop the Blights and free the Dark Spawn from their natural inclinations.  The fact that he accidently started the Blight in the first place makes it a very serious gamble that could go terribly wrong.  (Hard not to imagine that the DA team plans another Blight, one destined to happen regardless of your choice with the Architect.)
