From DAO we face a form of being that make the braves man run in terror. For much we though these are none more then powerful demons with link to dark part of humanities devloment.
But with tresspasser we now know they are more then just that...

The pages of this book—memory?—show the blazing forms of the Evanuris banishing a howling spirit from the reaches of the Fade that touch their lands.
A voice rings out, stern and imperial:

It seems a crisis happen and Xebankeck and the other 3 cast physical form behind to be spirits for safety. That would mean Mortal becoming spirits and vise versa.
We seen a Spirit become human with Cole and a human turning into a Demon with the Baroness. This also hints to the body jumping powers of Mythal/Flemeth and Corypheus.
As interesting as this is, was does that mean about who the people of thedus truly are?
An old god Bounded Kieran does hint to elves picking their form.
