Action combat has no place in a roleplaying game.

I'm saying it would be a far worse roleplaying game if I had to engage in action combat.

Luckily, I don't. The implementation of the Tac Cam completely eliminates the need to do anything in real-time.

TW3 has mandatory action. There's no way to play the game without it.

ME has only partially mandatory action, as you can trigger abilities and aim while paused, though movement still occurs in real-time.

DAI only forces action on you outside of combat, and even then it's only for jumping.

Might improve the combat.

If by improve you mean ruin then, yep. Get ready for awesome buttons and tactical views galore.

It's not happening, but for fan tears the speculation is delicious.

What can I say, some of us actually like the innovations that competition can bring.
One company succeeding can lift the competition to greater heights.

Er, are we now at a state in which "tactical cams" is used insultingly?

I would think Square Enix, Ubisoft, and Activison would be more likely to parasite CD Projeckt Red to a worst result over how EA would do it. Also there is too much hype around CDPR and the Witcher series and their next game looks too much like a generic cyber punk Deus Ex & System Shock wannabe.

We don't really know much about Cyberpunk 2077, do we?

I'm not really a Witcher fan, so I haven't followed the studio. But how much do we actually know?

They have been fairly tight lipped about Cyberpunk since the original trailer video.

They're going to following as close to the source material as they can.

Open world once again.

Single player game, but also supposed to have multiplayer elements.

Not a fixed protagonist this time around.

Seeing how they have improved there work from Witcher 1 to Witcher 3, I'm quite excited about Cyberpunk. Also as a fan of the genre, and have played the 3 new kickstarter Shadowrun games as well.

They'll be talking more about next year.

Tactical views? Yes please!

If The Witcher had pausable, tactical combat, the series might have been playable.

Have only played Skyrim, but it offers multiple ways to Pause and determine the next action. And were it to have Tactical Camera options, even better.

It does? There's the time shout but I don't remember pausing. Tactical Camera for First person/ots would be a bit odd. Seeing as you're controlling them directly not just issuing orders.

Dragon Age only had tactical camera & combat in first game and Awakening and then it lost it. Tactical camera in Inquisition is a terrible compared to Origin and you can't even zoom out far enough much less use it properly. Pausing doesn't make your combat having any more depth, Witcher 1 had pause function and zoom out.

And what you've said about action combat having no place in RPG, by those standards: ES, Fallout (3 & NV), Mass Effect, Deus Ex, Dragon's Dogma and many other games that just use simple combat are terrible in your eyes ? I rather have combat that is functional and works properly. You have games like Pillars of Eternity and Divinity:OS if you want depth in your combat.

I believe there are ways to Pause the game with Inventory, Favorites, and Powers, at least. Pls believe me when I say that such functionality was needed by myself for gameplay, and helped make this game a favorite.

Tac-Cam in DAI always worked for me, and was improved via Patch to allow for greater distance on the camera.

Skyrim would have been vastly improved with the addition of something like VATS.

Also, the mods help. I really enjoy Skyrim, but I avoid the action combat. I usually have three followers at a time, plus a summoned atronach. They kill everything for me.

You can move it farther away; I usually have the camera pointing forward rather than down, and perched on a hill somewhere. It's far more flexible than DAO's camera.

I didn't say anything about depth. I just want to eliminate action components.

TW1's still made you actively click in real time to swing your sword. It wasn't fun in Diablo, and it wasn't fun in The Witcher.

I can't speak to Deus Ex or Dragon's Dogma (though Dragon's Dogma looks terrible based on the footage I've seen), but the others don't force action combat. The ES games are sufficiently moddable, the Fallout games have VATS, and the ME games let you pause to trigger abilities and even aim your weapon.

An RPG should be a purely intellectual exercise. Action combat adds a manual dexterity element, and that isn't okay.

Good point. I usually went for two followers.

I don't see how people have 3 followers in Skyrim. All that door blocking would drive me bananas. It's bad enough with 1 companion and them constantly RIGHT ON YOUR BACK.

The mod that lets me have extra followers (Amazing Follower Tweaks) includes a means to move them. If I draw a weapon while colliding with a follower, the follower is transported behind me.

Even with just one follower, I find that feature useful.

It also lets me directly manage their gear, and even edit their stats and control their level-ups.

Mods are amazing things. All games should have them.

Oh dear god I use EFF but this is tempting me! They just stand there while I'm screaming "GET OUT. OF MY WAY!" Til I eventually lose it and Fus Ro Dah their ass.

Some mods become vital.

In DAO, I would not play without Detailed Tooltips and the mod to Undo Patch 1.02 Spell Nerfs (which also undoes some of the 1.03 changes).

In DA2, I used a mod to let me equip armour on the companions. Without that, the game wasn't playable.

In FO:NV, I give myself super-fast Action Point regeneration, allowing me to use VATS for every shot.
