The poor fool is a magical anomaly if I ever saw one. I've never heard of magical talent manifesting in an adult (which I assume he is, seeing how he didn't grow into being a Saarebas and was once a teacher).
There's a Codex Entry you can find in the Darvaarad in a form of a correspondence addressed to Tallis. The writer opens his letter with "it is no longer [his] role to instruct others in the Qun", and goes on to explain that he was once a teacher before his "dreams of demons took [him] down a new path". His handwriting is noted to be progressively shakier, includes crossed out passages and trains of thought, and he even admits it's becoming difficult to find wisdom in "the noise". And the letter is signed "Saarath". At first, I didn't understand that the writer and the huge Qunari were one and the same. I can't play the DLC myself, so I only managed to read the codices at the video-maker's discretion. I learned Saarath's name and role as final boss before I learned it was him that wrote the letter.
I pity the man. Manifested magical powers in adulthood, and it couldn't have happened in a more magic-conservative culture. Poor guy. I still want to know why the guy's so freaking big; I took him for an ogre when I first saw the Trespasser trailer. No Qunari can be that big naturally, can they?
Let's Not Gloss Over Saarath

They must have pumped him up with something. The Blight makes genlocks, shrieks, hurlocks, and ogres stronger and more vicious than their un-blighted counterparts. What's to say the qunari couldn't replicate the effect with red lyrium? They were messing around with it in Trespasser. Normal saarebas are bound to their arvaraad by those weird control rod things; I didn't see the Viddasala use one, but she could very well have a supercharged one to control Saarath.
I didn't realize that was Tallis's old teacher until reading your post. Poor guy.

A shame we couldn't kill Tallis. Imagine how much better life would be if we could have sided with Prosper. Man, I felt bad fighting him. He seemed like a cool guy.
Well, he was a stinking Orlesian. And we all know, people from Orlais are statistically more probable to be jerks.

Tallis is not any better, Prosper was polite to be an Orlesian, and if I remember correctly, he was one of the main reasons soothing Celene and Gaspard, congratulations Tallis! you just started a frickin war!

Did we ever find out what happens to Tallis after MoTA? I didn't pay very close attention to the qunari codex entries in Trespasser.

Did MotA happen before or after her webseries?

She sends letters if you side Qunari on Bull's quest, seemingly she is having a struggle on his job and requested advice from Saarath.

Yup, series happened on Kirkwall while the Arishok was stranded, she hunted a rogue Saarebas that wanted to summon Fen'Harel to destroy the world.... Success! :v

Odd that there was no mention of her in Trespasser apart from that. Then again, she's already operated in Orlais before. At the very least, Cyril de Montfort might recognize one of the people who helped kill his father.

Ouch. Hadn't thought of that. Though the Dragon's Breath would still have happened elsewhere in Thedas; it was more widespread than Orlais. It just wouldn't have messed up our fancy party of stupid hats ![]()

I think it was just regular lyrium. The Templar tells you that the Qunari were mining lyrium to feed to their Saarebas. They must have pumped him up with something. I just want to point out that if that had happened the mastermind of this plan(Viddisala) would still be alive. I prefer her death over mass graves of people killed indiscriminately based off an outdated list.

Makes you wonder what exactly the qunari use to control a souped-up saarebas like that. It would have to be something approaching a golem control rod in power, if not more. Or maybe it's a combination of magical compulsion and psychological conditioning that would only work on loyal qunari.

Qunari love to kill deserters, you don't actually think she was being honest on the outdated list after she lied the whole DLC, right?

To add to the point above. Even if the list were outdated, all those people on it would have still committed treason at some point and deserved whatever reckoning was coming to them.

Well he had the collar on but he ripped it off when he got pissed so it could just be loyalty to the Qun. Or maybe Saarath just really didn't like the Inquisitor.I feel like I would have appreciated the coolness more if he AND my stupid hand weren't both trying to kill me

The others looked smaller than him so I suspect they weren't as powerful.

Yes?
doesn't matter how much they love to kill their traitors. Fact remains, they don't and/or can't kill all of. Some need to be prioritized over others. In fact, they seemed to know that guy had the list and didn't deem him worth the effort. Which reinforces the idea that Tallis was being truthful.

Exactly. The fact that the Ben-Hassrath didn't bother to send anybody after the list kind of assured me it was somewhat worthless (in a military sense) so I was more than happy to give it over. Even Prospero looks at it and is disappointed.

The fact that he still had it together after the collar was off not only prove the qun they are wrong about mages and how strong the guys will is.

Eyes with no brain are worthless. A brain with no eyes can still be a threat. It's all temporary but still...
