Oh that codex was interesting! I don't think Solas has been to Tevinter, if his banter with Dorian is anything to go by.

We also have an exiled Tevinter Mage living in the Anderfels that can heal by "graft spirit onto flesh and restore life."

I'm going to delve into my usual tin-hattery here so bear with me..

You know the codex in trespasser that claims Xebenkeck ran off in a time of great need? Well what if she was a healer? Because.. the Forbidden Ones knew blood magic and she was once a purpose spirit.

Sources:

Spoiler

If the "fabric of the world" and "blood magic" aren't so far apart, and if elves made bodies from the earth.. Maybe blood magic is related to lyrium, the blood of the earth?

And why is Imshael so insistent upon being called a "choice spirit"? I haven't read TME but I know the gist of it.

Wait wut

Where is that codex from?

I'm so used to hear that the first blood mages learned from the Old Gods.

Also, I'm not sure why Imsahel wants to be called a choice spirit, he does like giving people two bad choices and feed off their choice (he isn't as direct with his methods like regular desire demons). He also has tons of personality, which is very interesting seeing spirits are supposed to encompass a feeling/trait but Imshael feels a lot more complex than just a desire demon.

Perhaps he is an example of a spirit that is ready to be born into the waking world, perhaps that's also why he doesn't see himself as a demon, he recognizes his own complexities and doesn't like how people view them as bad (even though he is bad ). Perhaps before desire there was choice/purpose, but he was changed, he saw that certain choices give him more and decided to go off that route. Maybe this sort of act of "corruption" from within is what makes a spirit more complex, something like Cole did.

Edit: catching up to the Solas thread I can see this was discussed while I was sleeping  :P

Guh it feels like I'm so close to figuring something out but I can't quite get there.

That codex entry (thanks azarhal) says things that remind me of Imshael's "gardening" habits - the blood feeds, nourishes, the call is heard. Is red lyrium connected to blood? Well lyrium is blighted titan's blood. Blood/Earth that the elves made bodies from. The Forbidden Ones taught blood magic in the same breath as the fabric of the world, and elven blood is more potent in magic. Is elven blood lyrium-y?

And Imshael offered to heal a red Templar of the red lyrium corruption but in return for something more horrifying. What cures red lyrium? Cleansing rune corrupted hearts? What, was he gonna turn him into an undead or something?

Fade nap time for me. I'll keep an eye out for the Formless One ;).

I agree that blood matters and is probably more than... just blood. It reminds me of Robin Hobb's Royal Assassin : two kinds of magic, one related to spirit/elaborated concepts and emotions (the Skill, flowing like a river) and the other to primal instincts and feelings (the Wit, sparkling in every living thing). Maybe Fade magic and Blood magic are just like that. Water and fire. "In your heart shall burn an unquenchable flame..." The "blood" carries something like a "spark/fire of life".

"With the sun gone, the world was covered in shadow, and all that remained in the sky were the reminders of Elgar'nan's battle with his father—drops of the sun's lifeblood, which twinkled and shimmered in the darkness." Fire (of the stars) is described as blood.

It is also said that Korth buried his heart (life energy ?) because he feared the power of love and didn't want his own heart to betray him. It sounds like a spirit that took physical form, maybe a spirit of wisdom, and this spirit was afraid of being corrupted by the fire carried by his blood (instincts, primal emotions like love, fear, joy, anger, pain...). After hiding his heart, he couldn't be killed, says the legend. Of course, if his life essence was elsewhere (splitted ?) than in his body !

Primary emotions can overrun, in our brain, our ability to analyze, when they are strong enough. A great fear makes you run from danger before you decide/choose to do so. Blood magic may not allow as many spells as Fade or lyrium magic, but it is stronger, quicker ? Bound to primary needs like killing, healing, dominating, reproducing. It is aimed at survival. Remember Sylaise ? Healer, teaching how to survive, related to childbirth... and granted with fire blessing. I think she was a powerful blood mage. And her sister Andruil too (goddess of sacrifice / hunt, took the radiance of the stars/sun blood to make a weapon with it...).

Never seen this picture ! Where is it ?
The dragon has 3 eyes and his scales look more like peacock feathers than scales... and he is red and black (demon colors in orlesian theater ?). So probably a dragon corrupted into a Pride demon. Does he have two tongues ??
The 7 others let me unsure... dragons ? The tail doesn't look right unless it is the head with horns ?? Birds ? Something else entirely ? A group of 6, the 7th is apart. Or the 8th if they are all dragons. We see a pattern remembering the mural in Trespasser. Is this depicting the creation of the Veil and defeat of Elgar'nan ?

It looks like it's behind the throne in Skyhold. Maybe they glitched the game and it turned up? So I don't know if it's cannon, I'd say so though.

Five Evanuris to the left, one to the right above everyone..

We got Elgar'nan, June, Falon'Din, Dirthamen, Andruil, Ghilan'nain, Mythal, & Sylaise.

Although 3 eyes are a lot of time associated with Fen'Harel, perhaps we can also see it as a metaphor for pride.

In this case it could be Mythal, the dragon-thingy can look terrified, its' mouth is open and its' head looking up, perhaps screaming? Then the dragon in the top corner could either be the traitor or an Evanuri who didn't to partake in Myhtal's betrayal.

Another option is Elgar'nan, the figure is surrounded by a circle, it's a large and black dragon, and could be seen as intimidating, in that case Mythal would be the one at the top right corner.

It could be Fen'Harel but I am less confident in that option because Solas never drew himself as a straight out dragon, but if he is Fen'Harel then it means Mythal possibly wasn't drawn and this was after her death. I am unsure though why there would be an Evanuri separated from the rest if this was the case.

Maybe it has something to do with the Forgotten Ones?

Well that looks a bit creepy.

Not sure who this dragon is supposed to be , he's got the funny eyes like some Fen Harel pictures...but his scales look like drops of blood .So mmmm...

It looks like birds on the background , and not dragons .The tails are just too different .

There's a flock of six , and one all by himself .

The number 7 has been pretty important so far , 7 old gods , seven gates of the Golden City .

But still why a big scary dragon and ...birds?

I'm calling it - they're peacocks.

The elusive peacocks of Thedas death, as seen in the other black city art.

Nice find!

The instant I saw that hooded man stabbed in the heart I instantly thought of the Dirthamen statue in Flemeth's realm ... as for the Hooded female(?) figure perhaps it might be Sylaise? Based on her mosaic she wears a hooded robe with ornaments on the hood/shawl:

Unless it's Ghilan'nain since there's a theory they were working with each other for whatever reasons

Well this is getting weirder!

Yeah it looks like a man getting stabbed , and not Andraste at all.

I can't remember if the statue is supposed to be Falon'din or Dirthamen though.

So yeah...who got stabbed?

It looks like a man so I guess not Mythal murder.

And also they look very casual about the sword through the chest thing.

-snip-

I'm more inclined to Sylaise. We know so little about her.  Also it kinda matched with the mosaic above. Although the pic doesnt show if the hooded woman is friend or foe to the stabbed one. Just maybe she was present at the time.

But, am i missing something here? Mythal was murdered, we know this as a fact, but nowhere it is mentioned that another evanuris (if we suppose this is Falon'din or Dirthamen) was also murdered.

On the other hand, we know Solas and Abelas (from where we know of Mythal's murder) were 'fond' (to put it simply) of Mythal, maybe they didnt bother to tell us about another murder, as they weren't so fond of the rest, so to what end would they share this info with us?

I we only have Mythal's followers point-of-views on then whole matter which is probably quite biased and misleading. Also, the sword in the back/heart can be a figurative "he was backstabbed" (aka betrayed).

Also, it's quite possible that one of them died and came back (similar to Mythal), only it was pre-veil and much easier to achieve back then and regained most of her/his power so it's not talked about anymore.

I'm betting it's an Evanuris. Remember, it's a dragon - and the dragons are the "form reserved for the gods". Solas is the only one of the ancient elven gods who doesn't share the dragon motif.
