I had an amazing experience the other night. I hosted a threatening game, set it to public, and played my reaver at level 1. Always do this to get straight to dragon rage before hitting perilous. I could start in perilous at level 1, but I do not rate myself that good, even with decent stats, and if no one joins then making it to the end is a bit dubious (I do not like searching and joining a perilous pug when I am level 1, as players may think I am a leecher). By the time I got to zone 5 I had been joined by another reaver at level 4, an archer level 3, and the amazing new mage about level 10 if I remember correctly.

After the game I said on the mic that I was going to change it to perilous, they all stayed and in we went. No one else spoke, but at least two of them could hear me, as responses to me were quite positive. The mage and the rogue opened their doors and moved on ahead eating into the mobs and collecting gold, leaving myself and the other reaver to clear all the treasure rooms. We caught up with them as quickly as possible of course.

Various games followed and we all promoted fairly quickly. No messing about, no F4 spamming, no silliness, just good methodical play.

Now, if only this could happen more often.

Speed running a threatening makes sense when it can take too long with a perilous as well.  I do the same myself by running threatening as a lvl 1, though I generally do this more as a courtesy to access perilous with decent skills.  I used to do this often in routine back in the day before the armour buff.

I'm able to contribute decently as a lvl 1 in perilous with my stats but I very rarely do this unless the team is made up of top leaderboarders doing the same.

The best players are those who understand what makes a session efficient; it's not about who can kill the quickest at first sight but rather about moving as one group to break those pots and open those doors quickly to finish the match as soon as possible with as much exp and gold.

A strong enough team should should open all doors immediately and 2 man the room.  Some classes can solo treasure room but I find it better to have 2 to a room with each going to either side of the room to pick the gold up and to kill the potential guardian quickly.  A melee class can find it particularly annoying to Benny Hill an arcane horror around the room which is why it's better to have 2 to a room.

With every item being potentially available with chest purchased with gold; it's worthwhile to get as much gold as possible.

I always upgrade my threatning lobby to perilous as well, after my level 1 reached level 7. Most of the time people stay. Sometimes there will be 1 or 2 people in there who can't really handle perilous, but thats okay. I can carry them with most classes, plus, like you say, they play more team orientated then the higher level people. We clear treasure rooms together, wait for everyone before attacking a mob, stuff like that. It takes a bit more time then when you do perilous with a group of high leveled players but i enjoy this a lot more.

Hey thanks. Yes I remember and it was good fun. I shall be on about 17:30 to 19:30 GMT today, not that long as I have RL rubbish to do. My Scottish accent has never been called distinguished before :) Thanks again, you've made my day!
