The SSV Hammond.
Only if its from Texas.
Ah, yes. The Phoenix was renamed to Hammond. Good choice. RIP Don S. David.
Years ago, I ran a campaign on the old Star Wars RPG system. I've long forgotten the specific circumstances, but somehow when everyone got together to name the ship they would be flying on, they unanimously decided on "The Rat's Ass."
This was not far enough, however, as their company came to be named "The Rat Bastards" and ship weapon upgrades would be named the "Rat Launcher" etc. etc.
Somehow I doubt this little story is of much productive use in discussing the name of the ship in ME:A, unless something really weird (and hilarious) happens.
I'd go with a name that has mythological or religious roots and references transportation in some way.
Possibly.
With respect to specter vs spectre, this is a regional spelling difference, and specter wasn't even most common in the United States until the mid 20th century.

A mutiny should do the trick! Mutiny and a good deal of jettisoning helpless frosted settlers in their cryo chambers into the intergalactic void.
Normandy was a perfect name for the context of the previous story but for Andromeda we need a name that embodies exploration...like the Lewis and Clark or Calypso (Jacques Cousteau's research vessel.)
The only reason that I'm thinking the Tempest is a bad idea really, if indeed that is the name, is because what if it gets caught in a tempest? I mean, you don't exactly name your seaworthy vessel "Rotten Sunken Bastard" now do you?
Just call it Dauntless.
Galacterprise Falcon.
Think that takes care of most of the space operas.

Throw a Fire or Fly in there and you're set.
Actually it should be called:
The Black Pearl
Sovereign.
Tempest: a violent commotion, disturbance, or tumult.
We are going to Andromeda to find a new home for humanity but instead we find [see definition above].
Here's my list:
- Aurora
- Destiny
- Prometheus
- Daedalus
Totally not taken from Stargate.
The O'Neill
The Resolute
