Does anyone realise that Corypheus actually saved the world?

By not dying as Solas planned it and instead trying to reach the Fade with a half assed plan, effectively delaying Solas' plan to remove the Veil and most certainly ending Thedas as we know it?

I'll never see him in the same light again. He was never a very good villain. Now to me he's just a poor, bumbling and misunderstood God-wannabe who actually gave the world a few more years and became another of the long line of Fen'Harel's victims.

Here's to Cory. Abandoned by Dumat, imprisoned for thousands of years and finally killed by a thankless world he wanted to lead to enlightenment under his Godhood.

My thoughts exactly. Thank ye gods for Corypheus and his explosion-surviving ability.

Mind = Blown.

But actually, we don't know what would have happened - without you Solas would have been absorbed by Mythal rather than the other way around (or perhaps they would have just lived together happily ever after). I haven't played trespasser under those conditions (but am totally going to do so right now) - but we don't know what would have happened then.

Corypheus only wanted to be worshiped as the new Maker. He had no interest in destroying the world. His plan was actually quite brilliant but of course dark. At least he would have been a god that answered the prayers of his faithful. He was the far better choice over Solas who does want to destroy everyone but the elves.

A reasonable view, but I'm not sure if death wouldn't be preferable to living in Corypheus' dark future.

Apart from that, Corypheus is clearly one of the most unlikely accidental saviours in fiction. this thread has already made a topic of that.

Except he doesn't. When Alexius sends you to the future you can see what happens if Corypheus would be successful, it looks equally as bad as what Solas is intending to do.

Considering that both of their plans of action ends with the end of Thedas as we know it, I really don't consider him saving us much from anything.

The Cory-ruled world looked like a demon-infested, no-fun zone, so I wouldn't want him on the Maker's throne either. Hopefully Solas can be killed dead or lured from the dark side with the magic of friendship or Lavellan's vagina-power before he murders everyone.

Vale, Coryfish. He was a terrible villain, but he tried his hardest, and no-one can ask more than that.

It's truly a pity that everyone won't be able to wield a weapon of such immense power against him. We'll have to settle with the subpar "magic of friendship".

The Power of Love isn't exactly my favorite trope. One person shouldn't make the difference in a decision of this scope. If it turns out we can turn Solas away from his path, I'd have it be with good arguments including new facts he didn't know about. Someone like Solas shouldn't be swayed from his path easily, and he would already know all the standard arguments and accounted for them.

Cory should come back in DA4 as a companion. Let the smug ancient elf learn not to mess with a Tevinter Magister.

That's what they call Fate and I love it! All because of Corypheus (who I actually pity at the end when he pleads to Dumat) not only did the world get to survive a bit longer, but the Dread Wolf was able to have his heart changed and now the inevitable is being prolonged due to his conflicting feelings about a world he felt was wrong and now thinks it's not so bad thanks to the person cursed by his own magic. All thanks to Corypheus!

No, the Man Behind the Scenes is the real hero. The same Person who made sure the Hero of Feralden was saved made sure that Solas was tricked into giving Corypantsuit the Orb. There are Forces that are intrinsically invested in the "well being" of Thedas and Inquisitors will stumble in rooms at the right time and Heros of Ferelden's will be plucked from certain death and Champions will be saved from the Blight. This mysterious "they" obviously has opposition, but so far the ultimate destruction of Thedas (tipping into the Void, perhaps?) still hasn't occurred so my hat is tipped to "them". Cory was and is (if he still exists in the Fade in some form) a giant arsehole who didn't bother to find out who all the players on the board were before he started claiming "godhood".

Yep. Cory's survival and escape with the orb, as well as the Inquisitor's taking of the mark, set Solas back quite a bit. The explosion at the Conclave led to the formation of the Inquisition, which eventually revealed Solas' ultimate goal. And even if you disband the Inquisition, it brought together the people that will likely play an essential role in stopping Solas. So not only did Cory buy the world a few years, but if Solas' plans are stopped, he'll likely have been the catalyst for that success.

Cory's is a cautionary tale on the dangers of not reading the manual before operating complex machinery.
