I see tiers to pre-order bonuses being a thing now.  Forcing people to pre-order in order to get bonuses (ex: see Deus Ex Mankind Divided), or forcing people to pre-order in order to get early access (NBA 2K, EA Access, and various other games).

A high quality Collectors Box, maybe a Sticker for the car window and a Figurine for the desk.., make them available ONLY as a pre-order, that stops the people buying up those editions and reselling them.

I don't mind having extra in game content, that's the "thank you" for pre-ordering.

Cheers

Possibly, although the backlash Deus Ex is getting is a major deterrent.

If you notice, EA has scaled back their pre-orders heavily, mainly because everyone was upset over Project $10 (which if you look back it, was not that bad of an idea) or a few collector edition box sets, instead of elaborate pre-order bonuses.

We might still get in-store exclusives, but they tend to be minor anyway.

A couple points.

1 Dues Ex, that's one of those words I've read but never heard.  so, huh that's how you say it.  Day-Ose Ex

2.  Is that  his real voice or is it some kind of affectation? An exaggerated version of his real voice. He isn't as cocky as that in real life. That is just a persona.

3.  While I don't like the Dues Ex pre-order plan, the video goes a bit overboard on the problems with pre-orders in general. Fair point. Besides. If you want to kill pre-order culture, stop pre-ordering games. If enough consumers do this, triple A developers won't feel so inclined to produce special pre-order editions.

As for pre-order content i would go with the same price as the standard edition and in hardcover box with limited edition art work and hardcover art book and soundtrack cd. While stocks last or pre-orders only, so very limited quantity. So there would be no problem where you should pre-order, you can simply pre-order MEA in your local store so you can get your limited edition copy of the game with pre-order bonuses.

On your last point.  You first...  I don't mean literally you, because maybe you don't.  The problem with these ideas is unless you plan on organizing in some way there is no motivation to not buy the pre-order.  As just me not doing it, does nothing.  All I would do is punish myself.  Organize a protest or boycott of pre-orders and this issue might get somewhere. Outside oft that, if the pre-order bonus is something someone wants odds are they will get it, as them abstaining has no impact on the culture.

Oh here is a video on the subject.

Deus Ex MD's CE is not a pre-order content. You mix the two those got nothing to do with each other. You can simple skip the Deus Ex CE and buy this later on.

Of course it is going to be a limited quantity and for a fair price but as for multiplatform game there is a big chance that the CE might get 40 or even 50% OFF for the pre-order price.

I'm not really big on preorders, I'd rather wait until game gets patched in playable state and price gets dropped a bit than preorder. It's also bit hard for me to preorder, since there isn't lot of places in my country where you can (I guess I could somehow preorder via PSN though).

I'm on the same boat. Games at release tend to have glitches or unfinished things, so in my mind quality might not match a high price. I tend to wait a few months.

Is there any information on what might be the requirements to run MEA on PC? I can run DAI flawlessly, I'm assuming this won't be much different.

I'd be fine if the pre-order content for Andromeda was similar to Inquisition, just a bunch of cosmetic items that look nice but aren't really needed. I do know though that if Andromeda get's a CE I'm definitely getting that, Inquistion's was way too much for me and Andromeda is one of my most anticipated upcoming games.

No early release please! And knowing EA, it'll be on their EA Access.

The fault of Pre-orders lands SQUARELY on the shoulders of gamers. If gamers refused to pre-order then pre-orders and their exclusives would die off. Gamers have to stop being idiots and stop pre-ordering games for a pointless bauble. "But i want the bauble." which is why I have little respect for gamers as a community. We are ignorant, narrow minded and as a whole show almost zero capacity for restraint.

I tend to pre-order only those games that I know I'm going to buy irrespective when they come out (I will be pre-ordering XCOM 2 for instance)... hell, I've put Kickstarter backing on a couple of games (granted they were sequels to originals that I loved) and you've got absolutely no guarantees there.

If I get a random shiny piece of nonsense for taking the "risk", then I'm fine with that... the shiny bauble, in itself, is never the reason to pre-order.

Like most things they have attempted things like it in the past and it didn't work out, I really don't think it will catch on this time either. For Steam tried doing the exact same thing with BioShock: Infinite and a few other games and it didn't catch on for it worked for a game or two and then it didn't work anymore.

I was also just informed that Steam did the same thing with Tomb Raider (2013) as well with three tiers unlocking more content including DLC, a free copy of another game, and early access.

Preordering is unnecessary in my opinion. And it perpetuates broken, unpolished games. Most of the real world trinkets you get are cheap junk. I understand the need to collect, but most of that preorder loot is so low quality. And I've heard so many horror stories about it arriving broken. Yikes. Seems like they prey on the collectors/hoarders of the world. Not to be confused with The Collectors who prey on us.

A preorder is a guaranteed sale. Companies churn out these games that still need fixing but they've already reserved so many sales before release.

It used to be that you preorder to save yourself a copy of the game in case it sells out. With digital content...this isn't a problem anymore yet companies push harder and harder with the preordering.

And the completion of these games has become worse and worse. DAI certainly was broken. It still is with many features that are so wonky. (I'm looking at you Enchanter Mail Arms).

I definitely frown on exclusive preorder DLC. That's unfair. But I refuse to fork over money ahead of time until the game is fixed/patched/done.

What if I plan to play a game on release ?

That is the one benefit of pre-orders and digital content is you can usually download in advance and it unlocks on the release date.  This can save you a decent amount of time depending on your internet connection.  I am not focused on this fixed/patched/done idea myself as I usually find the release game too be complete and usually essentially bug free for me.  Yeah sure sometimes i'm the unlucky X% that gets hit with the bug that breaks the game, or I feel the game was super short so they can make room for DLC, but I have not found that to be a common problem in the games I get.
