Where on earth are you getting these numbers from? I've never seen any official source say anything like that.

I believe it was World of Thedas Volume One that gave us the "1 million in Ferelden pre-Blight" figure. The same source also notes that Orlais had a population four times that.

Edit: It's from the Prima Official Game Guide, which is canon.

The world as it isn't exactly all that great. Wiping the slate clean could be for the best.
But then again it wasn't that great before either. Absolute power corrupts with or without the veil.

It's like saying a nuclear fallout scenario can solve all our modern days problems.

Not really. in that instance pretty much nothing but cockroaches survive. as well as leave the world irradiated for centuries.

with the veil everything trapped in the veil survives. A few people outside the veil might as well just gotta know when to duck perhaps.

Another thought is the eluvians could be a way to transfer people to a safe world should the veil come down. Don't know who gets to play judge on that one though. As in who is worthy of saving and who isn't. Actually that could be one hell of an ending. Veil comes down, people sprinting for the nearest stargate Eluvian

It is, but he also could just eliminate all of the taint of the world and then unite the elves to be the new leaders. Starting with the Qunari then humans, then probably Solas himself. I know how far fetched that sounds, but literally the worst people in dragon age are the Qunari and Humans. They're literally at conflict with everyone (including themselves) when they don't get their way. Then they cause massive wars to prove that they their way of life is right and resort to forced conscription or abuse in order to put fear into others.

The ancient Elves did all those things and more, so you want to replace Qunari and Human wars with even more destructive God Elves, aren't you a clever chappy!

Solas did say he had a plan for them as well.

That's not very comforting, I'm afraid. Solas's plans are notoriously ****.

There should be an option like "You just said your last plan went totally wrong" right after he said he has a plan.

I said "Chosen" ones because it is a select group that is going into the metaphorical Noah's ark to sail into the sunset and a brave new world or did i miss the part where everyone will just fall sleep and wake up in the land of milk and honey?

I would presume for one it would be the surviving ancient elves, other than the group at mythrial's temple I seem to recall Solas there were other places where there were still ancient elves remaining that the elves at the temple could join up with. Other than that the dwarves would likely still be kicking and likely a few humans would surivive though the Avvar gods will likely be not amused at the deaths many of their followers and likely neither will the maker who's return has been foretold.

Its not really clear at this point who Solas means to survive this. It could just be the ancient elves, then again he's also including modern elves in his forces.

It's also not clear exactly how removing the Veil will kill everyone. I mean, will re establishing everyone's conscious connection to the Fade kill most people or is it just that the ensuing chaos of removing it will dismantle society and kill a lot of people? I don't know. But I don't think Solas wants to restore the elves because their his "Chosen" people or because he's a supremacist. Rather, he wants to restore them because he's the one that tore them down in the first place.

The entire world would be destroyed, teh Fade is shaped by intent. Solas would remove all people with literally a wave of his hand, were the real world and the Fade there. He even admits this.

Yes, it would be terrible. No, it would not be good in the long run. The ancient elves had their chance, they screwed it up. It's over for them.

I honestly don't blame Solas, I mean have you met us? (Humanity F*ck Yeah!) If you got your boot on our throats, never ever go full retard and let up. No matter how nice, or innocent or full of potential we seem, we will always turn it around and make it bite you in the arse eventually.

Technically the whole "freeing slaves from my evil coworkers" thing is kind of right. It's just that he forgot to smash those apes who just across the sea first.

1. Solas is super bad at plans

2. Here is an analogy.

Solas, who is super annoyed that Cory stole his factory farm idea, is about to order a steak. The Inquisitor, an animal rights activist (just roll with me here), shows Solas some PETA footage of cows doing amazing things and then cows going to slaughter in a factory farm. Solas' response to that is "you know what, that is an abomination! Screw that Cory guy, I'm gonna make my farm grass fed & free-range"

Either way, all the cows go to the abattoir.

When he planned for the Inquisitor to close the breaches.

They lost their immortality, lost connection to the fade and their civilization fell. Solas failed, hard.

"But this time it's DIFFERENT, Inquisitor."

"Why?"

"Because."

"...because why?"

"Because reasons."

No. No one gets a cosmic do over button. Not when it comes at the cost of everyone in the current cosmos.

Everyone says this. Solas isn't going to literally end the world. Earlier in that same convo he says he destroyed the elves old world. He obviously didn't literally destroy, he figuratively did. He caused changes that resulted in every society ending and allowing new ones to rise. There is no reason to believe Solas is being any more literal when he says he wants to 'destroy our world'.

Some people would die, but no where near everyone.

Read the last book. Elves enslaved Elves. Even Solas stated that they (Ancient Elves) would have destroyed the world. There is no Utopia.

I kind of see his point. When he said that he didn't see the people of this world as actual people it really spoke to me. The people of Thedas are like half of a whole, their disconnected from the Fade on a conscious level. It doesn't have to be a perfect world but I can understand his reasoning that it might be better. A world of Tranquil is not one I'd like to live in.

When you ask him why he'd bother stopping the Qunari if he's going to destroy the world regardless, he tells you that he'd rather have "those recovering from the breach" die in comfort, free from the Qun. Some people might probably survive his plan, ans they did when he created the Veil in the first place, but he doesn't exactly shy away from stating just how devastating it'll be.

idk he pretty literally destroyed a hell of a lot of it - even cities and pathways crumbled because they needed magic to exist
