So... is what Solas wants to do really that bad?

You mean, trying to save the elves?  I applaud that actually.  Whatever the Ancient Elves were, elves currently don't get the short end of the stick...they get BEATEN with it, repeatedly.  Even by each other, in fact.  They fell...HARD.  Playing as a Dalish Inquisitor, especially a Solas Romanced Lavellan, you really get to see different side of the Dalish.  You can understand their frustration with Mythal, and why they feel so abandoned.  Let's be honest, the elves have NO IDEA what the old elves were like.  They lost pretty much everything, so much in fact that they don't even know WHAT they lost.  It is quite tragic.

Now, having SAID that...HOW he intends to restore the elves?  Um...no.  No, no, no, no, no, no FRIGGIN' WAY Solas.  Even if he was your friend, his plan to basically obliterate you isn't going to fly.  Dude, SERIOUSLY I get it.  You basically blew up your friends houses.  You DON'T fix that by dropping a NEW house on MY house.  Also, how about all those workers who are helping you WITH your plan?  Did you tell them that THEY might not be moving into the new Fade Pad?  That they might actually be UNDER it when it falls?  Did you consider that said house might not SURVIVE it when you drop the thing?

OH, and lets not forget the PREVIOUS tenants of said world, the Evanuris.  Who have been trapped for EVER so long and are most likely LESS than happy with Solas AND...well...EVERYTHING.  Remember Corypheus?  How unabashedly EVIL he was?  Hammy, Tainted and willing to destroy EVERYTHING like an infant with superpowers because he didn't get his way?  Compared to the Evanuris, he's D List.  Rank Amateur.  Rookie.  These beings WERE immortal mages with nothing better to do than war for fun and make lakes of blood.  They couldn't even KILL the nicest of them (and Mythal has a rep for leaving pieces of people in trees, remember) and they have been waiting, trapped, and are probably just a LITTLE cranky by now.  Solas...has a plan.  He has a plan.  Considering his LAST plan went off without a hitch...yes, the BREACH...I have more than a slight amount of trepidation about his 'plan'.

Remember what Solas MEANS in Elhven?  PRIDE...and the opposite of Pride?  Wisdom.  To which I am noticing a severe lack of.  Seriously, dude?  Wear a hat.  All that sun and Fade is baking the egg, ya know?

Very well said. Everything you said.

Solas....dude....c'mon.

That would be awesome but since we already did some time traveling I wonder if they'll do it again. Maybe through the Fade?

If Arlathan is the Black City, visiting it would be interesting indeed.

I would presume for one it would be the surviving ancient elves, other than the group at mythrial's temple I seem to recall Solas there were other places where there were still ancient elves remaining that the elves at the temple could join up with. Other than that the dwarves would likely still be kicking and likely a few humans would surivive though the Avvar gods will likely be not amused at the deaths many of their followers and likely neither will the maker who's return has been foretold.

Now I want to see Hakkon raining glorious fire ice on Solas and his army.

"I am the cold wind of winter. Join me in battle and die."

Actually, now I just really want to see everything fighting Solas. Like Titans. All working together, even for a moment.

Maybe the Avvar gods will play a bigger role? JoH went very in-depth in Avvar culture and belief that it feels strange to not do with what was learned.

That's pretty interesting. The Avvar spirit gods do seem to have gotten used to the new normal and figured out how to coexist nicely with the Avvar. How they would feel about Solas returning things to the old ways would be interesting.

Its not really clear at this point who Solas means to survive this. It could just be the ancient elves, then again he's also including modern elves in his forces.

It's also not clear exactly how removing the Veil will kill everyone. I mean, will re establishing everyone's conscious connection to the Fade kill most people or is it just that the ensuing chaos of removing it will dismantle society and kill a lot of people? I don't know. But I don't think Solas wants to restore the elves because their his "Chosen" people or because he's a supremacist. Rather, he wants to restore them because he's the one that tore them down in the first place.

Idk if you romance Sera he makes a comment about Sera and the Inquisitor. Plus you get his disapproval for being in a relationship with her, and Solas only dates other Elves so idk if he is or isn't?

According to JoH's description, I think comparing to others, Avvars will fit quite well in a world without veil.

So... Will solas resort to blood magic if we come close to beating him in the next game?

Is that you, Ultron? Are you on the Internet again?

We're talking about mass genocide. You know the answer to that question.

He's certainly focused on elves, but that attitude doesn't seem to be based on an ideology of supremacy. More, I think it's because when he sees elves he can't stop thinking about what they aren't thanks to him.

Solas' plan is basically like this.  "My people's civilization was destroyed and my people were slaughtered and enslaved hundreds of years ago.  So...I'm going to destroy mutiple civilizations AND kill everyone in existence, including the descendants of my people, so I can bring back the people I essentially put in a prison."

Yeah, not that bad at all, if you're crazy.

I think they focused on fleshing out the Avvar because they realized they were probably going to head north with DA4 and this was their last chance to flesh out the southern barbarians.

It is like a social experiment. How many people sign up to genocide if the guy is warm, friendly and an egg head? I personally like the fact he is dishonest with half truths. So instead of mistrust he is greet with compassion and understanding. Kinda reminds me of a frog being slowing boiled (conditioning).

Someone on another forum pointed out that after Solas seems to take on Flemeth/Mythal's spirit in the endscene of DA:I, they then notice that he's wearing a Dragon Tooth around his waist in Trespasser, instead of a Wolf jawbone.

This implies he might be being controlled somewhat by Mythal.

I may be naiive or not up enough on my lore here, but I think Solas is bound to do Mythal's bidding somehow and couldn't change his mind now even if he wanted to (and he gives lots of hints that he doesn't like what he has to do now).

Oh you aren't alone. I've been posting that theory around the forum for a few days. If you drink from the Well he seems to nearly gives away he own experience being bound possibly to Mythal.

Dorian perfects Alexius' work and we travel back in time to see wtf went wrong?

We just have to find memories of it in the Fade, they are probably somewhere, no time travel needed.

I mean, in all honesty, is it? I mean everyone dying aside, would it actually be a better option in the long run?

Yes, it's really that bad.

If you read the information on the ancient elves, you can glean some pretty substantial hints toward their overall character.  I mean, Mythal was regarded--even by Solas--as the BEST of them, and you've seen what Flemeth was like!  Morrigan talks about her abusing men and slaughtering Templars and goodness knows what else.  I mean, the CODEX ENTRY on Mythal's wisdom was basically "hey you gods, instead of sending thousands of your followers to slaughter each other over a petty disagreement, just have TWO kill each other!"

The ancient elves may have had pretty things but they were UGLY people.  The Veil was the best thing that ever happened to them.

And think about this . . . the Mage/Templar war was largely kicked off by the discovery that Tranquility could be cured.  Except that the cured mage became volatile, unable to control his emotions . . . Solas indicates somewhat that all modern people seem like the Tranquil to him.  So what evidence does he have that getting rid of the Veil actually WILL restore his people?  It could just drive them completely insane!  Permanently!  It could, literally, destroy everyone forever.  He had no idea what would really happen when he created the Veil in the first place so I seriously doubt whether he has ANY clue what'll happen when he gets rid of it.  If you chop a man to pieces you cannot cure him by reassembling his corpse.  Some things you can't go back from.

Solas wants to "restore" the old world for SOLAS . . . because he feels guilt and remorse and thinks this will make everything back the way it was.  He's an ancient elven god, after all, and they lived in a world where if you didn't like something, you just fixed it with magic!  What he wants to do has NOTHING to do with actually helping ANYONE.  He is acting like a child who has not yet learned that actions have consequences.  It's not really surprising given his past (which is why my Inquisitor wasn't really ANGRY at him), but it's something he needs to learn.  Hopefully before it's too late.

And, of course, there's the whole "kill millions of innocent people" aspect.
