Make sure you have a top end staff, hakkon wisdom is ideal here.
Craft critical dmg up as much as possible, because 100% crit dmg isn't overkill. don't forget the power chord ring! (30% more dmg!!!!!!!)
When you get enough lvls, map every single button to power chord. Get encore/power of the dead/conductive current passives, to increase your dps output for power chord.
PROFIT.
Now, for some other trade secret tips regarding this class on higher levels.
At the start of each zone, start running up to mobs and spam power chord.
Forget about barriers, little knight music, etc, rather if you see enemies that are
Immune to electricity just let your teammates take care of it and hide. Who has time for that when your supposed to be power chording, support or barriers (even though you get more overall xp for doing so) are for mindless promotion peasants. Forget about picking up pots, opening treasure doors.
Remember, power chord dispels barriers, detonates, weakens the majority of enemies particularly darkspawn!!!!!!
There you go fellas, I just handed over the blueprint on how to be the best virtuouso on your console. You will be a rock star with this build. This is the same build most top players have jealously guarded in their hearts on xbox one but I, yours truly, drake have handed you the keys to success! Noobs will flock to befriend you and wenches will throw their under garments in your face now!
Remember,if you are unsure as to what to do: Power Chord!!!!!!!!
I did not make no mention on strategies for heartbreaker because 99% of the top players on console refuse to play it, so the rules don't apply. Who has time for hb, anyways when you can speed run through perilous/nightmare with Power Chord!!!!!

After 55 promotions and careful observations from my own playstyle and top promotion lords for the virtuouso, I've finally decided to spill the beans on how to play this class the way the devs and the promotion gods intended everyone to play it. I'm going to skip the basics on him, because well the basics of this class are the same as the advanced! With this build you can climb your way out of leader board mediocrity and claim rightful position among the gods of the promotion kingdom.
Nice intro /3
Has he stopped crashing games though?
(You might also want to throw some barrier/ Little Knight Music in there)

You might also want storm pact and physical immunity amulet (if you are one of the super lucky few). And have a barrier bot baby sitting you (saarebas or another bard) plus a reaver / archer to kill those who are immune to lightning. (Btw if you are looking purely for lightning dmg, AW does plenty of that already with storm pact...)
Speak of support for your power chord bard, it would be a sweet idea to pair up with another bard so the 2nd bard equip heart of pride for the sleep and tell him to spam support songs particularly MoR. NM combo all day long. No we don't need a rogue for KB anymore ![]()

Also the passive that increases your damage for each fire chord queued (power chord uses two). Infernal music I think it's called.
It's good to mix in the speed boost too to kill faster.
Also, as an aside, with a poor/mediocre host, powerchording will cause a lot of lag on FC, especially in zone 4.

While this is pretty much how I play the Virtuoso, there's several additional points worth pointing out.
1) Unless you have some ludicrous amount of Willpower promotions that you're literally one-shotting everything you come across, Power Chord spamming will run into mana issues. You need to weave in animation-cancelled auto-attacks in between to charge your mana here and there.
2) The armor buff song is far and away the most mana and time-efficient defensive buff for most of the situations you'll encounter. Take the song duration upgrade passive, and you get an immense survivability boost against physical damage for 12 seconds. Cast it once before you dive into a group of enemies. You will notice the difference in incoming damage.
I would actually go so far as to say that the Barrier song is very, very rarely worthwhile in comparison, especially since all Barriers got nerfed awhile back. 20% Barrier is a total trap. Why? Because it's horribly mana inefficient, it begins decaying immediately, and armor is not taken into account when you have active Barrier - no matter how much or how little Barrier you have. That last factor is key, because it applies to carryover damage that gets through your Barrier.
Let's say you have 10 points of Barrier when you take a swing that does 200 damage. It wacks through the 10 points of Barrier, which means there's still 190 points of damage - and that still uses the Barrier damage reduction calculation (namely, you get none.) You take that 190 points of damage straight to your health. In comparison, if you'd taken that blow on 170 points of armor, it would have reduced it to 30 points of total HP damage. (Yes, I know the damage formulas are slightly more complicated, this is just an example.)
Unlike the Keeper or Saarebas, who give large amounts of Barrier at a time, the Virtuoso is relegated to giving small chunks at a time, and is mana-gated. Because of how rapidly Barrier decays, a Virtuoso casting that song on people is far more likely to create situations where enemies hit a target with minuscule amounts of Barrier, and thus hit for artificially inflated amounts of damage against the party.
Barrier Song is a trap. You will boost your party's survivability far more with the armor/resist buffs, with far greater time and mana efficiency.

Snip.
You are absolutely correct. Also remember to get the Opening Set passive very early, to boost mana recovery.
