Well post IYSB you open up Crestwood, the western approach, the exalted plains, the emerald graves, Emprise du Lion and the hissing wastes.

Crestwood - the keep, still waters etc.

Western approach - It is as Crestwood tied to the the Abyss quest line but in addition there is the assault on Griffon wing keep, Still ruins and a darkspawn dungeon. Draconology does involve a fair amount of fetching but there isn't really a lack of Crestwood type quests.

Exalted plains  - Eastern ramparts, Western ramparts, Victory rise are the bigger forts on the plains. The entry into Fort Revasan is beset by an arcane horror, it is a small thing for the IQ but for Duke Gaspard's forces it is major. The riverside garrison is an interesting take on the rifts. Then there is of course the Citadelle du Corbeau.

Emerald graves - Argons lodge, Villa Maurel and the Veridium mines as part of the Freemen of the dales questline. Then there is of course the knights tomb and Chateau D'Onterre.

Emprise du Lion - Take back the Lion and claim Suledin keep. This is really the big thing in Emprise but there is also Valeskas watch, rumours of the Sulevin and last but not least breeding grounds.

The Hissing wastes - Sand and ruin with the last stronghold of the Venatori and the Tomb of Fairel. The wastes is full of space however, no less than seven camps, but you are warned by Harding.

So I really don't see the lack of fort takes or special quest like the big Crestwood rift.

Most of those quests where boring and where mot on the level of Crestwood. Exalted Panes is the only one and maybe Emprise simply for the long dungeon crawl feeling for that keep but Emprise is very boring until the end and outside a keep change, there's no big map changes like Exalted planes(forts and such being occupied by Orlais forces) and crestwood.

Graves while pretty is very boring outside the haunted Chateau. The Freeman was boring, Farebanks(or whatever his name was) is forgettable ect. Hissing Wastes was a waste of time and resources that could have been spent to make Emprise and Graves better hen it was. Only Crestwood, Planes and Western Approach are good and for similar reasons but planes mostly because like Cretswood there are real changes to the map. There is also only three keeps that you take, even though there should have been one in Graves and the Planes. In the end outside Crestwoods fantastic side mission, The planes map changing as you progress taking the keeps in the Approach and Emprise and the dragon fights, outside being pretty everywhere else was very meh.

*snip*

But I loved tomb-raiding in hissing wastes, it was a ton of fun, and connecting the stories was very amusing  ._.

Hissing Wastes was one of my favourite open areas. It wasn't cluttered with crap like the rest, and it had more of a real sense of exploration. And it's pretty.

Not sure it was a great fit with the overall storyline - works better when you've got some time to spare post-victory maybe - but it was enjoyable.

Resently I started a new playthrough and while switching between hunting for ram meet, fetching herbs and doing war table missions I could not help but think that the priorities about what the inquisitor should do in person are set very wrong.

At first, yes.  I don't think the Inquisitor actually comes into his/her own as a real LEADER until Trespasser, actually.  But it makes sense--during the rest of the game you're REACTING to the threat of Corypheus.  Your moves are determined by his moves.  At no point do you take the initiative--you just chase after him undoing his schemes until he's weak enough that you can kill him.  So, yes, for most of the game you're an "errand boy".

That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Yes, but so was the Warden. Though, I wI'll say DAO did a better job of covering that fact up and making it feel like my errands were meaningful.

Nah, Inquisitor actually gets sh*t done in the main quests. Hawke will always be the ultimate errand boy. He has almost no connection to anyone in Kirkwall and still has to fight all their battles.
