In the main game you have the option to chat with Solas about his journeys in the Fade and what he says about one of the spirits he encountered is this:

"I found an ancient spirit who had once been undisputed king of almost every land I had discovered. Like Pride or Rage, it was the Fade's reflection of a feeling. When I asked which one it was, the spirit faltered. 'They've forgotten,' said the spirit. 'There remains no word for what I was.' "

Reason I bring this up is because yesterday I finished going through Trespasser with Cole as a Spirit and he said some things that made wonder.

Cole : "When this is done, I will slip back safely, a Spirit. Someone is hurting. He needs me to remember who he is."

Cole's epilogue if he is a Spirit:

Cole returned to the Fade, saying that there was more pain coming and that he knew where Compassion would be most needed. He promised that his friends in the Inquisition would remember him...and that where the hurt was greatest he would help.

First of all, do you guys think the Dread Wolf is somehow this conquering spirit Solas mentioned as in the Dread Wolf is Solas + conquering spirit?
Second, do you think the conquering spirit is the one Cole intends to "remember?"

Solas is not a spirit. Why do people think that?

I always felt it was Solas Cole meant, and his words that implied Solas might have once been a spirit seem to connect.

Perhaps its the maker? At least I don't think it's Solas at all.

When does he say that? I don't have the DLC, so can't check for myself. And I don't suppose the Inquisitor can react to it?

Actually the Maker would fit the description. Not saying that who it is, but it would fit.

I'm not saying I think Solas is a spirit. I'm saying he may be what the Chantry labels an abomination and what the Avvar call a spirit guide or whatever I believe Ameridan also mentioned having a spirit guide. Maybe this conquering spirit is a part of Solas and what makes up the Dread Wolf.

It is one of the many things Cole says when you click on him outside the bar.

It cannot be Solas. 'Conquering' implies that it defeated all enemies.

To be frank, I don't think Solas could take on a Titan by himself. If I recall the one codex (without going in-game to read it) it took several of the False Gods to bring down a Titan.

Solas defeated the False Gods using the veil, he didn't oppose them directly. He didn't exactly 'conquer' them, he pulled a fast one.

The Dread Wolf says, "I did not lead a rebellion against immortal mage-kings without getting my hands bloody."
So I think there was more to it than Solas snapping his fingers, raising the Veil, and then taking a long nap. Just sayin'.

Here is that clip:

it seems as if spirits/demons rely on "concept"  of others to give it form/purpose and maybe even power.

Whatever this "Spirit King" concept was, it's all forgotten now and no longer exists in the waking world. At the very least nobody enters this spirt's domain in the fade any more

Thank you for posting the clip. :)

I'm not sure I understand what your point is about the spirit "concept" you mentioned.

Ozymandias one of my favorite poems. I figured out what kind a spirit it was a while back but I can't remember the word.  If I remember I'll share, I only forgot because I was thinking about this theory that the stories Solas tells are of fragments of the old gods, and that when he awakes he visits them. Wow, my memory is fading, I had a name for this spirit.

It was something close to despair for what the spirit is, and I also had a word for what it was. I'm not going to stress over it, if it comes back, good. No, not hubris, vanity, or hallow, anyway.

It seems that Cole is going to try and help a shattered spirit. If it is this ancient spirit, it could be important. Had I believed in my theory that the spirits Solas visited were fragments of the old gods, this one would of been Elgar'nan.

Shepherd, nobility.

I think it possible that the spirit Cole intends to help maybe this spirit if not a Titan or fragment of a Titan with in the fade. Then again even the unknown is possible.

Metaphors aside, there's evidence that the original elves were spirits who gave themselves corporeal form, a la Cole. I forget the codex entries, but several mention things about the elves "taking bodies from the earth" and that pissing off the Titans. In addition, and I think it's a Cole quote, he comments how (paraphrasing) "She asked him to cross over, despite his misgivings. He still bears a scar where he burned off his mark." If Mythal is "she", Solas fits this, as he was her protector initially, and he's got a little scar on his forehead, possibly from vallaslin.

Thank you. I wasn't familiar with Ozymandias. Very interesting.

Ah, thank you. I suspect that both this line and his epilogue refer to Solas and his plans, since Solas and Cole have always been close and it'd be odd for the writers to send our spirit buddy off after something new instead of involving him in the redemption arc they are no doubt planning.
