Feature request: Add a faction selector in the lobby settings, OR award different amounts of XP for each faction

Looking at how different the factions are in terms of enemy immunities, there's simply no way to plan anything unless you always carry a keeper or an elementalist in the team.

 

E.G. A CC Saarebas build sucks against the Qunari faction (you'd be better playing an Elementalist), yet is really good against Red Templars.

 

And some factions are simply harder than others. Qunari > Darkspawn > Everything else. Assassins with Spell Purge :wacko:

 

P.S. And while I'm at it, an incentive for players to jump to HB would be great!!

That's the whole point though as to why factions were randomized, if this was implemented into public lobbies than everyone or close to it will be choosing demon factions. Example: most pug hosts these days have farmed hakkon weapons by setting fc nightmare to frost and will most likely have an elementalist in the group to due to fire weakness.

I'd say Demons<Darkspawn<Qunari<Red Templars<Venatori
But yes we need to be able to choose our factions

Pretty much. I know I've wasted a couple of hours trying to get the random group. Just 1 more frustration the game needlessly adds.

The only thing that randomizing factions accomplished is to avoid balancing factions. If they can't be bothered to balance factions according to a common factor for a set difficulty, what are they doing all day?

Wavebend is right in saying there's a clear line as to what factions are easier and whose are harder.

Quinari > Darkspawn > Red Templars > Venatori > Demons

The Quinari are by far harder than Darkspawn because of their multiple immunities. They also have a lot more HP and Damage than they should. There's something very wrong when a Saarebas survives 8 Spike Trap at 9K each while shooting with a Hakkon Bow for around 5k (3 shots x 1.7K) in-between traps...

The Darkspawn are much harder than Red Templars because of their HP and Damage. The Bolters on Wave 4 were overdone a tad too much. I don't mind them, but they shouldn't be in such numbers to pin you down like they do. It's not normal someone at 80% range resist with a Lego can go down in less than 2 seconds if he doesn't have Walking Fortress active...

Red Templars are "hard" because of their range but compared to the 2 new factions they're toothless.

Venatori are still a lowly copy cat of the Red Templars. Everything they do, Templars do better. Except maybe locking you up between mines and Shield guys. I like how they diversified them with mages. I hate mages, I hate getting 32 mines under me in less than a second and insta-die, but I do like they made them somewhat balanced at relatively the same level as the Red Templars.

Demons... well I still don't understand why they're so weak. They've always been weak, by a very very very large margin at that. The only "difficult" thing about them was the Demon Commander, but now he's been "rectified" as he was ridiculously OP at the beginning. Sadly, the rest of the faction wasn't buffed to compensate. And when I say they should buff Demons, I'm not saying they should add 40 Despair demons... I think they should concentrate on the low tier units, when is the last time a Wraith (normal, cold or electricity) ever give you any trouble?

If Bioware doesn't want us to chose a faction, then they should at least have the decency to balance them so they are on the same level. Right now, we have 2 very OP factions and 1 very underpowered faction. The Templars and the Venatori are the most balanced in my opinion.

I haven't really tested it, but doesn't Venatori give more exp than Templars simply because there are more of them in each zone? During the last weekend challenge I noticed that my killstreak (on routine) against Venatori was higher than it was against Templars (I was soloing the same location). I wasn't paying attention to exp payout since it wasn't important at the time.

 

I have some time, I'll be back with some numbers... (give me like 2 hours) >_>

 

So far it seems every faction gets to about the same range of exp on routine Fereldan Castle (don't have to worry about zone variations) when soloing but the numbers aren't the same if against the same faction. That probably means my inconsistent killstreaks are messing up the results.

 

 

Perhaps someone else can do some tests with a bowman and avoid killstreaks. I've recently promoted both my archer and hunter, and I don't really feel like going back in.

As for those saying players will always select the easiest faction: If so who cares? If they enjoy the game more selecting demons and do not have as much fun aganist darkspawn then let them select demons.

 

I remember times from ME3MP where all the people avoided Collectors. But there were always players who liked the challenge especially on Gold or platinum difficulty ... Sometimes you like it easy somtimes harder. Or maybe you just have time for a quick game, you want to play SS and not be bothered by shield guys. so why not have it ? 

 

There are always players who look out for the easiest way to level up or gain something just to open their pants to show you their big, impressive and huge hakkon weapon. And they will always find ways and if they enjoy it that way I am happy for them and their pants. So let the rest decide how they enjoy the game.

 

I like all factions but somtimes I do not want to fight against faction xyz ... or I played the 5th game against the same faction and I´m just sick of it ;)

I'd also add my vote to being able to select the faction you want to play. And I don't mind if some factions are harder than others, though I'd also prefer there was some additional incentive to play to those harder factions (more XP, better loot).

I think rt is the easier faction then venatori then demons, those damn wraiths zap your guard massive amount when everything else takes down 1 bar in a couple of hits wraiths take 3 or 4 bard with every hit and then zap your health at the same rate ....

 

I agree about the qunari being stupidly hard, normal match is sub 10 minutes but qunari match is 20+, and then in zone 5 you get swarmed by 20 brute grade mooks as well as several assasins and a huge amount of spear chuckers that can block every attack chucked at them for over a minute all the while doing insane damage to you....

 

facing them on threatening is harder than doing rt's on nightmare

sure - the factions aren't balanced and maybe BW is too lazy to do so, who knows

 

I would love to be able to choose a faction - simply because maybe I want to work on a challenge (kill XY Darkspawn, kill XY Qunari) - kind of frustrating AND time consuming if you get Venatori 5 times in a row :angry:

The nice thing about the original three factions is that even if some characters are less effective, they still can contribute and the enemies don't have over the top health.

 

Then Darkspawn and Qunari came along with power creep - enemies become capable both up close and at range, have both high health and many immunities, things like that. All strength and no downside doesn't really make enemies fun.

 

Like Sha-Brytol Earthshaker. Powerful ranged attack that cannot be resisted, durable, immune to all effects. When you buy the Descent, you are not forced to face the Sha-Brytol in a new game at level 1 with few skills. But in MP, you can end up in a game with no skill to let you contribute even on the lower difficulties, and they have high health and frequent knockdown to drag it out and make it more tedious.

 

It is especially bad because they have immunities instead of resistance. You can get around immunities in SP because you are forewarned and have 8 slots, but in MP factions are random and you only have 4 slots, and sometimes even less because you just promoted, or are new players.

 

Faction selections would be really great. You don't want everyone ignoring the harder factions? Give players incentive to fight them. This is a grindy game after all.

 

More importantly, please stop the health and immunities inflation on enemies. Especially immunities. Look at the Qunari. Lightning reigns supreme while Ice and Fire staffs are resisted at every turn!

Yup. 99% of the playerbase would. 

 

Having thought about it.  Really should be up to the players.  Demon Hunters won't get the 5000 DS and Q kills done :)  Nothing wrong with choice.

Also the whole magic ignores armor stat thing. Templars have 1 magic user and he doesn't even use magic as his main attack.

On second thought, the Qunari is a little bit better than Darkspawn in design - the enemies are more versatile, but even the Spearman have their own little disadvantage of low-flying spears getting blocked by terrain.

 

Conclusion: Sha-Brytol sucks forever

Nm venitori, rt, qun are the only challenging factions. The jokespawn do little damage aside from the boss and as long as you prepare for knock downs it's over.

I do not agree with this. It's bad enough public is only frost dragons and the orleisian map... demons and dark spawn is all anyone would play.

yup, agree entirely, being able to choose faction, even if the host chooses the easiest faction, I highly doubt they'll roll the same faction over & over & over again, my personal record is 9 consecutive RT runs.

 

Please give us a choice Bioware.

Not everyone is 200+ (220+ ?) in every stat like you :P

 

I have lots of promotions too but I am guessing the majority of players do not.

 

Luke did talk about locking certain enemies to certain maps.  If that is close to happening it would solve that particular complaint while making people play other maps.  The only trouble I see with that now is here are 6 factions ....and 4 maps.

 

So probably not happening now :(
