I have been creating worlds, adventures and custom content for a very small group (8) since 2003.

 

I began my DM career assisting another DM with a world that was fairly big, and after lots of learning curves we were able to produce a persistent world that was almost entirely interactive; that is to say that besides resolving stories and creating areas, we as DMs alternated acting all NPC roles according to role scripts we wrote before game sessions. We produced custom models, textures, tiles, music, and pretty much any character item that was asked for or required for role play. It was completely driven by player action...

 

Sadly, our campaign collapsed after about 6 years - this was our fault. From there, most of us drifted away to other games.

 

But I never lost my love of role play, and although I don't love DND 3.5, this game engine is the high water mark for customization. I have been fiddling with it for many years, despite long personal breaks for Perfect World, Forsaken World, Guild Wars, and Guild Wars 2. All those games have great social elements, but have no control for individual members and their goals. It was frustrating for me but there were no other options.

 

Now, some of our group seek something more than pre-canned stories, and fixed results. We seek the camaraderie of a more basic group dynamic, with absolute control for the DMs to serve the players and the stories that they create. We seek players who are motivated and interested in role play, and the options that NWN provides for world makers. We are interested in a weekly, or biweekly RP game. This would be a completely player driven event, where 2 DMs control, build and play with an adult group of RP players, interested in a fantasy steampunk/gothic horror world.

 

Our original group is now no longer viable, and despite my efforts no one I know seems to be interested in this kind of thing. So I now turn my question out to the world of strangers and seek interest from the interwebs.

 

Are there any players here who still think this kind of thing is fun?

It's likely out there, somewhere. It just might be more difficult to find as the community is more scattered these days. I know I generally like this kind of thing, but don't always have time.

If you and your group are looking for a place to play I can offer over Avernostra. It's a custom setting. More Victorian Gothic than pure steampunk, but we do use some of those kinds of elements. For example we have firearms, and weird science is a plot hook in some of our games. We have about 4 to 7 players on nightly so it's a small, but fairly dedicated group of RP'ers already. I'm the sole builder/scripter for the server, and if you are interested in adding to the world as a builder I welcome the help.

Thanks for all the replies, and sorry for the delay in responding. We just moved and my computer was on a truck somewhere for the last while...

 

To clear up some confusion on a few of the PMs I got - I didn't mean 'adult themed' specifically (I think there was a pretty shmexy server called Amia or something that was pretty adult) so not like that, but perhaps an environment that is not suitable for younger people.

 

Sadly it looks like this project will be shelved for a bit longer as half of the people I was counting on are unfortunately having some serious family issues. And with a new house and all I will be a bit busy also.

 

Mad Poet - I will definately look at what you are offering. I might at least be able to make some content or assist you as time allows.
