Hi all,

I'm an Xbox One player who has just stopped playing ESO and I'm looking for my next online multiplayer fix.

I LOVE every bioware game ESPECIALLY Dragon Age. Seriously... When I get a pug I'm naming him Alistair. Haha just an example.

What I need to know is whether or not playing DAI multiplayer is going to keep me entertained for a while without aggravating me to the point it destroys my Dragon Age experience.

So I'm looking for a short review and honest opinions from people who play or have played it.

Is connectivity and lag an issue?
Is there lots to do?
Is it too Grindy?
Are lobbies easy to get into?
Are micro transactions necessary?

I have a habit of jumping into these things, spending a heap of cash and being severely disappointed.. So any knowledge you can pass on would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Been playing since launch, but really got into it and started grinding 2-3 months ago. Here's my experience :

1. Really depends on the host (I think). Have a friend whom I play with, when he's the host lags are terrible (You know who you are :P ), but when I host the game everything is A ok.
2. Yes, lots of grinding to do. If you manage to promote about 10-15 times, and not get bored, I bet you're gonna stay until your 100th promotion :)
3. ^^
4. Again, depends on the host. If you get disconnected often, try hosting your own matches and see what happens.
5. Not at all.

Hope this helps :)

Is connectivity and lag an issue?
Are lobbies easy to get into?

Lobbies are usually quite easy to find, but not always, and lag is often an issue. Really depends on the quality of your connection to the host and of your connection in general. If you do have a good connection, you should host.

Is there lots to do?
Is it too Grindy?

There is some situational variety in terms of characters/classes and gear, but for the most part the game is a grind to make grinding easier, and the amount of content added since launch really isn't that much.

Are micro transactions necessary?

No, and I'd seriously advise against it. The RNG involved doesn't even come close to justifying the prices.

Is connectivity and lag an issue?

It´s honestly much better then it used to be, but there are certain problems. Once in game, I don´t often experience lag per se(or only light one), but occasional crashes or unexpected disconnects are present.

Is there lots to do?

Basically, playing and promoting while trying to get better equipment.

Is it too Grindy?

It is pretty grindy IMO.

Are lobbies easy to get into?

I guess. At least for me, there seems to be decent amount of players so far.

Are micro transactions necessary?

No.

1. I had no real issue with connectivity. Maybe some minor walk-lag two or three times in total, nothing mire.
2. You have many beautiful maps and different enemy factions, but apart from that every run is pretty much the same. Became a little too repetitive for me.
3. You grind for materials to unlock new armors. That's pretty much all you do, so yes: A lot of grinding.
4. Lobbies are easy to access. Just search for one and then you're in.
5. Absolutely not. You can buy the chests, but they have the same random loot when you buy them with in-game gold.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone. I've just started my third play through on the story mode on nightmare with all the dlcs and then I shall dip my toes into MP and see how it goes.

As long as I'm not sitting there looking at a lobby screen for hours like Far Cry 4 I'll be happy!

Let's just hope my experience on DAMP is an enjoyable one. I just got out of the hell that was Elder Scrolls Online and I don't think I could pick up an Elder Scrolls game ever again. So for my love of Dragon Age's sake .. The moment it turns sour or I feel the need to rant on here I better take the disc out and play something else!

Is connectivity and lag an issue?   Sometimes.  P2P hosting. No dedicated servers.
Is there lots to do?  There is enough for me.  Many challenges.  Arguably not a lot of content.
Is it too Grindy?   Very grindy and I have absolutely no problem with this :)  Im a grind-a-holic.
Are lobbies easy to get into?   It's easy to create your own.  Really dependant on which region you live in.  UK is fine....until midnight (ghost town)
Are micro transactions necessary?  No.  Not ever.  Unless you choose to support game.

Do not spend real cash....  if you absolutely must then wait until you have been playing a few months and have a high loot score as you will not get anything "good" otherwise

Be careful.  You may just end up hooked for 9 months straight.

I've learnt it's best not to rant on forums because I end up looking like a psycho and no one really cares what I have to say anyway haha. It's easier to just pull the disc out of the console and sell the game. Less headaches for everyone!

I really do hope I get hooked for that long! I'm dying to nest with a good multiplayer game! I've tried Destiny, Warframe and ESO spent around $800 AUD on all (maybe more) and still wasn't happy.

It'll be hilarious if I realize that nest had been sitting literally infront of me for nearly a year.

Don´t get discouraged when you die shamefully all the time. I suppose now routine games will likely have people with decent gear, which will help, but you will die easily and you will have to manage with poor weapons until you get something nice. Don´t feel bad about it, that´s how the start is.

Good luck! :)

1. Occassionally, but those are very dependent on your location. Those outside the US tend to experience issues. If you are in Australia you might run into issues of "region-locking" where you only find matches with others around your geographical area.

2. Yes, there is lots to do, but...

3. It is insanely grindy. Nearly everything is RNG-based, and despite very recent attempts to give people higher-grade items the more items they've got from chests, I still get low level common items the vast majority of the time. If you played Warframe, imagine if there was literally nothing you could buy except the Warframes themselves and all the weapons had to be farmed by grinding.

The part I hate most is the promotion grind. I absolutely refuse to get into the absolute bore-fest of leveling characters up over and over again. That is just my personal opinion, and I obviously am very aware I am in the minority there.

That said, it's got enough variation in characters that this stay fresh for a while. Having people with which to play also massively helps.  :)

4. Public matches can be hard to come by depending on the difficulty level you choose and the time of day.

5. The microtransactions are a complete rip-off and are literally the exact opposite of necessary. One of the few good points of DAIMP, honestly.

Thank you! I fully expect to die a fair bit at the beginning... Especially starting now. It'll be like...

"Hi guys random group.. I'll be your dps for today and my bow will be shooting air. Air for everybody". Haha

My advice to you would be to find friends to play with, there should be quite a few xbone players around here. Pugging alone can be a very frustrating experience, especially in the beginning when you can't carry a team yet. And when you disconnect from a pug or crash to desktop, then that game is usually lost for you. In a private game with friends you still have the chance of reconnecting.

Friends can also help you get decent gear faster and thereby make your transition to higher difficulties a much smoother experience. Not to mention potential banter, coordinated teamplay and a lot of advice on how to play better. Just ask around here and I'm sure you'll find some people.

I'd be happy to run with a new player.

P.S.  I'm solid but not a promotion lord.

Yep, give it a try OP.

As for conenction, I also found myself lagging often when joining games, or other connection issues (back to menu, lost conn to DA servers...).  These days I just host, and since I have a good connection (50MB down) there is rarely any lag for players.  No on microtransactions.  As mentioned buying chests with money or in game gold amounts to the same.

If you do play, you will need to grind for sure.  Get all the gold you can in each run as you'll want to unlock as many Superb Requisition Chests (2000 gold) and eventually you start seeing the high level purples (say Lvl 23-26).

Also, save the materials as much as you can to craft the superb armors for your fav characters.  They surely help.  That said, as you receive greater weapons with open slots, you'll also need mats for crafting weapon upgrades.

The important thing though is to have fun.  If you're not, move on.

Welcome to BSN as well.  :)

Strangest thing is.... I lag spike more as a HOST ....

Friend even asked me to host so that he didn't lag.....

Is there even such a thing as host lag?

That said. Majority of my games are totally fine with no lag.

That has probably to do with the fact that when you are the host your computer work harder.

I don't think lowering the graphics quality will help with that (since the GPU mainly handles that), but shutting down other programs while hosting, might help.

My "other programs" would be the PS4 controller  , and I kinda need that :)
