All these topics about the Inquisitor being the main character of DA4. Only like a week ago the Inquisitor was boring and poorly writin. Now it is unthinkable to not use them again... And don't get me started on Hawke. Hawke was reviled back before DAI came out. Now Hawke is like the most beloved character ever. Just always amuses me how fast these things seem to change.
EXACTLY, hence why I am so baffled people want them to be the main protagonist in DA4 when its clear its not going to happen. Reading the responses had me confused when most people going by these forums said the inquisitor was boring.

I'm not sure people change their minds much , it's just different opinions.
I know I didn't mind not playing the warden again after Awakening and Witch Hunt.
I wasn't happy about Hawke though , because I was waiting for the "Exalted March" expansion , the story of Hawke wasn't done...the devs just couldn't make it , it got cancelled.
Then the Inquisitor , I love my Inqui more than Hawke and the wardens , I played a Dalish and the dude got his whole world turned upside down.
But with the devs telling time and again "tis the story of the world , new protag blablabla" well I thought there's no point in not moving on.
And then in Trespasser they throw a sequel bait with the Inquisitor , missing an arm but standing as the one stopping Solas.
Well you know what , I didn't ask for this.
The Hawke cameo in DAI was painful for me , and I ended up leaving Hawke in the fade instead of Strout because I just couldn't stand the butchery my pc was going through.
So yeah I'm not overjoyed about the Inqui probably being used as a minor OOC npc in DA4 , who will say "Solas is mine" ...and then will turn around one hour later and goes "I changed my mind , I have a date with Dorian , go kill Solas new pc , kthanks bye."
I'm just really annoyed.

I think it shows the difference in the writing between the main game and Trespasser. The prior ended up being disconnected in many ways (e.g. open world being very removed from the main story, recycled DLC villain etc). The latter opens up many different opportunities in future games, but people really want to see the Inquisitor x Solas story resolved with the two most integral characters in it.

Plenty of people like their Inquisitors -- it's just that people who aren't content tend to yell louder than those who are. I for one am far more attached to my Inquistor than I ever was to my Warden. But most of all I'm annoyed by the notion of them spending a whole game on setting up Solas and his specific connection to the Inquisitor -- at the expense of the smokescreen-story about Corypheus vs. Inquisitor and all the other plot arcs which they clearly never were invested in telling at all, to boot -- and then discarding that bond for entirely arbitrary reasons and have the story arc resolved by some random newcomer.

DAI comes out: I want to be Hawke again!
DA4 hasn't even come out: I want to be the Inquisitor again!
I'd bet my biscuits that by the time DA5 swings around, people will be clamoring for the return DA4's protagonist.

I've never gotten attached to video game characters quite as much as I did with 2 of my Inquisitors. This is prior to DLC's being released by the way. My main inquisitor is my favourite DA protagonist so far.
DA2 comes out: I want to be the Warden again!
DAI comes out: I want to be Hawke again!
DA4 hasn't even come out: I want to be the Inquisitor again!

you forgot something:
DAI comes out: Give me back my Warden!
DA5 comes out: yeah whatever, where's my Warden?!

I agree that I'd like to see Solas' story resolved with the Inquisitor. I'm not convinced that will play out in the next game, whether with the inquisitor or a new pc. The story might be completely different - more focused on the Qunari/Tevinter war. Who knows. They could drag this out to DA5. Mind you everyone would be pissed because we all want some resolution here; but who knows?

Speak for yourself. I enjoy having long-running loose plot threads. Makes the payoff all the more satisfying when it comes 2, 3, even 4 games later.

Heh I'm kind of the opposite, I thought and wanted for the longest time to have the Inquisitor as the PC next game but now after Trespasser I see his value as a NPC. BioWare just need to go all in and commit to it.

No, no, no.
Inq should not even make an appearance in the next title. I don't mind his actions and deeds being mentioned but I don't want him to just pop up ''because''. And I definitely do not want to play as him again.

Trespasser already sets up Inquisitor as a major character, so it's not "because"

As for the love the Inquisitor is getting now, its because Trespasser made the Inquisitor feel less robotic and mute, and express themselves like an actual person at least in Bioware standards anyway. But do I want them in the next game? Sure but are they needed for it? No

1) Hawke wasn't reviled, there are plenty of Hawke fans. There always have been.
2) I disagree that the Inquisitor was ever poorly written. The story was, at times, poorly told, but the character itself, OUR protagonist, has always been as good as the PLAYER can make them. They are always as deep and interesting as the Player is capable of imagining, beyond the scope of the game itself. The Inquisitor has more depth than prior Protags, and in some cases this is less desirable as some players feel it gives them less "creative scope" to use, because they feel their character has been "pre written" to be something: But I would disagree. the Inquisitor both has depth and intrigue and is flexible enough to fit into almost anyone's roleplay preference.
3) Do people want to see the Inquisitor in the next game more now? yes, but many of us already wanted to see them in the next game even before Trespasser.
4) Is it required for the Inquisitor to be in the next game? Not necessarily, but it would be a disservice imo to not have the option of playing as them available. Unfortunately, what we all need to realize and understand is that this is Bioware's game and they will make the Protag be as they feel the Protag should be. If they want it to be the Inquisitor they will make it be them, if they want it to be a new person they will make it be, if they want to give us options they will.
Remember that while Origins set the standard for getting to choose who you wold be and what race, after the initial story it basically stopped mattering, just like it does in Inquisition except for dialogue, banter, and response options. Same as Origins. Your race, ultimately, doesn't matter, and in the end is only referred to briefly in conversations.
Remember that Bioware then made the 2nd game be a singular option, either male or female, we were stuck as a human. The game basically played the same no matter what you did.
So many whine about the "lack of choices" or "lack of consequences" or whatever, but its been like this for all the games. The choices are vague at best, they have to be to let the series continue. The story of Thedas goes in the direction the Devs want it to, and the Protags will go in the direction the devs want them to.
Nothing changes, the vocal majority does. Or the threads you happen to be reading do. I've seen equal arguments both for and against the Inquisitor's return.
Seriously. Its nothing new.

Well I dunno about you but going out of DA 2 when I played it Hawke was my favorite RPG protagonist of all time. Miles above everyone else. Granted my opinion on the Inquisitor has recently taken a huge upswing but I still liked them throughout all of DA I and actually they did exceed my expectations given the Inquisitor was one of the things I was worrying about before DA I came out. That they would not be very hawkelike.
Speak for yourself. I enjoy having long-running loose plot threads. Makes the payoff all the more satisfying when it comes 2, 3, even 4 games later.
A-freaking-men.
