It makes me wonder why Solas was an elf-only romance when elves are basically shemlen to him.

I don't think Solas views the elves as humans, which is what that term means.

Some people tend to theorize that Solas wants to use time-magic to literally go back to the old days. I'm not convinced, but..

 

I REALLY hope not.  Not because the time travel thing, but it NEVER works.  It always makes things worse.  I know that they can put out a fire with an explosion.  However, HE is trying to put out a fire with a tactical nuke if he does that...actually, his plan pretty much RELIES on the tactical nuke scenario.  I'd prefer it in the FUTURE rather than the past...a little bit easier to stop.

 

I don't think he means the current elves.  Seriously, the guy basically tells a romanced Lavellan (who is apparently the love of his life) that she should prepare for the end.  Dude is willing to DOOM his girlfriend in order to save a bunch of elves that botched their shot already.  I'm sorry Zod, but Krypton...er...Arlathan HAD its chance.

That's because you're not the first Dalish he's ever met.

As Solas puts it, he is tired of being called a "fool" and "madman".
 

To be fair, after he divulged a portion of the truth, I have begun to agree with "fool" and "madman" for the first time.  Perhaps the Dalish will be vindicated in their dim view of Mr. "Destroying the world as we know it is the best way to make up for having destroyed the world as we knew it ."

I'm of the opinion that Solas sees current elven society, both dalish and city elf, as a wounded horse. He pities them, but he sees the only solution is to kill them to put them out of their misery. 

 

I don't agree of course, but I think that's how he sees it.

Showing up and telling the elves they know nothing, and he knows better because the Fade is not gonna convince anyone.

The first thing he does when he woke up was to plan the restoration of his world because he's homesick.
