So the end of the game has come, at long last, and I for one have decided on a canon Inquisitor.  Now I know many people like to wait to get a feel for the game or what not before they create a 'canon' Inquisitor.  My plan was to go through all four of the voice options before picking one of them and making them do a canon run through.  But, because all the DLCs are out and the game is effectively 'finished' I am probably gonna do my own canon run through soon, so I think its time to pick my canon, and maybe even share with the rest of you. :P Please do so as well. :)

If there are any spoilers for Tresspassers tag them and signpost them. :)

So here is my Inquisitor, Kara Trevelyan:

Spoiler

Bio:

  • 29 years old (In Tresspassers BioWare timeline)
  • Atheist.
  • Bow Rogue-Assassin.
  • Not politically inclined.

Reasons for being my canon:

  • She is a woman.  Being the 'Herald of Andraste' it feels better being a woman since Andraste too was a woman, and the powerful role of women within the Chantry at large.
  • She is a rogue.  Maybe not as fitting given Andraste has been hinted at being a mage and the current political situation makes being a mage maybe more apropo, but a rogue, is a woman of the people more or less.  And something which could also be fitting for Andraste in its own way.
  • She has the more compelling backstory.  Ben fit like a key into the events of the world.  He was a Circle Mage who was not against the system and ardently pro chantry.  Kara on the other hand was a rebel who constantly chafed at her responsibility.
  • She has doubts.  She doubts herself, her own ability, and whether he is the Herald of anything.
  • She has the much more compelling character arc.  Ben had one, he did grow into the role.  But Kara went from not knowing and even really disliking the role of Inquisitor and her own abilities and place in the world to embracing them.  She was not the most successful Inquisitor in the world, making plenty of mistakes early on, but she grew into it.  Still hating politics, but much more comfortable in the Game.
  • Wheras her arc really clicked for me and it was a joy to play her.
  • She has the much more compelling world state (one I might duplicate for the actual canon run? ) as a result?

thank you both. :)

You know story time about Kara on of the seminal moments of her character arc was the dialog option when she became Inquisitor.  The option was something like 'you chose me?' and Kara said "It was unanamious?" In a very shocked tone of voice.  This indicated to me that she was shocked people would trust her with authority.  this is a woman who has confidence in her own ability as a person.  But none as a leader.  She is fine being a lone wolf, a hunter, a survivalist, but it floored her that people would put her into a position of authority.  Hence the hating the role but growing comfortable in it, learning to embrace it.

her mistake, her big mistake, was having to exile the Wardens.  Because she slaughtered them at Adamant.  She did not give the Wardens who were trying to flee the chance to, instead demanding they surrender, she did not have Blackwall in the party, and did not have the proper knowledge, so she had to slaughter them there.  And she left Stroud in the Fade.  The Wardens were a shadow of their former selves and she had no choice.

Mage/Knight Enchanter

Atheist

Political/Diplomat

c49167c1-c74a-4b4f-992d-55e44aec2014_zps

She's my third elf and I just started the game with her. She's quiet, thoughtful and prefers to solve problems diplomatically. She didn't always agree with the aggressive stance her clan took towards outsiders and questioned what she was taught. She's atheist although she thinks the legends have some basis in truth. She jumped at the chance to spy on the conclave as she wanted to see what life is like outside her clan. She was raised by her father after her mother was killed in a hunting accident. Her father died several years ago after a long illness. She still maintains close ties within her clan.

During the game, she will choose diplomatic options when available and try to avoid unnecessary killing. For that reason, she does not hunt dragons unless they are endangering the local population.

-She romances Solas as she finds him to be a kindred soul and is fascinated by his unique perspective on the world.

-She will side with the mages and place Celene and Briala on the throne.

-She saves the chargers and unhardens Leliana who also becomes divine.

-She makes most prisoners agents of the inquisition as she believes they can atone by being useful. She kills none.

-She sends Blackwall to the wardens as she believes that he can best atone there.

-She makes Cole more spirit like as she does not want to change his unique nature.

-She saves her clan.

-Her closest companions, beyond Solas, are Cassandra, Sera and Dorian.

-She does not agree with Solas' plans and will try to find a better path.

-Sided with elven sentinals and drank from the well as she thought an elf should have the knowledge.

Here is the scene, (and her in action) for anyone who is curious.

OH and crap I wanted to add a major choices entry.

  • Recruited everyone but Viv.
  • Disbanded the Templar Order
  • Exiled the Grey Wardens
  • Kept Stroud in the Fade
  • Made Gaspard Emperor with Briala as his 'mistress'.
  • Didn't side with the Elven Sentinels had to kill them all...she is a bit rash.
  • Drank from the Well.
  • Cass Divine.
  • Hardened L (another early mistake)
  • Kept the Chargers.
  • Spared Rainier
  • Forgot what she wanted with the Seekers actually.
  • Didn't allow Dorian and his father to reconcile.
  • Kept Cullen off Lyrium.
  • Solved the House of Reposte thing by the quicker path.

I think thats it...will add more if I think of them.

Tresspasser SPoilers.

Spoiler

This is from her first play through remember.

Oh and for S&Gs, Relationship with companions.

  • A Team consisted of Dorian, Bull, Cassandra/ Sera, and then Dorian, Bull/ Cassandra, Sera, and then for Tresspassers Bull, Cassandra, Dorian.
  • Cassandra was her sister and her miror.  Someone who hated her family.  Like Kara.  Hated nobility.  Like Kara.  Wnated to do what was right and seek the truth.  Like Kara.  Yet someone who was a Chantry member.  Thus showing Kara she was wrong about the Chantry and really maturing her as a person.
  • Bull:  Had a bit of a crush on him and he was her body guard.  That is until he became too squishy to manage.
  • Sera:  Another sisterly figure but eventually they kept disagreeing, Kara loved her but they had a tense relationship.
  • Dorian:  Had a rather severe crush on him, but he was gay.  Still a treassured friend and confidant.  Able to make her laugh on a dime and protect her through thick and thin.
  • Cole:  Creepy son but yet it awakened her previous dormant maternal instincts.
  • Varric: Crazy and beloved uncle.  She did enjoy his stories.
  • Cullen: Her eventual romantic partner.  Loved her, found him so endearingly adorkable.

Alita Lavellan - I submitted her sliders to the sub reddit - https://www.reddit.c..._loosely_based/

I didn't go into detail for head canon like you did but...

Romanced Solas - I just think he is so well written and well it's definitely his story we are following. I enjoyed the game most this way.

Necromancer - Seriously the passives and walking bomb.... just too much fun

My team was Blackwall - 2h sword tank.

Solas - of course

Varric - So many play throughs I never used him, then all my files got deleted when my data went corrupt....(don't ask, much sadness) so I had re-start a new inky days before Trespasser came out. I decided I'd take Varric along. I really enjoyed having his banter.

I was on the fence about whether I was chosen by Andraste or not, which led to me being able to select dialogue options that I was truly her chosen. Not what I was going for but I did use it to pardon Ser Ruth.

I freed to mages to make Solas happy and to make it easier for me to put a hardened Leliana on the throne.

I saved the Wardens, much to Solas' dismay, sent stroud to his death.

Morrigan drank from the well, her son had the old God soul removed by Flemeth.
At the end, I told Solas I wanted to go with him. That I'd find a way to work it out or whatever the choice was - I didn't threaten to hunt him anyway.

I decided to keep the inquisition. I mean I've got Leliana in my pocket on the sunburst throne, I now know that the Qun and Solas have spies all through out the inquisition.... why would get rid of it when I know where they all are. I am pretty sure knowing this, Leliana can help use this to our advantage with false info etc.

Edit: Great topic btw :)

Debating over my Lavellan or Trevelyan.

You know its kind of funny the two most canon from just a random selection goig into it would probably be Lavellan because Elves/ Solas and a female Trev cause human + Andraste.

Debating over my Lavellan or Trevelyan.

ha!ha! I have a Trev I'm playing right now. Love her, but she's making different choices in the game than my cannon so I can see the content. Sides with the templars, romances Cullen, allows chargers to die, lets Morrigan drink from the well, etc. Her personality is more out going and sarcastic than my Lavellan and she's more impulsive. But she's still kind.

Thancen Trevelyan (no screenshots unfortunately, I'm a savage)

Bio:

  •  31 Years old as of Trespasser
  • Andrastian
  • Warrior - Sword & Shield - Templar
  • Not really politically inclined, just doing what he thinks is best.
  • Like Humorous Hawke, Thancen tries to insert jokes and sarcasm whenver humanly possible.

Minor Head canony things:

  • Thancen milked the 'Herald of Andraste' stuff for all its worth.  Not because he is drunk on power (he just likes the way it tastes), but because in the long run, he agreed that having a person to rally around in tough times is sometimes the best way to make it through those times. He is very faithful however, and was contemplating joining the Templars. He is however very open minded, and understands that there may be things in regards to the Andrastian faith that the Chantry has gotten wrong or may only be half of the truth.
  • He has a complicated history with the mages.  During the unrest amongst the mages, his sister, who was part of the Circle of Magi in Ostwick, become vulnerable to and was possessed by a demon.  He is ever sympathetic to the mages plight, but understands the danger they pose.  He swore that he would never allow that to happen to anyone else again, and began the process of joining the Templars up until the explosion at the Conclave.

Major decisions:

  • Recruited everyone.
  • Romanced Cassandra
  • Conscripted the Templars and the Grey Wardens.
  • Left Loghain in the Fade (Can't kill myself, so I killed the father-in-law instead)
  • Made Celene, Gaspard, and Briala work together
  • Sided with the Elven Sentinels
  • Let Morrigan drink from the Well.
  • Leliana is Divine. She is also softened.
  • Kept the Chargers.
  • Spared Rainier/'Blackwall'
  • Helped Vivi with getting the Snowy Wyvern's heart
  • Allowed Dorian and his father to reconcile.
  • Kept Cullen off Lyrium.
  • Solved the House of Reposte via Leliana's suggestion.

Trespasser Stuff

Spoiler

Relationships with Other Characters

  • Parties usually consisted of Varric/Cole, Dorian, and Cassandra/Iron Bull.
  • Cassandra: Thancen's love interest. Encouraged her to make the Seekers better than they were.
  • Iron Bull:  Best pal #1
  • Sera:  That one friend that is annoying at times but actually makes really good points.  Kinda like a little sister
  • Dorian:  Best pal #2
  • Cole:  The creepy but insightful friend. Always took him with me into places where that insightfulness would come in handy
  • Varric: Best pal #3.
  • Cullen: War buddy.
  • Solas: Felt that Solas was a bit prickly at times, but enjoyed his history lessons.  They were friends up until the events of Trespasser.

Trespasser spoilers under the cut.

128446ARAKAN.jpg

Name - Arakan Lavellan

Age - 34 years old when the breach opens, 36 after Trespasser

Archer assassin

80% secrets, 20 % diplomacy

Quick background: This guy was born as a city elf, and joined the Lavellan clan when he was around ten (his father wanted to escape justice after some petty crime).  His mother left and went back to the city life a few months after that (forest life was not her choice and her husband temperament was a bit too much).

His father died a few years later (an infection, and no proper medication). His mother had a daughter with a human. His half-sister is now in her mid-twenties, with human children. As for Arakan, he never fully blended with the Dalish.

The guy:

He is a "non-elfy" elf, in Sera's words. He blends well in diverse cities and prefers human clothes and hairstyles. He even chose a discrete vallaslin.

That's why he was sent to the Conclave in the first place. Plus he never was a good hunter, so no big loss for the clan.

He is not Dalish, he is not a city elf, he is not a human. He is estranged everywhere, and this ruled a lot of decisions in my playthrough. He is soft spoken and polite, as a facade to ease some ruthless choices he makes

710402ScreenshotWin322574Final.png

- Grey Wardens fanboy: he's always envied their sense of community. He admires (romanticises) them and would have joined them at some point if he hadn't crossed Cassandra's path. Exiling them was out of question. And Hawke had to go.

- best pals: Sera (he gave her a home in Inquisition,

Spoiler
, Solas (father figure, cool dude with no hair, knows everything), Vivienne (a self-made woman, and the elegance)

- faith: a little bit of everything. He is okay with the Maker. He is okay withe the Creators. The more the merrier. He never says he is the Herald of Andraste (he doesn't think he is) but he doesn't deny it out of interest for the Inquisition.

He doesn't lie (... but he does love omission)

Spoiler

- Leliana is the new Divine. He thought Cassandra was more fit for the job, but did not believe it was his role to intervene. Plus Leliana wanted it, while Cassandra didn't (she would have done it out of duty, he wanted her to be happy on her own terms). He will miss his Spymaster though, as secrets were his favourite course of action.

- recruited the Mages, but when I replay him, I will chose Templars. Magic freaks him out a little, because he was never exposed to it before.

- Dorian helped with it though.

- he hungers for knowledge even if he could not read well at the beginning of the game. Josephine helped. He uses history and culture in his conversations. Not magic though. That stuff is weird. He lets the mages deal with it.

- the anchor terrifies him

- at the end of the game, he is in a pretty disastrous mood.

Spoiler
but he is now one angry elf.

I guess I can show pics. Most people know what my Trevelyan who is 30 (32 in Trespasser) very pragmatic, devout Andrastian, very political, is sexually attracted to templars, and has a tunnel vision

DragonAgeInquisition2014-12-2119-53-51-8

Lavellan (who is mostly based on FluffyNinjaLlama's elf) who is 21(23 in Trespasser) a little naive, young and does not really know what she wants but wishes to be a champion for her people.

My canon inquisitor Jaeghar Trevelyan. I've worked so much on him that I am just unable to play another male inquisitor after him. So If I need to play DA:I again, either I recreate him or play with a female inquisitor if I feel I need to play another personality. =)

Pics of what he looks like :
Spoiler

Bio : Jaeghar, Trevelyan
Spoiler

- 29 years old in Trepasser, two years after.
- Warrior, sword and shield, Reaver !
- His friends : Dorian, Vivienne, Sera, Cassandra, Josephine, Cullen, Leliana, and Iron Bull
- Those who have an ugly relationship with him : Solas and Blackwall, otherwise he is fine with the other folks.
- His companions forever and closest friends : Sera, Vivienne and Cassandra + Dorian :
- Love interest : Josephine.

His major decisions :

- Allied with the templars. He has many cousins among the templars, his family is heavily tied to the chantry, and since he was born he has always been told that the templars were a great order, so obviously, he trusted more the templars.
- He didn't hesitate to leave Hawk in the fade and saved Stroud for the sake of the warden. Hawk meant nothing to him, while Stroud was just everything for the future of the grey wardens. He was just being pragmatic. Also Jaeghar has a great and romantic respect for
them and their big fight for humanity.
- So obivously he also kept the warden in Orlais and as allies of the inquisition
- He put Gaspard on the throne and sacrified Celene. He trusted more Gaspard to do what was necessary to fight the threat that was Corypheus and to lead Orlais as a strong and stable ally.
- Drank himself the well of sorrow, because he didn't want Morrigan to keep for herself a possible important knowlegde needed for the inquisition and because he could also gain more power for himself. He was ready to risk his life.
- Helped Vivienne to be the new Divine ( and she is ). She is her best friend, he thinks she is amazing and would make an amazing Divine, and they both share the same opinion very often on many things ( except the grey warden obviously ) . Jaeghar also thinks that a Divine mage is the best way to definitely make understand to the world that mages are also the children of the Maker, could do good for Thedas as a high authority and also to improve their lives in the long-term without sacrifing safety.

Major decisions with the companions :

- Cole made spirits. Jaeghar has always treated him as such and he thinks it's a good thing the young man wants to help.
- Sacrified the chargers ( though my inquisitor hates the qun  ), it was a political move, and the chargers meant nothing to him, while an Alliance with the Qunari could mean everything. ( I like to think that it is his biggest mistake, since he will regret that choice in trepasser )
- Helped Cullen to stop Lyrium. Jaeghar doesn't like at all addiction and has a strong respect for the choice of the templar.
- Helped Cassandra to rebuild the Seekers.
- Didn't help Sera, made an Alliance with the noble she wanted to kill instead. Sera is one of Jaeghar's best friend, but that doesn't mean he is willing to let her do anything especially if it can serves his interests.

For Trepasser, I'm still not sure what my inquisitor would choose...
