Darius Cadash
Age: 26 at beginning of game
Religion: Worships the Stone
Class: Warrior (Sword and Shield)
Background: Darius Cadash was always a showman. From a young age, he was quite literate and cerebral, loving to spend time with books, history, and learning. His family, being high-ranked Carta members, found such a thing peculiar: They never encouraged it, he only had to continue in the family business. This talent of his became quickly apparent when he served as a buyer for fancy surface goods for dwarven houses: Surface skills, wines from the Chantry. He could charm and marvel many in different walks of life, which was a very useful skill. There are many clans in the Carta, and charm was the way to keep, and steal, new clients.
He held a deep reverence for the Stone, and kept serving as the buyer for goods, in part, because it let him go to Orzammar so many times. He believes he is worthy of the Stone, and that she, not the deshyrs, will determine who returns to Her.
He learned swordsmanship, as danger in that life was an all-too-common occurence. He did decently, but he much preferred diplomacy and to manage finances. The mage-templar rebellion could be best summed as "Enough sodding coin to turn your blood to sovereigns, salroka." When the Carta learned about the Conclave, they sent him there to spy on the preceedings, knowing how much it would affect the lyrium market. He didn't really want to do it, but he was the best suited for such a diplomatic role.
Immediate aftermath
Darius was greatly distressed when he discovered the strange mark on his hand, and even more when he learned the Conclave was destroyed. He reacted quite calmly to Cassandra's interrogations, being used to questions from inquisitive guardsmen. Although he had no caring for the divine writ of Justinia, or this so-called "Herald of Andraste" business, a world full of demons would be a terrible thing, and that mark was the only way to solve the problem. So he served, secretly enjoying the prospect of helping the refugees in the Hinterlands, and marveled at the many monuments, astraiums, and other little wonders he never got to see while constantly on the move in the Carta.
Val Royeaux
Darius had always liked the templars: His primary duties were to Orzammar's houses, but everyone learns the lyrium trade. Besides, templars would often share an interesting story while they obtained their dwarf dust. He had hoped to make contact with the templars in Val Royeaux, but the Lord Seeker denied it. However, he watched Ser Barris dissent, and, after talking with Cassandra, figured they might make a better attempt scheduling something with Josephine. This plan was put on hold when Grand Enchanter Fiona offered an alliance. He agreed to hear her out, but when he went to Redcliffe, Fiona seemed to have no memory of the event. While a Tevinter mage told him about time magic, that sounded completely outlandish to him. Further, from his reading of magic, he figured that templars surpressing the Breach would be more successful then randomly dumping magic into his Mark. So he reached out the templars.
He performed the ritual honoring the templars first, and then the people, figuring the templars would respond better to it.
He fought ferociously alongside templar brothers and sisters when he saw the red brethren. He fought Envy in the Fade, and came out all right, saving Barris and the other templars. With so many of their leaders killed, and the lack of questioning causing so much trouble, Darius disbanded the templars
Darius took care of the people in his charge, an old adage from his Carta clan days. When the soldiers went missing in the Fallow Mire, he went for them immediately. He also demanded the Blades of Hessarian answer for the deaths of his soldiers, and figured taking control of the band would be sufficient recompense.
He saved all of his compatriots at the Battle of Haven, and was moved a bit by Mother Giselle's stirring song. He declared that a dwarf would lead as Inquisitor to end all of the violence and stop the crazed "Elder One" and his lieutenant Calpernia.
He moved through the Hissing Wastes and rescued Gaspard's and Celene's armies from the walking dead, and retook the Emerald Graves, placing it in the hands of Lord Fairbanks.
After this, he took to the decadent life of Halamshiral like it was a second skin, although he didn't particularly care for it. He wanted to help Celene, given that the Empire did seem to run fairly well under her. However, when he realized how weak she was as ruling, how many she slaughtered on a whim, and how she put the people of her empire at risk, he figured she was better off dead, and placed Gaspard on the throne. He briefly considered an alliance with Briala, but when he learned she tried to kill an innocent elf because of her past, he decided she was no better, and let Gaspard execute her. In the last bit of cruel irony, he sentenced Florianne's remains to be the guest of honor at the first annual Pinewood Festival.
After meeting Percival Hawke, the mage upstart, the two went to Crestwood, where Darius seized Caer Bronach and rescued the down from the undead. Together, he and Hawke met Ser Jean-Marc Stroud, a noble Grey Warden whom Darius immediately respected. They agreed to meet at the Western Approach.
Darius went there, not before seizing Griffon Wing Keep from the Venatori and stopping Servis's mining operation, recruiting the mage as a smuggler. When he returned to meet Magister Erimound, Darius was livid, and ordered the assault on Adamant Fortress.
The battle was fierce, but Darius managed to save several Wardens. The Fade was a terrifying place, but Darius saw through the fear and made it home, but not when Stroud bought time for everyone else to escape from the mountain-sized spider demon that was the Nightmare.
He then traveled to Emprise du Lion and rescued the villagers from the red lyrium mines, seizing Suledin Keep from the red templars.
He was enchanted by the Hissing Wastes, and loved learning so much about Paragon Fairel, and learning the magic he kept sealed away.
In the Arbor Wilds, Darius wasted no time on silly magical rituals: There were real people fighting and dying in battles outside. He slew the elven sentinels with no hesitation, just as they tried to do for him. While he didn't trust Morrigan at all, he knew that the magic within the Well contained a very real geas, and let her drink from it.
In the Frostback Basin, Darius was charmed by the simplistic culture of the Avvar. While he figured learning about the first Inquisitor was not very important, having a secure sight for resources was important, and once they learned that the Jaws of Hakkon were a force to be reckoned with, they had to be defeated.
He jumped at the opportunity to go into the Deep Roads, and was deeply intrigued by the ancient dwarven wonders. He didn't know what to make of the Titan or of Valta. But Orzammar was safe. and that was important to him and the Inquisition
