I'm all for having fixed points that trigger banter, but I'd rather have companions simply start taking at those points. It'd feel much more natural than "Dorian, say something funny!".

DA:A had those 'manual banter spots' as well. Probably has something to do with the need to pack lots of banters into relatively small piece of content. Also, manual triggers guarantee that it does fire when it should (unlike main game random banter checks) And DA2 Legacy had several 'banter spots' which were easy to miss\avoid.

I think the banter balls work well in Trespasser. Makes sense within the mechanics of the DLC. And yes, Patch 10 did make party banter more reliable in the main game. With my next play through I will experience more of that I'm sure.
