Whenever I read strategies for fights like this, half the responses amount to "lol easy". And then I play it and something like this happens:

 

 

Anders and Velanna were at full health and got one-shot by an ability that by all appearances is a frontal cone attack at best. And you'll probably say, "Well, move them behind the dragon instead." But this happened directly after the dragon reappeared after its wisp phase, so I didn't have time to move them.

 

And strangely, Nathaniel was standing in the exact same spot and didn't take any damage at all. What the heck is going on here?

Actually, upon further inspection, they may have been killed by that ball of light. Either way, I never saw it coming.

 

I guess I'm not a dedicated enough player for fight like this. I can complete 99% of the game without a problem at all, but I get absolutely creamed by this dragon every time. It doesn't seem doable without a ton of preparation (finding electricity resistance gear, salves, runes, etc.). I don't have time for that.

 

I hate the dragon fights in Origins, honestly. My tank barely ever gets to do anything except get batted around. The dragon fight in Dragon Age II was much more fun for me.

You don't have max magic resistance by that point?
