The ending says that a lot of Elves were leaving to join the Dread Wolf? Why would they believe Solas to be who he says he is?

That's like somebody walking around calling himself Jesus and we should believe him just because he says so.

Solas: "Hey guys wanna see something cool"

Elves: "Okay...."

Solas: "BAM" *opens eluvian portal to magical realm of ancienty elfy goodness*

Elves: "oOooooooOoohh..."

Also, him having helped save the world from Corypheus probably helps his street cred.

Some of the elves in Kirkwall joined the Qunari for the glimmer of a better life; it's possible some disenfranchised elves in Tevinter and the Andrastian kingdoms might join Solas because he offers hope when there is none.

Solas controls the eluvians, which goes to a place that is fit for elves. He's not a guy just walking around saying he's the Dread Wolf or whatnot/

He seeks to restore the old elven glory which is basically what most (dalish) elves are trying to do.

A super powerful mage elf comes along that is proven to be a deity of yore that is promising to rebuild the ancient empire of your people and restore you and your kind to glory.

Yeah, why the hell would they follow that guy

Same reason the Venatori would follow the grandstanding darkspawn who would have reclaimed the glory of his old Empire via the path of extreme destruction?

Or the same reason the Red Templars followed Lord Seeker Lucius in his plan to destroy the world to make it better?

Or the same reason the Grey Wardens would sacrifice their own in blood magic rituals to raise a demon army....

Nevermind, I don't want to be redundant.  It boils down to desperate people preyed upon by lunatics offering a glimmer of false hope.

It would make more sense for them to follow Solas if his tearing down the Veil would actually empower and elevate and uplift ALL the elves, not just those ancient ones.

He gives them hope for a future where Elves are returned to their former glory and a restored Elven world. Undoubtedly many of these Elves feel this a cause worth fighting for, even if it means giving up their lives in do so.

In truth, many of these Elves don't have much going for them in this world anyway.

The Dread Wolf is basically Elfy Satan. I don't think he'd spreading the word that's who he is.

Err... I don't know about the rest of you, but if I was a mistreated, abused slave and someone just like me but extremely powerful offered me a way out - a way to be free, I would take it in a heartbeat.

The elves who aren't slaves might also follow him because they want their culture back, and Solas is the only way to get it. Or because he's their last remaining 'God', so they'll do anything for him. (Even if Fen'Harel was a 'bad guy', he's still their bad guy.)

Really, the better question is if you were an elf, why wouldn't you follow Solas? It's essentially choosing between dying in slums/becoming enslaved or fighting for your freedom and achieving immortality.

Keep in mind these are reasons, not excuses. I would still think much more highly of an elf who sacrificed their own well-being because they knew following him would mean death for many innocent people than I would one who didn't, but I'd certainly be able to understand why.

That's a great question. Sera is an example of city elves who would be skeptical of a self-proclaimed saviour or god and would refuse to abandon her life to follow him.

In her own words, 'Like that Solas: We'll never be as good as we were. Well, who's we? I'm fine.'

I'm not a fan of Sera, but there's no denying that, despite her childish behaviour, she's a lucid person, more lucid than most elves we meet in the game.

Because it seems to be an integral part of the writing formula. "Bad stuff happens because people to stupid things."

Can't wait to see how they'll pin that one on humans/Andrastians/Templars/Chantry/whomever when it all goes pear-shaped...

Some of the elves in Kirkwall joined the Qunari for the glimmer of a better life; it's possible some disenfranchised elves in Tevinter and the Andrastian kingdoms might join Solas because he offers hope when there is none.

"Hey elves, are you tired of having your homelands [Elvhenan and the Dales] invaded and taken away by humans?"

"Yes!"

"Are you tired of being enslaved and oppressed?"

"Yes!"

"City elves, are you tired of crimes against elves by humans being ignored or rewarded, being paid dirt wages for scut jobs, being forbidden from finding a better way of life like joining the army or the priesthood or nobility, and seeing your homes burned down if you try to leave the impoverished alienages?"

"Yes!"

"Dalish, are you tired of being attacked every time you wander too close to human villages, being labeled heathens and savages for rejecting the human religion, being hunted by Templars, and being forced to move around since humans refuse to grant you land of your own / honor their promise to grant you land of your own [if the Dalish Warden got the Hinterlands as a Royal Boon]?"

"Yes!"

"Do you want a homeland of your own, where you can decide your own fate and enjoy the freedoms and higher qualities of life denied you under the humans and Qunari, instead of settling for whatever scraps humans throw at you?"

"Yes!"

"Then look no further."

Can't wait to see how they'll pin that one on humans/Andrastians/Templars/Chantry/whomever when it all goes pear-shaped...

Well, centuries of conquering, enslaving, oppressing, disenfranchising, and committing hate crimes against elves doesn't exactly inspire loyalty.

A very powerful being comes in, sympathizes with the plight of your people, and says he plans to crush those who oppress your people and to offer you and your people a paradise (or at least, a world closer to a paradise than it is currently).

I can easily see Dalish and City Elves flocking to him, whether they believe him to be the Dread Wolf or not, and if they do, then they have probably decided to drop the negative interpretations of him or just stopped caring and want the new world.

Edit: Of course not all Dalish or City Elves will follow him, not all Dalish are the same and not all City Elves want the destruction of the World and many may look to the Maker for their paradise, not a "false prophet."

Most Elves who are not Dalish have 0 education, probably can't spell or read, are not versed in the legends of the Creators or even really have that firm a grasp on what Elvhenan was like. Even some Dalish are probably about as ignorant about Fen'Harel as City Elves. What they have been is treated like animals by humans and living in squalor eeking out a living on the fringe of society and struggling to just survive, not to mention a high chance of being taken advantage of or killed. Then some movement comes along and promises a brighter future, and all it takes is to stop some Qunari saboteurs and help some enigmatic guy calling himself Solas (from the Insquisition who brought me blankets!) and Fen'Harel (a concept you have like vague qualifiers for). Plus Eluvians and whatever else Solas' has up his sleeve tantalizing in their miraculousness. Solas and his movement would seem so magical, so foreign, and so enticing. Their headquarters is probably some awesome Elven Ruin, as Solas knows a lot of awesome fixer-upers (skyhold, that fort in Tresspasser).

A Dalish might, just might, question trusting the God of deception, and honestly I think Solas disliked the Dalish because their opinion of him stung a bit too much. But even then, the promise of past glories and an end to present hardships would be a hard offer for any to refuse. Though I'm holding out hope for some Dalish being like... never trust promises from the God of deception.

I mean, Solas played the Inquisition like a fiddle, and those were the best of the best. Even Leliana was duped. How would desperate Elves not fall victim to his world-destroying machinations?

its because he's bold, The shine of his chrome dome is irresistible to the lady Elves. Plus he is dressed like Lady Gaga in trespasser so like any celebrity he will have blind followers.   :D

The Dread Wolf is basically Elfy Satan.

Not really, more like a mix of Loki+Prometheus. He's a rebel and protector with good intentions, which was remembered as a trickster and manipulator (which he certainly is)

As for the question itself, I don't think that Solas is fool enough to give agitation speeches, and neither I think that sharing his identity and secrets with each and every servant he uses is any good idea (at this point).

It's more like 'I've heard that the other elf heard from the other elf, that one of the servants claimed to be a spy of the powerful good guy who is all like helping us, and it's not like we have much to lose anyway'. If the history had showed us anything, it's that Elves are really good at following somebody.

That's basically true in reality, yeah. But to the Dalish, he's basically elfy satan who screwed them all over when he sealed their gods away out of spite and lulz. I can't see the elves following him if he's going around claiming to be the Dread Wolf. Does the epilogue actually say he's told people he's the Dread Wolf? He could just be recruiting them all as Solas.
