I usually dont say anything... but this.. i just have to say...

So i have to save the world, because some idiot with godhood aspirations made a mistake long ago.. miscalculated and failed..
and now wants to correct it, restoring his world.. by destroying my world ?.

Okay.. i spend 100+ hours to save the world... only to find out that one of my companions wanted to save HIS world long ago,
but miscalculated and failed... destroying it instead... sound familiar ?...

So in order to correct his mistake he has to destroy my world to restore his world.. and now i have to save my world again from
some idiot with godhood aspirations that failed his first mission long ago... and now wants to destroy my world to make up for it ?...

Sounds familiar...

But i cant..

Because in saving it the first time... i lose everything, including my arm... only to get 6 options to save my organisation,
well.. it looks like 6 options but are actually only 2 options.. (sounds familiar ?...)
to save my organisation from the very people i bloody saved in the first place... ungratefull dogs...

How is this all going to make me feel good playing this game ?... give me a sense of acomplishment when i am done ?...

Make me feel i won ?... something...

Or at least make me feel good doing whatever it was i was doing ?.... isnt that what games are all about ?... make you feel good ?..
If i want **** to happen i cant do anything about, all i have to do is stay in reality...

Whats the point of playing this game ?... if the end leads to the beginning ?... "like a dog chasing its tail ?..." i mean..
This game looks great... it is fun to play.. but in the end it is completely pointless... and leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth...

It puts me off big time... its replayability value is zero.. and all my choices amount to exactly ****-all....

Wait.... Is this a Bioware game ?... Sigh.. that explains it all...

Really, I thought most people played an RPG (Role Playing Game) to escape reality.  It's the same as reading a good book.  If the game (book) is any good, you will escape reality while you are playing (reading) it.  DAI doesn't do that for me.  Way too many boring side quests.  If they wanted to give us a Bioware Skyrim, they should have told the story and let us clear dungeons, way more fun than boring side quests.  One of my favorite parts of DAO was the deep roads.  Now that game helped me escape reality.

"Escaping reality" does not have to mean "sunshine, bunnies, and big rock candy mountains."

Have you even seen the epilogue slides at the end? I'd say what I do in the game matters a lot.

Well, for me games are for having fun.

Do I have fun when I save the world, accomplish everything I wanted and all ends in the beautiful sunset? Of course, if it's well made.

Do I have fun when I save the world, but a new threat replaces the one I defeated and I feel like I accomplished nothing? Of course, if it's well made.

Do I have fun when I think I save the world, but in the end I'm the reason the world became an even worse place ? Of course, if it's well made (Dark Souls, Shadow of the Colossus).

Happy endings can be great and fun, but thankfully they aren't the only concept being used.

Forty four ellipses, zero complete sentences.

That is the only thing that really amounts to "****-all..." here.

Actually, I like the way you tied the various parts of Dragon Age's story together thematically. It's in broad strokes, but still, very interesting. Every now and again someone with the power to do so thinks themselves wise and righteous enough to tear the world apart in hopes of making it better, but is unable to control change itself and, depending on your perspective, fails and ruins everything or creates something wholly new but unintended. And those people often make the same mistake over and over, thinking each time they can repair the damage they themselves did and still achieve their goal... until it finally kills them. That's what Solas is heading toward. That was the fate of Corypheus. A pattern of creation and destruction fueled by pride.

Cool.

You clearly don't understand how the DA series is structured.

It isn't a game where the big hero saves the day and the world lives happily ever after.

It is so much more complex than that, and it details the constant struggles of the world. The series does not revolve around one main character -- but many.

Each story is a pathway to the next. Your choices matter when it comes to the how, but keep in mind you are still following a story told by the developers of this game, not your own..

This dlc was fantastic and has improved not only the game but the entire Dragon Age universe. It is fascinating and compelling.

So try to think beyond being the hero.

Fatal flaw in your reasoning: Solas does not aspire to Godhood.

He may, explicitly, claim to not do this, but he plays 'god' by destroying worlds/societies and changing the very laws of physics on a whim, killing countless people because the world does not meet his expectations. He's as close to a god as you can really get, and I think he knows it. Nobody can rationalize killing so many people, even potentially the she elf he gently caressed on the bum, and not think they are somehow superior to everyone else in decision making abilities.

What I meant is the OP claims that Solas and Corypheus are too similar as villains and that Inquisition and its story feels like a dog chasing its tail. Yet there are very distinct features and aspects about Solas and Corypheus that contradict the OP's argument.

For instance, Corypheus aspires to Godhood while Solas does not. It's not so much a matter of playing God, as it is actively asserting you are one or that you wish to become one.

Also, Corypheus does NOT want to destory the world, he wants to rule it. Solas, in fact, wants to destroy the world, but not rule it.

So yeah, I'm finding these to be fatal flaws in the OP's initial argument.

OO-friggin'-L.

Let me instead say this:

Thus Spake The Donk.

"Watched on YouTube" amounts to ****-all, IMHO... I do that with Call of Duty, where it pretty much equals playing anyway.

That's been the theme of the series since Dragon Age 2: no matter how powerful and charismatic the protagonist is, s/he's facing History's inertia and you don't stop That simply by being awesome with swords/bows/fireballs.

That's why I favor the one protagonist by main installment: instead of a single "Great Man/Woman" single-handedly redefining the march of history, we can have a diverse cast of unlucky bastards who rose to the occasion and little by little nudged the world away from its fated doom.

Not everyone plays games to escape reality like you.

Bioware became successful by peddling power fantasy.

Now they struggle as their more interesting stories antagonize their original fanbase.

I've always wondered why people expect their choices throughout a game to make a gigantic impact on the ending. I've never cared about that, i care about making the choices sure, and i like to see the outcomes of those choices, which you do see all throughout the game, so in short. Yes your choices meant something and yes, replaying the game will give you a different experience, maybe not a different ending, but a very different experience.
