I recently downloaded that dlc and i found the codex of the forgotten war, in it there is mention of tall scaled creatures that killed dwarves, the codex said they used tevinteran outfit, so my first thought was that they were darkspawn, but then it was said that one chomped a dwarf with its mouth, only ogres have a mouth enough big to do that, but they are brutes not like this guys, scaled ones are supposed to be a new race then? where are they today?

We don't know.

Theories include:

1) They're the kossith, the forerunners of the Qunari. They've actually become less dragon-like through breeding, rather than more. (The snag here is that nobody mentions them having horns, and you'd think that would stand out.)

2) They're Reavers that drank waaaaaaaaay too much dragon blood. We'ver heard anecdotes of Nevarran dragon hunters growing scales, is this the next step? Could they be members of a dragon cult?

3) They're the Fex.

4) They're a sixth sapient species, distinct from the four we've seen/played as and the fifth we've only vaguely heard about.

Whatever they are, there seem to be pictures of them on the stones in the Emerald Graves.

Incidentally, the Codex does NOT say that they were wearing Tevinter armour. The relevant quote:

"In the flame's light, we saw a man's body like those of the Imperium humans, but covered in scales. It wore armour and even had a dagger hanging from its hip."

The dwarf seems to be saying that the Scaled Ones are about the same height as humans. The style of the armour and weapons is not specified.

Indeed, the writer only mentions the Imperium because at the time of writing, that was the dominant (and virtually sole) human power.

It's likely that he'd never seen a human that wasn't from the Imperium. I doubt the dwarves spent a lot of time hanging out with the Avvar.

Can't be Kossith. Kossith had horns unless the World of Thedas writer is lying (Ogres came from Kossith).

Here is an image of those illustrations:

According to the official timeline, the Avvar actually predate the formation of the Tevinter Imperium (in -1195 Ancient) by several centuries, having become a seperate culture from the Alamarri in -1815 Ancient.

The long-standing trading relationship between the dwarves of Orzammar and the Avvar came much later, having been cemented during the lifetime of Tyrdda Bright Axe. While we don't have any exact dates for her, we do know that her daughter, Morrighan'nan died in battle at -355 Ancient, which is about forty years after the beginning of the First Blight (-375 Ancient).

The codex of the Forgotten War also mentions Cadash Thaig by it's ancient name of Cad'halash. We know that this name was in use around the time of the fall of Arlathan (in -975 Ancient), but had become Cadash by a century into the First Blight, as Shale was known as Shayle of House Cadash at the time of her transformation into a Golem (between -255 Ancient and -248 Ancient).

So, with all that in mind, the Forgotten War codex can have taken place at any point up until -255 Ancient at the latest.

That it uses the ancient name for Cadash Thaig seems to suggest that the event predates the First Blight and thus remove any Avvar involvement in whatever the conflict actually was. Although this does not discount entirely that the Avvar and dwarves could have had some kind of interaction, just not an actual trading partnership at that period in time.

But I personally doubt that Avvar were involved.

(Apologies if I got any dates wrong, not sure if I own the first edition of WoT Vol 1 that does contain some timeline errors)
