I decided to post this as a separate post from my other thread about the campaign, as it requires urgent and immediate attention of those who may ever be interested in playing my module.
BACKGROUND: As some of you may know, I have spent nearly eight years putting together this module for NWN2, based upon my PnP campaign of my childhood days. It has been a labour of love, and I will continue to spend time on the campaign as and when I can, so that, hopefully, I will eventually release the second and third (final) modules in the planned series. However, I have to be realistic and also recognise that this may never happen.
STANDARDS: Part of my concern as I build, is how well the final product will work for the player. I am not talking about whether somebody necessarily enjoys it or not (although one would hope a NWN2 forum attracts like minded players), as that is a matter of taste and game preference, but whether the game at least meets minimum standards that allow the player to achieve what the module sets out to provide. This concern currently contributes towards the delay in anything I do with the build.
THE ISSUE: While this module is close to release, I still do not have the final tests done that I need to say the module will work as intended. Therefore, I cannot, with hand on heart, release the module until I am satisfied the module can at least be played from start to finish without any major incidents that would effectively "break" the game for the player.
CURRENT STATUS: To avoid the issue outlined above, I made the request for beta testers, in the hope that their feedback would give me the information I needed so that I could have a "stable" release on 1st October this year. Unfortunately, due to one reason or another (and not necessarily due to any fault of their own), the beta testers have been unable to give me the feedback I need at this moment in time, and I fear that the deadline I set will not be met.
THE REQUEST: I cannot bring myself to compromise on my own standards and release this module in its current state, without knowing it can be completed without any major incidents. Therefore, I am making a second request for BETA TESTERS to help support the work currently being done by those already trying to test. However, I need to state requirements first. (See below.)
BETA TESTING: I must stress that unless this module passes beta testing first, then it may not be released to the general public. This is why your help at beta testing really is an urgent request from me, as my hope is that the project is not indefinitely delayed simply because I (by myself) do not have the time to test it to the point I am satisfied it is ready for release. I am unable to move forward until I know that this module is ready.
It is important to recognise the following:-
1 ) You will have my full support while beta testing (playing) this module. Therefore, if you are interested in ever playing the module, this could be the best time ever to play the module, and have the direct support you need while actually playing!
2 ) Ask yourself how interested in doing this are you?
a ) FEEDBACK: Beta testing is about giving feedback to the builder every time you play through a session of the module.
b )REGULARITY: Beta testing is about playing the game regularly so that deadlines can be met.
c ) IMPARTIALITY: Beta testing is about seeing the project through to the end, whether you are enjoying the module or not. (Give feedback why you don't like it!)
3 ) Become involved! Being a beta tester is about being part of a team and project, and whose feedback affects the outcome of the final game! Your feedback is really that important to the builder!
CONCLUSION: If you have any interest in seeing this module released, then it could be you that determines if it is or not, simply because it needs your input to help determine if the module meets the requirements I have set. In other words, I hope to still eventually release the module at some time in the future, but that future time is subject to the help I get now. If there is no real interest, then I can relax about its release, whenever that may possibly be. After all, it is easier for me to continue to build with my own group of players in mind, rather than consider those outside the group if there isn't any real interest about it there ... if you see what I mean?
YOUR CHOICE: I know there are thousands of modules out there, and I know this is just one other to you.
FINALLY: If you have any interest in playing this module, this may be the last chance to request doing so, as I cannot predict the future. Believe me, I am aching to release it to the public, but I cannot bring myself to do so at this present time, simply because I need that support from you to help me double check. I do not want to release a module that somebody has to put down due to a technical issue. If they don't like it, that's a different story.
IDEAL APPLICANT: Ideally, you would be somebody who has been enthusiastic about the release of this module, and really wants to play it! You are somebody who has the time to play the module and has few other distractions at this time, and may be able to put around 20 hours (at a guess) into it, plus some time (as much as you can do so) into sending a report after each play through ... which is the information I need! If they could finish the module (with any help they may need from me with fixes if need be), before the 1st October, then that would be most welcome!
Please, if you are interested, then comment below or send me a PM. Note, however, you could be the one person who will help get this module released.
Thank you for reading,
Lance.
