To date, I think they're ridiculous, and I'm still resentful of all the railroading, personally.
Did anyone else find 2 and 3 better than the first?

I had to have a knee reconstruction so was going to be laid up for a few weeks, the local PC shop recommended ME2 so I played that first, loved it so much that I then went out and bought ME1. (The most enjoyable thing of doing it this way was that it completely changed the game play, it was like playing a totally new game).
I am glad it happend that way because if I had played ME1 first I would never have bought ME2 or ME3.
ME1 was as boring as hell having to drive around the planets in the Mako.
Cheers

If I played ME2 first, I probably wouldn't have liked ME1 because of the gameplay and probably would have rushed through the game.

I preferred ME1 gameplay over 2 because my level 60 Shepard is unstoppable.

ME3 was my first game in the trilogy. I probably played it 3 times before buying the other two. When I got to ME1 I was appalled at just how bad it was. The characters that I really liked in ME3 were totally undeveloped in ME1. In fact, all these comments about how Garrus and Tali were fan favorites and that's why they made it into ME2 were baffling. The walking codex and the cardboard "me hate red tape" cop were fan favorites? Only Kaidan and Ashely were well developed. The gameplay and game mechanics were atrocious. The mako was atrocious. The cut and paste dungeons were dismaying. The enemy AI was ridiculous. And even though everyone seems to think the story was good, I was appalled when I found out the Conduit was simply a means to do something Saren could have done before he ever attacked Eden Prime. And I could finally see why ME3 had such a nonsensical ending: Drew K just totally punted on the Reapers' motivations; instead he wanted to do a space Cthulhu story, except Cthulhu is not about defeating Cthulhu, it is about how the characters react to their inevitable annihilation, it is about Manuel, not Shepard.
ME2, OTOH, was great. In the context of the trilogy, the story suffered from not doing anything about the Reaper plot, but as a self-contained story about ending the threat from the Collectors it worked very well, though a couple more fights against Collectors seemed like it would make it more focused on that plot line rather than Shepard the family councilor. The ending was pitch perfect. The gameplay and game mechancis were a vast improvement over ME1.
The only reason I put up with ME1 is because it is needed to set up Shepard for ME2 and ME3, but I do not care for that game, except for maybe the lols of floating everyone about.

I personally loved the manner in which Cerb was portrayed in Mass Effect 2. It was a grey and complex situation that really made you put some thought into the intentions and goals of that corporation.
In Mass Effect 3 they were just ''Evil Corporation''...like, the nonsensical, stupid evil,
They were always nonsensical and stupid. ME3 was a logical extension of the repercussions of that.

Regardless, I still love Cerberus. #HumanityFirst
I always think Shadowrun and humanis policlubs when I see this not Cerberus. And I'm like don't shoot until you see the points of their ears.

For me it's ME1 followed very closely by ME3....big gap then ME2.
I fear I am forever to be the Hipster of video games, I thought AC1 was the best of the assassins creed series also. ![]()

The revelation that the whole thing was a sci-fi subplot and you're essentially off finding dragon balls put me off the whole series after the first one.
As if playing a Persian assassin in 12th century Syria wasn't awesome enough all by itself.

3 is the best game in the trilogy without question due to having the most refined core gameplay. It's too bad that it lacks the 1980s sci-fi atmosphere of the first though.

I have bits and pieces I like best out of each, but I do think that 2 and 3 have considerably better gameplay mechanics. As far as storytelling goes, I like ME2's pulp fiction style, and the way it gave individual characters a more iconic quality.

2 was my favorite out of the series actually, sure it wasn't perfect but I liked it more than 1 and 3.

ME2 was better in its intensity and combat. The companion missions in particular saved that game because the main plot sure as hell couldn't. Things that took a major hit are well known, but it's worth noting that 'streamlining' became synonymous with ME2.

Still love ME1, but the nonsensical writing, clunky gameplay and endless prefab warehouses are no match for the latter entries.

You know, I just finished the Mass Effect Trilogy last weekend for the first time, and ME1 still stands in my mind the most. I found it so encompassing and compelling as an entry into the series... who could not feel the tension rising in the final points in the game, amongst the ancient ruins of Ilos seeing the haunting statues of the Inusannon (or retconned Protheans
) realizing what was at stake with the galaxy if you could not put a stop to Saren and the Reapers... and then there was the fascinating dialogue with Vigil that will be something I could never forget... that touched me in a deep way.
The crucial dialogue with Sovereign and conflict with Wrex on Virmire stuck with me too... along with all of his awesome lines. I really loved the atmosphere Noveria and Feros had, and how distinctive they were to each other. And who cannot forget that epic finale when the CItadel is under attack, and you must choose to save the council and scale outside the elevator to reach the Council chambers to finally confront Saren?

If you have to take everything in respect, I'd say ME3 was definately the best.
I think me1 and 2 are hardly comparable since they are so different in both gameplay and type of story. But 3 was a perfect amalgam of both games and besides the final mission, it was a joy to play every single minute.

For me it's ME3 > ME1 >= ME2
While the gameplay in ME1 is really quite clunky, I still like it a lot, too. And I prefer the tinier squad in comparison to ME2's, it's just too many for my taste even though most of them are interesting. And there's too many enemies in combat, it is tedious to me personally after a while. ME3 has the perfect amount of enemies imo, and I love gameplay there the most. For me, ME3 is the most fun, has the best squad, best interactions, best music, best combat, and I even love the story and how it's been wrapped up. Yep.

ME2>ME3>ME1.
Each game brought something to the table, but ME2 is the only game that I considered absolutely amazing, between its cast, sleek style, and the introduction of TIM. I think ME1 was the best in terms of atmosphere: there was a sense of mystery to the whole world. I also liked that the combat and non-combat areas felt like they were integrated with each other. On the other hand, ME1 also had Bioware's worst set of companions in any game released, atrocious gameplay, an even worse inventory system, and planet exploration which felt absolutely pointless.
ME3 had some awesome moments, but was brought low by excessive auto dialogue and the endings. The gameplay/characters though still manage to keep it above ME1.

ME2 was killed by the level design. Combat in that game was hopelessly repetitive. Yes, ME1 reused levels, but those levels didn't comprise all of the game's combat. ME2's combat was essentially the same encounter over and over again, each telegraphed by the appearance of low cover objects.
ME1 offered combat in a much wider variety of areas and under a wider variety of circumstances.
ME3 had better levels than ME2, and had the best-written paraphrases of the series, but there were far too few decision-making events. It was a largely non-interactive story.
ME1>ME3>>>ME2

At least in ME 1 combat was over pretty fast, In ME2/3 you often find yourself sitting there waiting to get through wave 2 and 3 that you know are there only to prolong the game.
