I don't actually know where they are. The place just looks exactly like the Haven dungeon you start the game in.

 

It's a classic book end, you end where you started.

Yeah, for a moment I thought it was going to show  us sitting there in chains.

No effing way would I ever give up Skyhold, or give up on the people who built lives there.

 

Zombie-Leliana's epilogue slider mentions it as the place where she finally disappears, causing a ruckus in the process, so it's still occupied by at least some of our people.

I was hoping someone would bring that up  So yes, the Inquisition still uses Skyhold for at least some time after Trespasser.

 

Meh. They could have just reused the same map or something because it definitely looks like the same place, I'll just call it Haven until they actually announce where they moved.

It could be a reused map, but like you I'm going to assume it's Haven until proven otherwise. I don't think they would have done the whole full circle/bookends thing with the camera angles if it wasn't supposed to be the same place. You end where you started, in more ways than one.

I would guess that if you disband the Inquisition it becomes abandoned again, and if you keep the Inquisition as a peacekeeping force they continue to use it.

Skyhold will probably end up being a Chantry pilgrimage site, or something of the sort, because even if you deny it, the Chantry will try its darned best to make sure you are remembered as the Holy Herald of Andraste.

I figure it was kept.  At the VERY LEAST it would be watched and have a garrison there.  While the Inquisitor themselves might abandon it, especially Lavellan, most Inquisitors might keep it for its strategic value.  If and when Solas returns, you'd want someone there watching just in case.  Some warning.  If it is abandoned, you basically just gave it to another power:  Orlais OR Ferelden.  If no one is there, Solas could just reclaim it...though I doubt he would.  Even if he created the Veil there, undoing it at the same place may or may not be necessary.  It may be that he has no further need of it.  Why not give it to someone who could use it, especially someone he called friend...and, kinda betrayed.  If nothing else, he might have left it to them out of guilt.  

 

Though I'm FAIRLY certain that the staff will be somewhat...elf free, due to certain changes in the Inquisition...WAY to damage the job market Solas, btw...NENA anyone?

Honestly, who is going to leave Skyhold abandonded?  When have powerful organizations ever decided to abandon a well placed, well stocked fortress if it can be useful?  Someone will use it, for sure.

I figure it was kept. Why not give it to someone who could use it, especially someone he called friend...and, kinda betrayed.  If nothing else, he might have left it to them out of guilt.

Well, it was abandoned when you found it, and many other factions had abandoned it in the past. But now it will definitely be on everyone's map, so someone will want it, yes.

Despite Inquisition's existence, Skyhold is still a fortress which is pretty much placed at the border of Fereldan and Orlais, and I strongly doubt neither factions will just abandon it or even destroy it.

The Archivist in the shattered library holds the memory:  "After he held back the sky to imprison the gods, the Dread Wolf disappeared". Thus Skyhold is the place where the Veil was created.

So basically Solas used Inquisition to

(1) rectify his mistake of giving Cory the Orb

(2) activate ancient elven artifacts created by him

(3) banish a powerful demon 'Nightmare' (maybe more if you deal with Envy and Imshael) who could have spoiled his Fade plans

(4) gain more agents (Arbor Wilds)

and

remodel his fortress/home ...

Why would Lavellan leave Skyhold?
My Lavellan is not going anywhere
I did disband the Inquisition but Skyhold is still my home. I've got Solas' paintings there, a nice room, nice garden, and all the money in the vault  
I dare anyone, whether it is Ferelden or Orlais, to come and tell me that I've got to vacate the premises.

I would hope that the Divine would ensure that Skyhold stays out of everyone's hand(s) but the Inquisitor's. Both Ferelden and Orlais would at least know that Solas is a threat and using Skyhold as a base or a place to regroup would be particularly useful for a disbanded Inquisition. Not to mention, it might be better to keep people there just in case Solas decides to tear down the Veil if he returns.

 

Also since Skyhold is in the Frostback mountains, I'm not entirely sure if either Ferelden or Orlais would be able to decide which country could actually lay a claim to Skyhold given that there are Avaar in the area who don't care for either country's politics....

Having disbanded the Inquisition, I would feel very weird about staying at Skyhold especially since Solas lead me right to it. If I'm looking to either take the guy down or save him from himself, it's the last place I'd want to be if I don't want him to see me coming. We can't let it go completely but it sure has been ruined as a base of operations for Elven God hunting.

I was so tempted to say "F** all this! I'm retiring to Kirkwall B***s! Enjoy the end times!"

As a gesture of respect the Chantry, Orlais and Ferelden agree that Skyhold is the estate of the Inquisitor for life.

 

Small garrison is kept there and the extensive grounds are used to train Templars and spies.

 

My first Inquisitor would be cool with that. Next one? Not likely.

Yeah, me too. I might like to live in Ferelden with Cullen so we can see his family. And because he'd, you know, feel at home. Though my canon single Inquisitor might stay in Kirkwall indefinitely... just to use the harbour chains.

Nah, he was never one for titles.  Heck, he probably will start having YOU go to his meetings instead!
