Is the Inquisitor now suitably that underdog?

People complained that the Inquisitor had it too easy, was too OP, and wasn't as fun as playing some lowly nobody.

What better underdog can you get than someone who was played like a fiddle, elevated to great heights in their quest to save the world, only to be torn down, then have their power (political/otherworldly) and a key part of their physical ability stripped away by the same jerk who played them in the first place?

They can't even relax and enjoy their retirement because an elven douche has told them he's going to destroy the world.

Not only can they not rely on the power of the orb to stop him, they have to learn how to be better than before minus a limb.

I wasn't even thinking of playing the Inquisitor again before the ending of Tresspasser, but man quiz got royally screwed.

I never cared for playing an underdog. I want a protagonist that will actually be able to have emotional ties to the issues in Tevinter, not just someone passing by on his way to deal with a rogue elf.

I second the emotional ties thing. None of the Inquisitors are strongly linked to Tevinter - you could sorta make a case for Cadash (being involved in lyrium smuggling) or Adaar (parents might have fled the fighting or something), but that's sorta stretching it and doesn't have the same impact as someone who grew up in Tevinter... or was enslaved in Tevinter... or has been fighting Tevinter for years, etc.

I don't love my Brosca and Hawke just because they're underdogs. I love them because they have families and failures and history that's interwoven with the narrative and their stories feel more personal because of it.

I want a new protagonist.

In which ever game solas is eventually confronted (we don't know that that will happen in DA4) I'd be happy to have a dual protagonist ala Ciri/Geralt, so that the inquisitor gets to be controlled/present for the things they should be, but I'll still want a new protagonist.

For their new friendships, new experience, new journey.

By underdog, i thought of a human commoner. It's always either a noble or a circle mage. Starting as a slave in DA4, would be pretty cool in my opinion!

I'm ok with starting as a slave - as long as I can be a slave with magic, of which we know they exist - but regardless of how we start, I don't want to end up losing significant parts of myself (or my life or my magic) again. Any special ability I get in the course of the story I want to keep, damn it!

Say whatcha like y'all. I'll roleplay a Fereldan just passing by to deal with a rogue Elf.

Because f*ck the Vints! For Ferelden!

(And no, I didn't disband the Inquisition because Teagan wanted it. It was more strategically sound to me.)

More of 'relatively unknown' than underdog would be my choice.

But I would much rather see different origins for the races rather than just the collective "you are a slave."

For instance, a human could have the choice of being a human noble, mage in a circle or a slave, elf could be a mage in a circle or a slave, dwarf could be a member of a criminal organization, someone from one of the cities on a business trip, or something similar.  Qunari, well, how about being a Ben-Hassrath like Bull? Qunari are fighting the vints all the time.  You could start as someone leading an attack and winding up as a prisoner of war or something.

Regardless of how it starts, DA4 needs more class background than just a simple summary during character creation.

I wanted the Inquisitor or the Warden for DA4 but that's never going to happen, but I agree with you ^, I believe that the next protagonist will have ties with Tevinter and in the end will solve the issues of the Qunari Invasion, and then, after a parade celebrating the victory. the Inquisitor is going to show up and will recruit this new protagonist to fight against Solas too, that's what I think.

I agree, mage is my favourite class and I'd hate it if we can only play a rogue or warrior in a Tevinter centric game.

If slavery is gonna be a option id rather it be somewhat like a post origin moment. each race and for humans class start off as a different origin but at the end they end up being screwed over into being caught and sold into slavery

I think you may be onto something here, this could work very well provided they reserve the whole face the elven gods and save the world again thing for the fifth game and focus the fourth on the transformation of Tevinter, along with a more personal story for the protagonist.

Pleeeaaase no to the bolded. DC is my favorite origin and I enjoyed Cadash, but I'd like to play a non-criminal dorf PC again. Haven't had the opportunity to play a traditionalist dwarf since Origins.
