Yes it is generational; about twenty years ago you did not see gamers saying the same things about MGS1, which still had that classic Kojima quirkiness. Political correctness is really more of a trend now in gaming journalism; any 'older' gaming journalists probably have to pick up on the trend to survive.

What about Lara Croft and her breast size does count? For I know there were many comments about that with the first game's release in 1996. Here is a quote from IGN

Tomb Raider is bound to stir up lots of trouble with the feminists. Lara Croft's unrealistic proportions can only lead to further gender stereotyping and objectification of women. OK, I'll give you that, but don't forget that's a woman doing what most men couldn't. If that's not a strong woman, I don't know what is.

To me this is similar as Quiet I have heard things about her character that are good, but they made the mistake of her costume and that is something people are taking issue with.

It's not quite as dopey a scene as it looks at first. It's supposed to be a rare humanizing moment for Big Boss, or something like that.

It boggles the mind how anyone can defend that scene, and I'm not even talking about the blatant fanservice. It is even more cringeworthy than DA:O's romance scenes, and that is no small feat.

Hideo Kojima...what a genius.

True, but the last fight against the metal gear...almost perfection.

True, the metal gear, quiet and man of fire were great battles. The parasite unit fights were crap though and there were not enough real bosses.

I guess it works as somewhat artistic idea, woman dancing the rain, two persons playing around with water and so on, but it was just implemented so badly that it looks like some weird badly-made porn.

Oh? Didn't seem that way to me. When she took off her belt it seemed that way but then it didn't.

Then the romance scenes would be even more cringeworthy than they currently are.

This is some real high-brow art right here. Clearly an artist expressing his deepest emotions in the way a business like BioWare wouldn't understand. All BioWare understands is fanservice, and appealing to the lowest common denominator.

Maybe I just need context but this is ridiculous.

It begins fine with a grimy and bloodied soldier riding on an helicopter but the tone is completely destroyed when the camera pans to a woman in a bikini who is still wearing combat equipment. Maybe there is a reason she is in a bikini but it's still out of place here. The few pieces of equipment make it look ever sillier since it suggests this is her mission attire.

Then we get a few shots of the camera slowly panning over her wet, naked body. Enough said.

Afterwards, she defies the laws of physics by surviving a fall from a chopper. Even if she was invulnerable or something, 70 or so kilos falling on cement has an effect on the world around it.

And that is when things get really silly. First, she begins by stripping of what little clothing she has left. I get it they are going for childlike wonder or something but is being nearly naked really necessary when she was already in a bikini? Were those belts really constraining her?

And then comes the stripping poses. Ok, childlike wonder? Carefree enjoyment? Nope, you can't trying to set up your character as someone innocent who has never had the time to enjoy rain while having her do sexy poses. It completely clashes.

Then comes the man. No idea how he got there. Neither the helicopter nor a parachutte are anywhere to be found.

Playing in the water is cliched. And not only does it ruin the previous tone (weary soldier returning from war) and is itself ruined by the aforementioned stripper poses.

Then, what is the point of the invisibility? It lasts for two seconds and given what she was doing, she clearly has no issue with that man seeing her body. Is it because she was ashamed of being seen playing in the rain? If so, the above applies.

And where are they? What were they supposed to be doing? They were travelling on a helicopter and they area looks to be fortified and gameplay begins right after the cutscene so they are either reporting to HQ or beginning an op.

Either way, playing in the water is completely out of place here.

Does context make it better?

Asking for this it's just the same for asking to Quantin Tarantino directing a Star Wars Movies: you may like both, but you know it will not work.

You should look up the shower scene. Makes ME3's look like genius --- though it's in there as a jokey easter egg rather than as a primary romance-track scene.

I dunno, a scene like this would be amazeballs.

Vader: What does the Emperor look like?

Some guy: What?

Vader: What planet you from?!

SG: w-what?

Vader: What ain't no planet I ever heard of. They speak English on What?

SG: What?

Vader: English motherfucker, do you speak it?!

Made it more Star Wars-y by having it be while Darth Vader is force choking the guy.

yes that is much better. I was trying to think of how to Star Wars-ify it myself but couldn't structure it right in my head.

I wonder if people do know that there is usually some other parts in porn other than penetration? It's not all full on action 24/7..

And yes it looks like some badly-made artsy porn.

You said it was relevant because you thought people were being mean to the model. Nobody was. Nobody said anything about her.

No, that's me describing what we're talking about. You can describe it some other way -- say, "quirkiness" or some such --- if you prefer, but that might also cover a bunch of stuff that I haven't been talking about, and would either like or be indifferent to.

Well, that's the issue right there. I don't think that silliness always equals joy, and this is one of the times where it isn't producing any. I don't need an argument to judge that Quiet's look failed to produce joy. Neither did the IGN guys. Of course, just because I think it's stupid doesn't mean I'm making argument against you liking it. (BTW, I did get some joy out of the rain scene, but that's thanks to the Ocelot version.)

Not even close. Again, I'm with the IGN guys. That outfit's super-dumb, and kind of unfortunate, but it's not a serious problem and the game's still OK.

"You shouldn't dress like that; nobody's going to take you seriously" isn't a moral critique, or even a statement about morals. It's practical advice.

Re-opening a settled point is a strange way to try to call someone monotonous.

I'm willing to take your word for this. Maybe this stuff would have gone over better twenty years ago; I don't see any objective way to measure it.If more people are coming around to seeing silly fanservice as a bit annoying, I'm happy with that. Maybe ME:A won't have any more ass shots.

No what I said was "You said "Who gives a damn about the model? She's a model paid to do a job. (As a reminder, this makes you sound like a ******). She was not just a model, this is false, hence why I told you that she also sang that rather lovely piece, and was also the voice actress for Quiet. Credit where credit is due, to do otherwise is to be rude, you don't seem to have a concept of rudeness it's rather disturbing."

You keep alternating from calling Quiet and MGS itslef fan service, without explain what you mean. You just say "it is, therefore it is!"

I don't think you even know what silly means. Silliness has always been important in literature, it shows people getting some enjoyment out of life by rebelling against the depressing quagmire that life mostly consists of. Stupidity is something else; it is usually something illogical that winds up getting another person hurt. Silliness, if intentional, is good intentioned, and even if it is spontaneous  it is always innocent. I gave you famous literary examples that are celebrated for their silliness, P.G Wodehous' writing is rather silly. People actually used to celebrate the silliness in Metal Gear.

I've already explained this: "Any dialogue that deals with how people 'express themselves' e.g. what someone wears etc., is already dealing with morals, it becomes an 'issue' when someone tries to tell someone else how they should or should not express themselves."

Telling someone that they "should not wear that" is telling someone that they should not express themselves in that way.

The bikini itself is not 'dumb' considering what Quiet is. The IGN 'guys' have to say that the bikini itself it is dumb, otherwise all the pointyheads will come out of the woodworks to complain that IGN did not complain about it.

Well, you are constantly monotonous. It goes on and on, and will probably go on and on for years to come.

I don't think you need to apply a methodology, and actually 'measure it' unless you are trying to make an actual study of it. This era, is the most PC ever; some iteration of it is on the media every day. Universities are the worst, especially when it comes to the humanities and 'soft sciences'. Twenty to twenty five years ago students would not get away with shutting down university lectures (by blocking doorways, pulling fire alarms, constantly interrupting lectures with shouting etc) it would be considered infringing on the speakers free speech. There would not be any concessions made to political Islamic groups, like segregating men and women at their debates. And the students probably would have understood that back twenty or so years ago. Now, just look at university campuses like Queens, Duke, The University of Toronto, etc. especially if the topic pertains to Islam or something like supposed 'rape culture'. No other opinion other than a PC one can be spoken lest a frizzle haired professor sends their rather bloated personality cult, made of impressionable young students, to shut it down because they believe in the doctrine of "being inoffensive".

I'm starting to think that you don't know what porn is. It looks exactly like the intro to a porn-flick. A high quality porn-flick maybe but a porn-flick nontheless.
